Rumors on the KFFL message board under Signed UDFA has us getting Carlton Medder, OL, Florida .

Good deal. Hey Cards Czar, I certainly hit a point today where that negativity you tried calling me on before sure enough reared it's head. I got through it though, and to quote one of my favorite TV shows of all time, 'I'm feeling much better now!'

Someone needs to tell Mike Dragosavich P N.D. ST that the Cardinals are in desperate need of a good punter. If he wants to have a great shot at a starting job, Arizona is the place he should be looking at.

I agree....I would have been happy if we would of draft him in the 7th.

He signed with the Patriots. Now he must compete against Chris Hansen and Scott Player (signed last week).

Anyone else hear the rumor we signed...

Ali Highsmith? I hope so that would be a sweet UDFA. Even though there were very few "superstars" in this draft, it was loaded with quality guys who could be solid. I can't remember a draft being this deep. Also who got Mike Hart?

Here is some info.......

Ali Highsmith

Strengths: Experienced starter with versatility. Has played all three LB spots at LSU and also has experience contributing on special teams. Better suited to play in space on the weak-side in the NFL. He is a very smooth athlete. Is able to flip his hips with ease and shows very good change-of-direction skills. He's quicker than fast. Gets a deep drop in zone and can cover a lot of ground if he makes the read on time. Shows good instincts and burst when turned loose as a pass rusher. Experienced starter with good overall production at the highest collegiate level. Plays the game with passion and emotion. Fiery type of leader with an excellent motor.

Weaknesses: Lacks ideal bulk and lower-body strength. Needs to be protected to be truly effective. Bigger blockers can overwhelm him in the phone booth. He's not overly instinctive. Is late making reads on too many plays. Will get caught peeking in the backfield at times, which leads to him getting sucked up inside on outside counters and bootlegs. He will take some bad angles occasionally, which leads to him leaving his feet and attempting too many lunging arm tackles in space. He lacks good initial burst and quicker RB's will consistently separate out of breaks (perfect example is catch by No. 35 with 12:07 remaining in 2nd quarter of 2007 Mississippi State game).

Overall: Highsmith signed with Miami out of high school in 2003, but he didn't qualify academically. He enrolled at LSU in 2004 and in his first three seasons (2004-'06) appeared in 38 games (24 starts), recording 159 tackles (17 for losses), eight sacks and an interception. As a senior in 2007, he started all 14 games at weak-side linebacker and had 101 tackles (nine for losses), three sacks, two forced fumbles, eight pass breakups and a fumble recovery and 22-yard return for a touchdown. He was a first team All-America selection last season. In 2006, Highsmith suffered a left high ankle sprain and in the offseason had surgery on both ankles to remove bone spurs. Highsmith turned in one of the most disappointing performances of 333 prospects invited to the 2008 combine. While he is clearly better football player than his workout would indicate, it does raise some questions regarding Highsmith's true NFL potential. On film, he is a fluid athlete that seems best suited to play the WILL in a speed-oriented defensive scheme. However, such teams as the Bucs' and Colts have to wonder if he's fast enough to fit in. The bottom line is that Highsmith's awful workout numbers have given NFL teams reason to doubt his true speed and quick-twitch athleticism, which is worst-case-scenario for an undersized WLB prospect. And if a team wanted to move Highsmith inside to MLB, his strength and recognition skills would need to significantly improve. With all that in mind, Highsmith will be lucky to hear his name called during the first three rounds of the draft.

Anthony Morelli

QB | (6'3

Scouts Grade: 30

Strengths: A strong-armed QB with prototypical NFL size. Is tall, well-built and still has some room on his frame to bulk up if necessary. Gets very good zip on deep-out throws, can fit the ball into tight spots and can drive the ball downfield better than most college passers. Release quickness is adequate and has a good over-the-top delivery. Is a streaky passer that can get into a rhythm and pick defenses apart when protection holds up. Sells play-fakes well and seems to be most comfortable working off play-action. Flashes the ability to throw on the run and squares his shoulders up when rolling left. Is tough and can bounce back from a big hit.

Weaknesses: While improved decision making slightly during the 2007 season still puts the ball in harms way too much and needs to do a better job of taking what the defense gives him. Doesn't appear to read defenses all that well and throws into coverage too much as a result. Doesn't always go through progressions, frequently fails to look safeties off and telegraphs too many of his throws. Trusts his arm strength too much and tries to fit the ball into tight spots far too often. Holds onto the ball too long and takes too many big hits inside the pocket. Not a great athlete and top-end speed is below average. Does a poor job of avoiding pressure and is not a threat to run. Put up some of his biggest numbers against lower level of competition and is extremely in consistent. Does not take criticism well and has had some trouble dealing with the media in an appropriate manner.

Overall: In his first three seasons at Penn State (2004-'06), Morelli appeared in 24 games (13 starts, all in '06), completing 226 of 419 attempts (53.9 percent) for 2,624 yards, 12 touchdowns and nine interceptions. As a senior, he completed 234 of 402 pass attempts for 2,651 yards (58.2 percent), 19 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in 13 games. Morelli has the size and arm strength to make it in the NFL but he comes up short in just about every other category. He isn't a good athlete, there are concerns about his mental toughness and, arguably most importantly, he never came close to realizing his awesome potential as a passer while at Penn State. His marginal accuracy and poor decisions are enough to drive a coach mad at the next level. While he has some good tools to develop, we wouldn't bother with Morelli any earlier than the seventh round.

Medder and Brown have nothing under their profiles at Scouts.com.

That sucks we could use a Highsmith to go with our Hightower! Seriously though how cool would that have been if we drafted a Hooks? We could have had hooks and Hightower, but I am just as happy with Pig and Bread Truck. That kicks ass!

Non-cards related but funny if true

Rumor has it that the Chargers have signed Brady Leaf to an UDFA deal. He's going to the same team that his brother team was drafted by. Thats right he's the younger brother of world famous bust Ryan Leaf taken by the Chargers in the 1998 draft.

Per the Columbus Dispatch, FB Dionte Johnson, from Ohio State, has signed with Cardinals. He's strictly a blocking FB and i doubt he makes the team. It's probably more of a "good-will" signing because Maurice Carthon is said to have wanted him. Carthon and Dionte's dad, Pepper, were friends and teammates on the Giants back in the day.

Has Darrell Robertson signed with anyone yet? I would love for him to be brought in.

An OT from Hawaii named Hercules. Man, I hope he makes the roster just for that :D In our late rounders/UDFA, we have a Hercules, a Pig, and a Bread Truck. Awesome.

I could NOT disagree more. No, we don't have the most explosive offensive scheme, but neanderthal it is not. PSU has opened up the offense quite a bit, and rather than Paterno holding this kid back, MORONelli held back the Lion's offense.

Listen to me folks. Most of you know how big a PSU homer I am, so this is a brutally honest take. You do not want Moronelli on our team. At all. The name Moronelli might sound like a childish insult, but it is rather appropos. This kid is the penultimate example of being a perfect football player from the neck down. He has a cannon arm, decent enough mobility, and lacked the football intelligence to be even an average D-1 QB. If you hated Jake Plummer's decision making ability...well, you get the point.

Hey, he's an UDFA, so no skin off our back that the team signed him, but trust me, he will not make this team.

Stout,
I understand your passion for PSU, but NO QB out of PSU has a shot at an NFL career until they dump their QB coach (Jay Paterno). And that obviously won't happen until his Dad decides it's time to retire. I am NOT a native of this area, but my closest friends are diehard, season ticket holders, with inside connections & they would refute your take on this. My son (cardsfanmd) can attest to my contacts, and they have reiterated that to me many, many times. I'm not saying that Morelli will succeed in the NFL (he probably won't), but it's mainly because his development was ******** by the coaching staff (Jay Paterno, in particular). Why do you think that stud HS QB out of PA just decided to sign with OSU? Had Morelli gone elswhere, his game would be light years better than where it's at now. Sometimes the truth hurts.

Inside contacts are nice, but you can never tell if they have an agenda of their own. I'll never say that PSU is a great place to develop a QB, but that doesn't mean a QB doesn't have a chance there. Kerry Collins comes to mind. The problem with Morelli specifically is that he never made adjustments that are utterly basic to the position, adjustments I know had been coached. Don't stare down your receiver, don't try to force a pass because of your arm strength. He made boneheaded decisions that you could see had Paterno going crazy. No, say what you want about the Paternos and their offensive system, but IMO Moronelli's lack of development was mostly his own bad decision making.

Edit: And I know why that stud QB signed with OSU...he said it flat-out. Penn State is in the middle of nowhere.

I'm hoping one of the OL signings works out well for the team. Practice squad or whatever...depth is sorely lacking there.

So far no players for the secondary? hopefully they get some today

I'm nervous that neither Highsmith nor Pig Brown were on the above list.
