Another DE...Dykes is from West Virgina. Good player.

Well technically he plays 0 and 3 technique. Could play DE in a 3-4 or DT in a 4-3. WVU ran the hybrid 3-3-5 and he playd almost every position on the line.

One note, he wants to play the NT position but at 300lbs is too small. He thinks he can put on 20-25 pounds. He seems himself as a Vince Wolfork, Casey Hampton type. I think he is too small for that right now.

Strengths: Possesses very good height and has room on his frame to add bulk. Has experience playing NT and DE in WVU's three-man defensive front and shows some versatility. A high-motor player and shows very good stamina throughout the course of a game. Shows above-average initial quickness and flashes the ability to shoot gaps when lined up on the inside. Keeps his arms and legs moving and really works hard to fight off blocks. Shows adequate-to-good upper-body power strength. Is mobile for a DT and can be very effective on twists and stunts. Even does a decent job when asked to drop off the line on zone blitz. Seems have come into his own in terms of maturity and coaches rave about his off the field work ethic. Has played through some minor injuries but is tough and durable.

Weaknesses: Lacks ideal bulk and may need to add 10-15 pounds in the NFL, depending on scheme. He lacks good lower-body strength and plays with a bit of a narrow base. He gets neutralized too easily when teams run right at him. Comes out of his stance high and good offensive linemen will get into his pads and beat him with leverage. Doesn't show great awareness as a pass rusher or when he penetrates versus the run. Lacks ideal top-end speed, can't turn the corner when lined up at end and can be a step late getting to the quarter back as a result. Also does not provide much production as a bull rusher.

Overall: Dykes arrived at West Virginia in 2003 and redshirted his first year. In his next three seasons (2004-'06), he played in 37 games (32 starts) and recorded 98 tackles (19.5 for losses) and 10 sacks. As a senior in 2007, he started all 13 games and finished the season with 32 tackles (four for losses), three sacks, three fumble recoveries and an interception (which he returned 19 yards for a touchdown). Bottom line: Dykes is a one-gap defensive tackle prospect who plays with a great motor, has tremendous starting experience and can line up at defensive end in a 3-4 scheme. However, he has some problems holding his ground when teams run at him, he doesn't consistently collapse the pocket when lined up inside and he isn't fast enough to consistently apply pressure coming off the edge. As a result, Dykes projects as a late round pick or rookie free agent.

From CNNSI:

Thaddeus Coleman, T, Mississippi Valley State: Coleman could well be the best-kept secret at the offensive tackle position. He stands a shade under 6-8 yet has the athleticism and footwork necessary to protect the blind side. Coleman is fresh off meeting with the Minnesota Vikings and has a host of other squads who want to speak with him.

Mississippi Valley was Jerry Rices' school, no?

Another hidden gem.

WOW! from nfl.com

Highsmith was a solid three-year starter for the Tigers, and was regarded as one of the most athletic and cat-quick linebackers in the collegiate ranks. He was overshadowed by defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey the last two seasons, but coaches and players will tell you Highsmith was their Most Valuable Player. While undersized to play the position in the NFL, he can look to Tampa Bay's Derrick Brooks to get a feel for what type of success he could have, as Highsmith is generally compared to that standout All-Pro.

You guys will love this, We signed Bryan Robinson. No, not the guy from the Bengals, but the DE prospect from Wesley. So now we have two DE on the roster with the same exact name lol

I love the OL UDFA, and a few of the other UDFA guys are intriguing. I also think nabbing Highsmith might be a steal for us. He wasn't worth the risk as a draft pick, but as an UDFA why not?

In Morelli's defense, he has had to play in a neanderthal offense under a 104 yr. old coach. Had he played anywhere else, he would have been a mid-round kind of guy. I live in PSU country & I love Paterno, but the guy is killing that program.

I could NOT disagree more. No, we don't have the most explosive offensive scheme, but neanderthal it is not. PSU has opened up the offense quite a bit, and rather than Paterno holding this kid back, MORONelli held back the Lion's offense.

Listen to me folks. Most of you know how big a PSU homer I am, so this is a brutally honest take. You do not want Moronelli on our team. At all. The name Moronelli might sound like a childish insult, but it is rather appropos. This kid is the penultimate example of being a perfect football player from the neck down. He has a cannon arm, decent enough mobility, and lacked the football intelligence to be even an average D-1 QB. If you hated Jake Plummer's decision making ability...well, you get the point.

Hey, he's an UDFA, so no skin off our back that the team signed him, but trust me, he will not make this team.

Thaddeus Coleman (OT)
Height: 6'8"
Weight: 308
College: Mississippi Valley St
Conference: SWAC
Hometown: North Chicago, IL
High School: NORTH CHICAGO

The former tight end's body continued to grow rapidly after he reported to MVSU, and after his freshman season the coaching staff felt it best to shift him to the offensive line. In two seasons as a starter at left tackle, he went from a slow-footed, mediocre pass catcher into one of the most dominating offensive linemen in the small college ranks.

Coleman was a long way from home when he enrolled at Mississippi Valley State in 2003. At North Chicago High School, he earned All-State honors in football as a tight end and in basketball as a power forward. He also lettered in volleyball.

Coleman redshirted in 2003 at MVSU, appearing in six games, with three starts at tight end in 2004. He did not catch any passes, but his blocking helped in his move the following season to the offensive front wall.

In 2005, Coleman appeared in six games as a key reserve at left and right tackle, seeing most of his action vs. Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Paul Quinn College. He suffered a left knee medial collateral sprain vs. Southern University, missing two games and later re-injured his knee vs. Texas Southern, sitting out two more games.

The 2006 season brought a new coaching staff and a grand opportunity for Coleman to start. He took over left tackle duties, earning All-Southwestern Athletic Conference first-team honors, as he dominated the action in the trenches. The offense managed just 300.6 yards per game, but the left tackle produced 83 knockdowns and eight touchdown-resulting blocks.

As a senior, Coleman was one of the few bright spots on an offensive unit that featured eight freshmen or first-time starters in the lineup. The team struggled to average 260.9 yards per game, but the left tackle was again chosen to the All-SWAC first-team, as he delivered nine touchdown-resulting blocks for a unit that scored only 22 times. He led the SWAC blockers with 103 knockdowns.

Career Notes

In two full seasons as a starter at left tackle, Coleman registered 186 knock-downs, including 17 touchdown-resulting blocks and allowed just 2.5 sacks and five pressures on a total of 588 pass plays.

Who is Pig Brown?

Pig Brown is a SS from Missouri, who was having a stellar senior season until in late October he blew an Achilles and was sidelined for the year.

His game saving interception in the end zone at the end of the game versus Illinois preserved the Tigers' victory,

He was nicknamed Pig as a kid for the sloppy way he ate.

At Mizzoo he had his own Pig fan section...they wore snouts and chanted "oink, oink, oink" every time Pig made a play.

Not sure what his status is right now with regard to his rehab on the Achilles. Hopefully he will be good to go for training camp. Go Pig!
