I just hooked up my ooma this weekend. I was wondering how much my taxes would be, $3 sounds awesome. I love it so far. We changed our number in the process and haven't yet received a single telemarketer call!

You should have let me know. I think we could have both gotten $50 for me referring you. I haven't had any problems with it. I even liked the web interface with the ooma account. Its been 2 years and still going strong!

I am with Iceman. I know a bunch of ex-Dish folks who couldn't stand Dish and have been happy with DirecTV ever since the switch. I have never had any problems with my DirecTV. Even when I wasn't happy with the equipment I have gotten free upgrades. They have always taken care of us.

I am also perfectly happy with My Genie although I have heard great things about the hopper. My Genie has a ton of storage and I can record all I want. I also don't have to have full blown DVR in all of my other rooms any longer. It's been great.

Having said that.....which ever carrier is the first to offer the a la carte model in my area will get a customer for life. It's going to happen sooner or later. Both Dish, DirecTV and cable carriers having been ripping off the public for years with "packages". Just to get the stations I want I have to get a ton of stuff I will never watch.

Hopefully, that is someone like COX so I can bundle by internet and phone.

I am not sure what type of setup you have with the extra tvs with the genie, but with the Hopper, its just one DVR and little receivers called Joeys that are next to the other TVs. They all tie into the Hopper and can record and pull whatever was recorded on the Hopper through the Joeys. All HD too. I really don't have a problem with Directv. I just never liked the remote feel and the guide setup.

That is exactly how I am set up. One receiver and little boxes for each additional TV. That's exactly how mine works and all also in HD.

P.S. I hate the newest remotes from DirecTV. The old ones were better.

Pretty cool. Xfinity upgraded my speed again. I tested it 2 nights ago download was 228, upload was 14! I thought it was a mistake so I rebooted and got the same thing. I got an email from Xfinity today telling me they'd upgraded my speed.

2 years ago in this thread I had 121. It went to 180 and now 230.

At this point if I have a problem with anything online it's almost assuredly the browser or the memory it's not the connection speed.

At work we have about 9.5 up and down, what a difference.

Off topic maybe, but I've noticed that my router disappears a lot. I'll be wasting time on the internet when all of a sudden my signal will cut out. My network, NSA Remote Agent Access Point, will be gone. Most of the time it comes back after about 20 seconds, and sometimes i have to unplug the router and the modem. Not sure if its a Cox issue or a router issue, but sounds like its probably a router issue since it completely disappears. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Are you sure it's the router? Can you connect another to test? Sounds similar to an issue I was having a couple years ago. Found out it was my modem. Once I replaced it with a new Surfboard modem my dropouts stopped.

My internet speed is horrible, like 3.0 on downloads and .39 on uploads.

However, I can use the internet satisfactorily (though slow) but Windows Live Mail has literally stopped, timing out during the past week. I have to retrieve mail from my ISP which is new thing.

My question, if I can use the internet shouldn't I also receive my email? The ISP is saying it's a Windows problem but nothing has changed. Any thoughts or problems with Live Mail lately?

I believe what they are saying is that it's a Windows timeout setting but it could also be anti-virus if it has a scan email setting. You can try two things. You can try turning off the scan email option (I know not ideal) but that would tell you it's the anti-virus software.

The next thing you could try is to change your server timeout settings for your email account. Go to the Accounts tab and click on Properties. You will get a pop up window...go to Advanced tab. You will see a "Server Time Out" slider which you can adjust.

Those might help but it doesn't solve the root cause which is probably your slow connection speeds.
