For all of you who are clammoring for Derek Anderson's head-----you might want to take a step back, and draw a calming breath. I believe that you, AND COACH WHIZENHUNT will have far more to be thankful about than critical of, once Anderson's passing performance is reviewed.

First off-----Anderson was 22 of 41 attempts for the game. (53.6%) If, you consider that he was 3 of 11 in attempts to Fitzgerald, then he was actually 19 of 30 to the remaining receivers. (63.3%). Consider also that there were at least 4 passes where the receivers had two hands on the ball but dropped it and that completion rate to receivers other than Fitzgerald rises to around 80%. Now, factor in that he threw zero interceptions, and his day's work is not nearly so glaring or innacurate.

Now-----concerning FItzgerald. The fact that he was so hampered by the bad knee, caused more than concern with Anderson's efforts to connect with him. It was an exercise in futility. All but one of those 11 attempts thrown to FItz were strictly timing patterns. In other words, Anderson had to deliver the ball, (on time) to the spot where he believed Fitz should have been. Consider also that several of these were well overthrown-----but was that Anderson's fault or was it simply because Fitz, hampered as he was, could simply not get to the spot that the other receivers could, (and that he should have been), because he was only at about 75% of his ability to run and cut. Consider further, that the ONLY PASS THAT WAS NOT A TIMING PASS TO FITZGERALD, WAS THE ONE IN WHICH HE GOT OPEN IN THE CORNER OF THE END ZONE, AND ANDERSON HAD TO SCRAMBLE TO GET OPEN TO GET HIM THE BALL. The timing on this particular play had already completely broken down, therefore a scrambling Anderson found FIts alone in the corner of the endzone with a beautifully thrown pass----again THE ONLY ONE NOT A TIMING PATTERN. He simply threw the ball to where Fitz actually was, (not to where he should have been on a timing route).

Warner encountered the same problems last year, during Boldin's injury riddled attempts to play at about 80% of his ability. The results were woeful, and although Boldin attempted to man-up and play hurt, the overall effect was that it reduced the success rate of both Boldin and Warner. Only after Whiz finally benched Boldin until he was healthy, did Doucett get into the mix, and suddenly the passing game sparkled again.
Whiz would do well to remember that series of 3 or 4 games where Boldin tried to play injured, and realize that Fitz is in the same boat right now. Worse yet, by playing him yesterday, Fitz aggravated the injury, which may now prolong the real healing process. A great player, (at 75 or 80% of ability) cannot compete with a good player at 100%. That didn't work with Boldin last year, and it won't work with Fitzgerald this year. (My Opinion)

After I reviewed ALL the available information about Anderson's volume of work yesterday, I am satisfied that he is still making progress. Remember, he has VERY FEW attempts with the ones, and overall, he was not nearly so bad as it might appear on the surface. I believe Whiz will agree with this reasoning after he reviews the film. I like the pluckiness that Anderson displayed, despite the fact that he was obviously suffering from the pummelling he was taking from the Rams 'D'. Also note, that I did not feel this way when I finished watching the game. I was ranting like most of the rest of you at that time.

I believe that after further review, we have much more to be thankful for, than to be upset about concerning yesterday's game with the Rams. We are tied with Seattle for the division lead, and are a full game up on San Francisco already, something that none of us would have imagined before yesterday.

Why are so many people willing to remove the bad things that happen in a game to justify how a player is doing?

Ignore Hightower's fumbles, and he had a good game..... No he didn't. He fumbled two times and turned the ball over twice.

Lots of "IFS" and "excuses" and "Stat Manipulation" to make a guy look better then he actually did.

If that is the game we want to play then lets also point out two passes that should have been interceptions that were right in the defenders hands.

The biggest problem yesterday were the 2 turnovers in the red zone. Add 10 points to the score and things don't look nearly as bad. If, before the game, someone told me that the score would be 27-13 with Anderson going 22/41 for 300 yds and 0 ints I would have gladly taken that.

It was obvious that Fitz was struggling...how much of it was Fitz not being 100%?

DA is undefeated as a Cardinal...that is the only stat I care about.

Fitz may have been struggling some, but I didn't see much of it. I saw DA underthrow him, overthrow him, etc. How many did Fitz miss because he just dropped them?

You answered your own question Dreamcast-----Timmy fumbled, Anderson did not have a bad game-----at least not as bad as you would like to think. The facts are there. He had a better than 63% completion rate with all receivers who were at full speed. On top of that, 4 of those incompletions were drops by receivers who had two hands on the ball, wich indicates that at least those four passes were on target. How is Anderson to be faulted for that?????

His only real frustration, came with trying to hook up with FItz on timing patterns that, (because of Fitz's limitations, were impossible, (AND FRUSTRATING FOR BOTH HE AND FITZ), due to Fitz not being able to run.

Anderson did NOT turn the ball over in the red zone. I am only judging his passing performance here, not the rushing game that left much to be desired. I am only saying, that if you really look at what Anderson accomplished, (as opposed to what you would like to think he didn't accomplish), then his game yesterday was not that bad at all.

Hey, he didn't quit, ( when he easily could have because of the beating he was taking). He hung in there, and threw a Game Winning TD to Fitz. Can't you find something good in that. I'll bet Romo would have traded days with Anderson if allowed to. Any win against a division foe is much better that a loss to the same.

True enough.

We can win with him as long as he doesn't turn it over and the D plays effectively. I will take 50% and zero turnovers over a lot of other QB play in the NFL today.

I'm essentially agreeing with you. My point is that if we didn't have the turnovers in the red zone and came away with 10 more points then Anderson's day doesn't look nearly as bad.

That is something as he is only the fourth QB since 1990 to have the Cards at 1-0. Tom Tupa in 1991, Jake Plummer in 1999, Kurt Warner 2006 and 2008.

When the Cards win next week DA will join Gary Hogeboom 1989, Tom Tupa and Kurt Warner as the only Cards QBs to start 2-0 since Neil Lomax in 1985. Which would then give him a real good shot at becoming the first Cards QB to start 3-0 since Jim Hart in 1974.

Only one sentence from the OP that I agree with, the rest was rose-colored BS.

You can't dissect a performance and cut out the plays you didn't like or agree with. Anderson was erratic and streaky. He needs to play better for the Cardinals to continue to win. I know it, Anderson knows it, and I think you know it.

Wasn't it Anderson that fumbled the ball when he got sacked & it took an amazing hustle play by Breaston to stop a touchdown & get us the ball back? He also threw 2 passes that should've easily been intercepted & if we're playing anyone other than the Rams then they would've been.

The guy made a few decent throws, but overall his passes were extremely inaccurate & it took great plays by the receivers to make the catch & then get YAC. He threw behind the receivers on pretty much every quick slant. I don't know if he hit anyone in stride beyond 10yds all day long (Fitz in the end zone was his best throw & he was basically stopped when the ball got there).

We were lucky to get away with a win & if we had been playing an average or better team then we probably would've lost. AZ fans have been spoiled by Warner so it's hard to watch an inaccurate QB & of course we're going to pick him apart.

I am not blaming Fitzgerald...he is just not healthy. If he was healthy and DA missed him like that, I would blame DA for sure (that end zone throw to Fitz was perfect but Fitz was slow to get to the spot).

Hightower and Komar were ridiculous...both practically handed the game over to the Rams.

The nice thing about this game...is the character we showed to win (think about how far that has developed in 3 years). Pre-Whisenhunt...we lose this game easily.

One thing that we need to keep in mind is that we were not even close to being the only team to win sloppily this week. Teams just looked flat out bad all over the league.

Another thing that Whiz has helped change - in the 19 years in AZ before Whiz the Cardinals averaged 1.95 Road wins a season (that includes playoffs). Since he got here the average is 4 a season (again, including playoffs). Each year getting better - 2 in '07, 4 in '08, 6 last season.

As Whis said about Leinart, it is not all about stats. DA looked the part of the DA that got booed out of Ohio. The guy has fight in him and that I respect, but he just looked very very bad.

I'LL go with the fact that DA was streaky period.Cardinals fans now expect perfection all of a sudden from the quarterback position. The right offensive tackle spot needs reviewing after yesterdays game and we have the proper replacement in Bridges before the falcons game.

We need more plays for the more speedy and dangerous Howler who can and is ready for the workload for our team.He makes people look like they are standing still.

Why still so much (Hatred) for our starting Cardinals qb?I'm old but just don't get it.Our winningest coach is now being questioned because some peoples favorite player is now inactive for another team.Too much bitterness still left around thats seems to want Derrick to fail.

I'm pulling for the big kid with the streaky arm that he can become more consistant and Kudo's for taking the hits and not get credit for it.Kurt took the same kind of hits and shook them off also.Maybe faster but keep it up and you too can be a success here after being kicked to the curb as Warner also was kicked to the curb TWICE before leading the CARDINALS to the SB and NFL prominence.

Can us informed fans try to really will DA to a successfull year and career here at ARIZONA.DA was lacking Beanie, a jelled offensive line, his two rookie wr's picking up any slack when Doucet went down.Yes DA has miles to go"especially in telegraphing some throws" but he needs us to go to bat for him and for us just not to expect the same things of decades past come rushing back in as the new ERA has started here.

We can overcome Antonio Smith who has reach superstar status with the Texans along with Pace in NewYork Jets. Now Dansby is sacking for the phins and Rolle is leading the giants in tackles.Lets see Boldin dominate tonight also.Even McFadden back with the steelers had 12 tackles and played awesome.

Lets focus on who "WE" have here and who is most important to us.Why is Gabe Watson inactive coach Whiz???We need Bridges at ORT next week.DA is gonna get better with time all while taking the hits and becoming more of a leader here. The NFC WEST is up for grabs as the 9ers are paper champs and the seahawks are not as good as they showed in one season game at home.

I passed on all the offseason posting due to health but did vote in the minority 3 times on picking DA for our team. What a schedule we have this year.We are already written off by everyone.Even some of our most knowledgable own.Count me in still as a believer and I know too much positive around here is not taken well so I'll just leave it alone till next weeks GIANT game with a qb who has been looking for our team since we beat him in the playoffs. Its gonna be the first BELLWEATHER test this season on the East coast.DA led the league with 6 20 yard passes in week one.Not just looking to dink and dunk as he's taking his hits. His eye's are downfield.I like it.

I plan on being there also if health allows.Lets come together and get healthy as a team too.

So, since your counting 4 incompletions as drops, receivers at "full speed" ect to statistically manipulate DA's performance to please yourself are you also counting the dropped passes by Rams defenders as interceptions?

Word. The Saints,Packers and Patriots were the only teams that really impressed me. The seahawks, meh it was against the 9ers. The Texans looked good too.
