Yesterday Dan Wetzel on his twitter account agreed with everyone else the sanctions were coming down this week. Wetzel now says he hears they won't be this week probably next week. Says the report is "very long" and that the delay would appear to be bad news for USC.

Earlier reports had SC insiders expecting the NCAA to not bring down the hammer, at most miss one bowl game, forfeit wins the year Bush was ineligible and lose some scholarships. Wetzel's comments have people now thinking it could be worse for USC.

My understanding is the school is notified in advance of the final announcement but I know in the case of Memphis they came away from the final NCAA meeting convinced they were ok, and were stunned to be told that because they were notified in November Derrick Rose's test was being challenged, that they were accountable for deciding to play him when they knew he might not be eligible. Memphis appealed and lost.

The claim is USC has spent a LOT of money on legal fees here involving lawyers every step of the way trying to bring a "show of force" to the NCAA.

Should be interesting but if Wetzel is right we have to wait until next week.

Next week never seems to happen for USC. Mike Garrett should be a casualty and tossed out. I wonder if the Cushing incident has anything to do with the delay?

To be fair delay is only being used because the media predicted it would come out this week. Technically the normal time frame is 6-8 weeks after the meeting with the school, it's been 11 weeks which is why people started saying any day now. The NCAA has never once said we're going to announce this week so technically they haven't delayed.

I was wondering if it had anything to do with Joe McKnight, it's not clear if McKnight's use of the SUV from that wannabe marketing rep is included in the case or not because it came so late(before the Bowl game last season). My initial reaction is the NCAA may have found enough on that case to include it and then had to redo some things but that's just pure speculation on my part it could just as easily be Cushing too.

I agree that next week does seem to never come for USC, I'm sure it will eventually.

On the UCLA board I read someone asked the question earlier this week what will be the bigger disappointment the NCAA sanctions against USC, or the ending of Lost. The reality is that most UCLA fans will be disappointed no matter how bad the sanctions come out because they are expecting the death penalty.

Joe McKnight, the early out, 4th round draft choice. Somebody overpaid with that SUV.

Yeah it's one of those it'll be this week.. or next week things right now with USC.

Gregg Doyel has a big story today about how he thinks Oklahoma should get the death penalty but probably won't. He's talking about the story I mentioned before with Tiny Gallon and Willie Warren having dealings with a financial adviser who reportedly wired money to both players($3000 to Gallon).

apparently one of the coaches at OU is not only connected to the adviser, they have phone and text records of more than 60 contacts between them in the months before Warren and Gallon reportedly got caught taking money. Both players turned pro and OU fired the coach but Doyel(who apparently grew up in Oklahoma the son of OU grads) says it's just like what USC did throwing basketball under the bus hoping to save football, OU threw the coach under hoping to avoid harsher penalties.

Most USC boards seem to be expecting 2 year bowl ban and forfeited games but not a tv ban or huge scholarship losses. I have to say given how they are recruiting either the kids are being told less than 2 year bowl ban, or they're going to have a lot of verbal commits bow out when the NCAA finally makes the announcement.

Now they're saying no press conference but USC will issue "a release" after the NCAA announces.

ESPN is saying 2 year bowl ban, reduced scholarships, forfeit wins(apparently the 13-0 2004 season will be forfeited). That's all from football, I saw something on a USC site that suggested there are some penalties in basketball in addition to what USC already self penalized but it's not clear to what extent.

The general impression is the bowl ban was longer than expected, the scholarships lost was smaller than expected, but that overall the opinion seems to be USC will be hit harder than they expected to.

Will be interesting to see if any of USC's football signees ask out of their LOI's with 2 year bowl ban.

Scott Wolf is reporting the NCAA accepted USC's self sanctioning of the basketball program and they don't expect any more penalties.

Bit surprised I had heard rumblings the NCAA was looking into possible academic fraud there and I fully expected Tim Floyd to be cited for lying to the NCAA in the situation where Mayo took Lakers tickets from Carmelo. It was so clear in that story that Floyd was lying because he kept changing his story, and as we know from Dez Bryant, lying to the NCAA is a punishable offense.
