Were any of you non-plussed to hear the reports that upon his arrival in Arizona, Quentin Moses was being used as a backup to Bertrand Berry at RDE/OLB?

WTF!

Why is it the Cardinals, seemingly more than any other team, don't know what to do with new talent?

Isn't the answer with Moses simple with regard to passing downs?

"Here Quentin, you line up OPPOSITE Bertrand in a four man rush and do what you do best...rush the passer."

What player on this roster is a better edge pass rusher than Quentin Moses?

Berry is the only one...if he has recovered from training camp legs.

Is there anyone else even close?

Yet, watch...Moses will either back up Berry in game one and be used sparingly, or not at all, or, be on the inactive list, while he learns Berry's position...it's unreal.

maybe you should let the coaches look at him for more than two practices before ripping them

you act like they acquired Dwight Freeney, not a rookie who has never played a down in a real NFL game.

No, I was pretty plussed when I heard this.

But really, let's wait and see how he performs in a game before we get too worked up.

much less, a rookie who couldn't even make the roster of the team he was drafted on.

I know people accuse me of being negative, but holy cow, even I think this is over-reacting a tad bit.

Mitch you have to understand that Moses is still learning a new postion (Moses has never played standing up) it is better have him sit behind Betrand whos role is mostly rushing the passer and we should wait and see how well Moses does at doing that before we think about playing him in coverage(also Moses has never done that before etheir)..If anything the Cardinals are going to put him on 3rd down when its a passing down...Don't worry Mitch the Coach knows what hes doing

I think Mitch is just excited for the season to start.:)

As am I. I am hoping this is a year where we are complaining MUCH less during the regular season.

Moses will take time Mitch but if he is what we think he is (no pun intended) Wiz and Clancy will find a way to get him on the field sooner rather than later.

Moses was playing RDE in Oakland too behind Burgess so it's probably just that they figure he can contribute quicker there than trying to learn LDE.

Oakland didn't play 3-4 either so he's learning a whole new system in very limited time so I'm guessing they didn't want to overwhelm him.

I think if he proves he can rush the passer we'll find ways to get him on the field.

It usually takes time for a 3rd round pick who just got cut to replace a veteran and team leader.

Kind of star struck over an unproven rook, aren't you Mitch?

Moses is a 3rd rounder known to have pass rushing talent and senioritis in college, was said to have done well (for a rookie!!!!) in preseason for Oakland and who then got cut.

Now he's ours. What have we got? A 3rd round pick reputed to have pass rushing talent etc. etc. etc. - who got cut.

We don't know what aspects of our system he's picked up in just one week. We don't know whether, (both as a pass rusher and all the other things expected of him) he's better right now than Blackstock, Pace, Berry or Antonio Smith (let alone whether he will be in the future.

He's an unproven rookie with a somewhat murky past and a promising future. Long story/short story/case closed.

Let's ease him in and see what he's got, before we annoint him "the next Dwight Freeney" and turn over to him the keys to the blitz machine.

nonplussed means excited.

It may be the most mis-used word in the English language.

Actually I think its the other way around. They don't know what to do with veteran talent. I think we hold the record for guys who show great promise when they first start playing with the Cardinals and then get progressively worse until we finally release them 2-3 years later.

I hope I am wrong on Moses, but he really reminds me of a guy who came out of the University of Pittsburgh about 4 years ago named Claude Harriot. Harriot was a guy who had a good junior year (just like Moses) but then stunk up the joint as a senior (just like Moses), got drafted somewhere in the 4th round and never did a darn thing in the NFL.

I hope Moses is a diamond in the rough, but you have to wonder about a kid who can't make a team that went 2-14 last year. Also, anyone ever check the depth chart at Oakland. Outside of Derrick Burgess, they don't have a single defensive end worth anything. Tyler Brayton started 16 games last year opposite Burgess and had a grand total of zero sacks! Moses was drafted to replace Brayton, couldn't do that and the Raiders kept a guy drafted out of Ohio State in the 5th round over Moses.

I love your enthusiasm and knowledge Mitch, but I think you are jumping the gun on Moses. I hope I am wrong.

Non-plussed means bewildered, perplexed.
It's most often used as meaning calm; which is what I meant as the wrong usage.

I was always taught that the opposite is true, that the state of confusion is an agitated, excited one.

Oakland's record was what it was last year because they had one of the worst offenses I have ever seen. Their defense was GREAT. They would have been in the top 5 in the league last year if the offense was capable of anything.
