Anywhere South of the UofA Campus!! :D

I also lived there for a few years, unles you live in the Northern, Eastern or Western foothills, you are basically in poverty. Around the campus is OK. Unfortunately, the air force base brings alot of dealers, drifters, hookers and strip clubs. Also miles and miles of cheap apartments or mobile homes. There are beautiful parts of Tucson but I would not want to go back. There is no freeway system and being so close to the border, mucho illegal aliens that can't make a decent living for themselves and their families. High crime rates when I was there, the house I was living in, which was an upscale neighborhood, got broken into 3 times in one year. My wife is hispanic so don't try and throw any race card at me. ;)

OK, first look at the symbol to the right of my first line - a smiley joking face. This means it is not to be taken seriously. Second, I never used the word scum when referring to the people from South of the border who are forced into sub standard living environments when they get here because they can not get decent jobs without greencards. I personally like GWB's idea of letting those that are working here now get there green cards so they can make minimum wage and perhaps have a shot at making something of their lives. I have many friends who are here without greencards and know how they live and the hard hours they work just to get by.

There are actually some very nice parts of Guadalupe with relatively upscale homes, if you took the time to drive through the town you would see this. The Catholic Priest's house is very nice.

So anyways, most Phoenicians trash Tuscon and vice versa. I did not in any way mean to say that anyone is scum, just that there are seedy parts of Tucson and I will add that there are seedy parts of Phoenix. So lets all lighten up, have some koolaide and root for a great draft!!!

tuscon is a way better place to live than yuma. for some reason i thought mesa is the ghetto of the phoenix area. rubby you answer your own question when you said you wanted to watch cardinals football. here another place you consider if you don't mind the comute. casa grande. 30 minutes from tuscon and from phoenix. casa grande is a small town and cheaper living. 30 minutes away from cardinals games can't be all that bad.

But you have to add the time that it takes to drive to Glendale, which is like 45 miles or so away.

You get two of your criteria right there (northwest and socialist).

BTW, Phoenix is much larger, yet more diverse than Tucson. You could choose to live in Phoenix, Chandler, Gilbert, Mesa, Tempe (where I live), Apache Junction (boondocks), Peoria, Avondale, Glendale, Surprise, Anthem, Ahwatukee, Litchfield Park, Buckeye, etc.

Plus you could get Cards season tickets! Coyotes games, Suns games, ASU, etc. 1 hour and a half (or a little less if you drive fast) to Flagstaff. About 2 1/2 or so hours from the Grand Canyon. 4-5 hours to Rocky Point (great place to go to the beach and get drunk :p ), Mexico. 6 hours or so to San Diego (or Vegas). And last and certainly least, 90 minutes to Tuckson.

And Vancouver is the home of the world's very best pot

I stay there every summer. LOVE IT!

And Jeff is correct. Jersey has beautiful areas and industrial spots, just like every other state. I love that I can get to NYC in less than 2 hours, Philly in 20 minutes and DC in 2 1/2 hours. Skiing is just a few hours away and the shore is less than an hour drive. There is still a lot of farmland in South Jersey (my grandfather was a farmer) but we, too, are finding sprawl issues starting to pop up.

But back to the original topic! I agree with Nidan that you should see the Grand Canyon if you haven't yet. Took my breath away. The Petrified Forest and Crater are pretty awesome, too!

In Tuscon, there is "A" Mountain. Drive up and you can see all of Tuscon. I've only been there once, but I think the college kids party up there sometimes. There is also some plaque up there describing something or someone, but I don't remember. (It's been a long tiome since I've been out there.)

Have fun and good luck with your decision, you socialist! :D

Last time I went to Vancouver two dudes were getting busted for pot as we were getting off the plane. Strange scene - cops with cuffs at he gate - dogs in the aisles - the whole works.

Agggggg...........dude dont even consider moving to Tucson. That town is just a dump. There are some nice communities on the outskirts, but the town itself is horrible! Check out Mesa, Tempe or Chandler. Or even NW Phoenix is getting nice. But seriously not Tucson!!!

Move to the Phoenix Area....I may be biased living here my whole life, but I've never shoveled snow, had to drive on icy streets (unless I was up in flagstaff), and you never have to drive on wet roads (10 times a year).

Old town scottsdale is bar heaven as well as mill avenue in Tempe.

Most of central phoenix area is flat, but go to any of the outskirts just about and they are hilly and anything but flat. (South-Awhatukee foothills, NE-Fountain Hills, North- North Phoenix, etc)

Personally I live about 4-6 miles north of ASU (in S. Scottsdale) and about 1 mile South of Old Town Scottsdale. This is basically the center of the valley. Everywhere is about 30 minutes give or take. Fountain Hills, Saguarho lake, Glendale, Gilbert, Apache Junction, etc.

You can get a modest home in S-Central scottsdale for relatively cheap (they aren't new, but if you're only looking to stay in the valley for a few years, why buy a new home?)

Great weather, low humidity (like 15% basically year round except for the monsoon...but then its only 70%+ after it rains and cools down significantly to about 70-80, or 35-50% if it doesn't yet it's only about 95-105 then instead of 110-117)...its about 3 degrees hotter than tucson, but not always, they'll flip flop so it really isn't any hotter. Everywhere has Air conditioning, 95% of all houses do too. (pretty much only the really old ones which are in poorer part of the valley sans a few exceptions)

Like others have said tucson is 90 minutes, 5 hours from rocky point mexico, 6 to S.D, 6 to Vegas, 2 1/2 hours to flag (north) or sunrise (north east) (the two skiing resorts), LA in about 6-6 1/2 hours.

If you like hiking there's South Mountain, Cambelback mountain, Tempe/Scottsdale/Phoenix buttes..hole in the rock is cool (it intersects those cities), if in fountain hills basically just walk down the 75 ft hill streets throughout the town.

Pretty good zoo, all four sports AND arena football. Great community college system (I think there are about 6 or 7 in the area) not to mention ASU. Good park system, especially the Scottsdale one. Golfing is everywhere. Just about anywhere in the valley is 15-20 minutes from a Casino. The indian reservation just east of scottsdale has one so if you live in S. Scottsdale you are like 7 minutes away tops. Great freeway system which is getting bigger, better, and wider (most are like 4 lanes each way). Grid roads so you can find just about anywhere easily.

Food places are everywhere. I know alot of places have good food and on every corner, but man in just a one mile area around my house theres a; Mcdonalds, Wendy's, burger king, dominoes, papa johns, dunkin donuts, taco bell, sonic, whataburger, perter piper pizza, dennys, churches chicken, jack in the box, arby's, numerous sports bars of all types like irish, chicago, etc. and other smaller eateries, Los Betos and many other cheap, fast, and good mexican food places, albertsons grocery, fry's grocery, bashas grocery, with just about everything else you can think of another mile further like kfc, pizza hut, chinese food both regular and all you can eat, all you can eat pizza at Eatza Pizza, etc.

Tons of big, upscale and medium scale shopping malls. If you like strip clubs there's plenty of 'em, some dives, some nice ones. If you're the seedy type there's always Van Buren.

Phoenix has it all just about. Forgot to mention tons of Theaters, swimming pools, boys/girls clubs for the kids, waterparks like Golfland/sunsplash, Big surf, waterworld, and I think a few more. Batting cages, minuature golf, etc.

Phoenix is relatively low cost, I'd say off hand the cheapest biggest city in America. Great Sunsets, observatories if you like astronomy stuff are all over Arizona. There's plenty more than I've stated, and I'm sure there's tons I've never done in my 25 years here since birth. Just be forewarned, if you come here, you probably won't wanna leave. There are some exceptions, especially if your only experience is in a bad part of town, but most of the Phoenix area is relatively low crime and beautiful.

If on the outskirts you can see animals such as javelina, coyotes, quail, cardinals, bears, deer, bobcats, etc. Good hunting up north if you like hunting dear and such. Plenty of streams up north to fish, tons of fairly big lakes.

Phoenix is the 5th biggest city in America tied with Dallas, and Mesa is 47th, with quite a few others that have 200K and 300K and growing. We already have 3 million in Maricopa county (not counting snowbirds) and would welcome a couple more

Just been here since birth and will NEVER leave this area. :D

It would seriously take triple the money (or more) in a job offer for me to leave, and I'd move back the first opportunity I got.

For now though I'm at ASU and park right by Sun Devil Stadium five days a week.
