On the other hand, it seems like the media and fans in Orlando are tired with the mistakes the franchise has made...

FV: I understand why people got angry because of my decision. I'm sorry for all this because a lot of people don't understand why I stayed in Spain. But I've planned my future for the next four years (Vazquez recently signed a four-year contract with Akasvayu Girona).

He's staying four years??? God he'll be be like 27-28 by then... I dont understand how this happens to the Magic... how do you pass up Granger, Warrick, Gerald Green, May, etc for this guy and then ALL OF A SUDDEN he's not coming to the NBA until, oh, 2010??? URGHHH as an Orlando resident this is really irritating!

why did he enter the draft if he had made plans for the next 4 years. and he was the guy that was supposed to contribute right away. he should be band from the league.

Vasquez was entered in the draft automatically because he was 23.

George linked an article about this from Draftexpress the other day--the point they made was that European contracts are reported after expenses and taxes, while American contracts are pre-tax.

IIRC, Vasquez will net 3-4 times as much money in Spain over the next four years as he would have if he'd signed a rookie contract with Orlando.

Sucks for Orlando, but that's life. Nobody's going to care about this enough to do something about it, not until American (first-round) draftees start signing in Europe too.

LOL, wouldn't it have made sense for the Magic to, you know, talk to him about his career plans before drafting him?

I wonder if it's a case where if he had been drafted higher (4-10) or so he was going to stay, but since he dropped out of the top 10 and got a bigger contract offer, he ditched the Magic. Why couldn't we have just drafted Gerald Green, the guy can jump and grab the top of the backboard - sounds good to me. Pair him with Dwight Howard and wait a few years.

As I said in another post this may be one of the worst drafts ever. They drafted this guy (I hated the pick at the time) and traded Martynas who i think is goi8ng to be a good player and ended up with the guy the Suns drafted (his name eludes me). This all following the horrific T-Mac and Mobley trades. As a Magic fan I'm stepping closer to the edge. Next they're going to trade Dwight Howard for Keith Van Horn and Nick Van Exel.
