Vernon Davis may help the cards run game as much as any lineman we
chould get short of fegurson. He will have to be accounted for buy safties
and line backers. And with quan and fitz needing to be doubled at times this will open up running lanes. He will be a pro bowler in the next two yrs
so what if te is not a need postion.Randy Moss was not a need for the vikes when they drafted him they had chris cater and jake reed.
Larry johnson was not a need chiefs had holmes and blaylock.

Chavous and Mayock love him. Mayock says he's an "old school blocker", but Scouts Inc. and the War Room say he's not that good a blocker.

We have two TE's who've proved they can catch the ball in Edwards and Bergen. What we don't have is a devestating run blocker at the position.

Which begs the question - Is or isn't Davis the blocker Mayock says he is? If he is, he'd deserve consideration if he fell to #10. Otherwise, I'd rather zero in on a different player.

I was against taking a TE early in the draft. That was until I saw Vernon Davis at the Combine. All I have to say is WOW! Not only is this guy super athletic, but he is also a physical specimen. This dude puts the Statue of David to shame.

I wouldn't mind drafting him one bit. I have a feeling this guy is going to be something special. Talk about an amazing athlete!

4.37? Wow, ok, if that is a TRUE number, I may have to rethink drafting him at #10. I have been hard pressed to say "No" to a TE at #10, but those numbers are amazing.

He isnt even on my radar anymore becuase he most likely goes before 10 now.

What a switch that would be for teams to defend. The 2 WR's doing the underneath stuff and the TE being your deep threat. And people, yes he is a good blocker to boot. Pope is better but Davis is not to shabby either.

And Pope is just a hair under 6'8" to boot. And the best blocker out of the 3.

100 catches times 2 = 6 win season. Red zone is where it is at. A really good TE
gets single coverage somewhere and a smart QB finds the guy who is open. Vernon Davis would not become just a dump off target. I don't care if it is 40 40 30 as long as there are 35-40 TDs in that mix a la Colts.

I really hope we don't draft him, but when someone that big runs a 3.37, you can't easily ignore him.

Other Combine numbers of note -

- Bunkley pumped out more than 40 reps (suggesting that he has enough upper body strength to be a NT). He then long jumped 9-5 (suggesting he has enough upper leg strength to anchor as NT). He logged in at 306 lbs, and was very productive in Senior Bowl one-on-ones. Keep an eye on this dude. He made a lot of money today.

- I don't know what to make of Cutler. I keep hearing Mayock describe what he was doing in the drills in glowing terms, but my eyes weren't picking this up. It's hard not to fall victim to the power of suggestion, while at the same time not ignoring someone as well-respected as Mayock. One thing about Cutler. He BP'd well into the 20's - which will endear him to his O-linemen.
