Had the exact same problem, but not as many lines; I just had one big bar like you have on the right. Same age on my Samsung. Mine's a plasma, is yours?

Contemplated buying a new TV as the lines lasted off and on - more on - 2wks or so and then just disappeared. That was about a year ago and haven't come back.

Nothing is built to last anymore, not surprised after 6 years it crapped out. I came in to ask if under warranty but obviously not if it is 6 years old :(

To me, that's a great excuse to get a new and bigger tv now! Well, that's how I would play it to the wife.... :)

Mine is LCD, but thanks for the tip. I will wait a few weeks and see if the flu goes away on its own.

Have you tried checking the signal cable?

:runsandhides:

LOL!

You could work for Samsung Support. This is what they said:

Upon reviewing your profile, your unit needs to be repaired but its already out of the manufacturers warranty.

Yeah, this sucks. I paid a premium for what I thought was a premium product. :(

personally, I buy vizio, they seem to last a long time and if my $800 60" vizio dies after 4+ years, its worth the purchase.

in fact, it had issues 1 year in and I got a brand new one out of walmart under warranty for it and they told me to throw the old one out. Old one is now my movies by the pool tv as it only has a blue line through the screen, it isnt that bad.

What type of cable(s) are you using? Does the vertical lines come on with all of the connections disconnected?

Yes, I should have stated that the lines appear regardless of the input.

It started when I was streaming a game via Apple TV, so I thought it was just a problem with the feed, but it is the screen itself that is the problem.

The picture I posted was with no inputs - just with the tv turned on.

The situation has gotten worse, unfortunately. I can't even see the channel information on the screen. :(

it tough man, i know... i was close to buying a new tv when they disappeared. Only thing i'd suggest is try some compressed air. Maybe some dust got in the connection. I wondered if that happened to mine and the internal fan knocked it out since the lines just vanished one day.

Plug in your HDMI cable one at a time, and jiggle it around. Try to move the connection around slightly and see if that makes a difference. If that doesn't work, leave the TV unplugged for 30 minutes.

Sounds like a bad HDMI input.

Oh, that's a good idea. The back is still off, so I will go through and clean. The inside back of the cover has some spots that are pretty dusty, so perhaps that could be the problem. Thanks!

The problem comes before I even connect anything, though. :(

Right now, the only thing connected is the cable from the antenna, and when I turn the tv on, I can't see anything. The lines have disappeared and it's basically just a dark gray screen.

Well, if nothing is connected but the antenna and the lines go away, that points to one of the inputs being the cause even more unless I'm missing something.

Try the 30 minute trick. You'd be surprised.

Oh! Sorry. The lines don't go away when the inputs are removed. I disconnected the Apple TV (HDMI), Roku (HDMI), DVD player (component), and antenna (coax) to see if the problem would go away. It's the same issue. I thought originally that the problem was with the MLB feed via Apple TV, but after I disconnected everything, the video image problem remained. :(

It's nothing external or input connections; it's with the internal connections to the display itself. Whether that's some dust or something else is the mystery. Mine mysteriously disappeared and haven't been back.

Honestly, this sounds like something to do with the power board in the TV. I didn't have a Samsung but I had another TV that gradually went. I opened it (not a smart thing to do unless you know what to touch) and checked wires and cables for anything obvious. I found out that a ribbon connector became lose over time. When I tapped it the lines went away. I tried securing it with a zip tie but that eventually failed too. What the repair shop told me was that the circuit boards constantly flex (from heat) over years of use and sometimes cables, wires or connectors get damaged over time. I had it repaired but then something else went and it went to the great family room in the sky.
