After Week #1, I see the following vets (and draft picks) being on the Bubble. As the PS goes on we can take them off or add others:

1. Kolb (team might feel he's just too injury prone)
2. Bartel (if Kolb goes, team will sign or trade for a vet backup to JS)
3. Dray
4. Holiday
5. Walker
6. Adams
7. Jefferson
8. Sanders
9. Johnson

Should any others be put on Bubble Watch? Also, I'm not counting veteran UDFA's.

Granted KK will probably not be cut, but it's not out of the realm of possibility, that the team won't want him as a backup. After what Bethel showed on Sunday, he might take Adams' place on ST's. Mike can't play, imo, DB.

Rashad Johnson better be cut. Wow, he was bad last game.

Man -Walker looked bad on Sunday. At what point does a special teams contribution make up for total ineptness on defense?

1st preseason game so way to early to put any vet on such a list, but first indication being what they are if you aren't a primary DB starter (AW PP KR)you have been put on notice that you better pick your game up, and the Adams is to valuable as a special teams guy is getting less and less important IMO, because we drafted one of the best ST's dbs in last years draft so he needs to prove his worth on defense also.

Kolb is going nowhere. As far as I know he is still number #1 on depth chart. Jefferson has moved above Toler. IMO Toler should win the position but oine never knows.

As much as we like Money Mike, Fleming and Bethel may move him off the roster. Shame MM isn't 3" taller. He just can't cover the bigger WRs being 5'8".

AJ Jefferson should be very scared. Even Mike Adams should be concerned. There is a ton of young talent in the defensive backfield this year.

I think OLB is still worth watching in terms of veterans -- Haggans, Groves, Brandon Williams, Antonio Coleman (not sure if the last two fit into your "veteran UDFA" category). Haggans/Groves is the safe bet right now, but there's a lot of time left.

I agree.. Adams is most valuable in special teams, and guys like Bethel and Fleming may provide to fill that void. Wouldn't be surpised to see it go either way, but would much prefer to keep a guy like Bethel over Adams at this point (if it were to come down to those two).

Me too. It's not like our coverage teams were world beaters last season and they didn't look too good Sunday either.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if they went with Sanders and Bethel over Johnson. Johnson's going to have to step it up big time or I think he's gone.

Of my original nine guys, I'm removing Johnson from the list, as I think he played well in the past two games. Sanders has also played pretty well but he's competing against Bethel, who is making the team because of his ST play, and Gideon, who seems to be a RH favorite. I'm guessing he beats out Gideon, but will wait another week. QB situation is still up in the air, and I'll stick to my belief that KK won't be on the team and that will affect Bartel's status. Could we ship KK back to Andy Reid, since he needs a backup and KK seems better suited for the West Coast offense? TE's are also still up in the air and Steve Skelton's injury could determine Dray's spot. And I guess it's possible that they both make it and Heap is cut. Adams seems a definite cut and I think that Jefferson is on the bubble, though his play has improved. Personally, I'd keep Parker, but he's probably headed to the PS.

I think LSH needs to be a bit worried.

If the kickoff line was still at the 30, you absolutely keep him, no question.

With the kickoff line at the 35 all kicks are just sailing out of the end zone. Even Feely is booming touchbacks.

It's kind of crazy in pre-season where every kick return guy will run it out, even if it is 8 yards deep in the zone.

I don't like the new rule. Why even have kickoffs if it is a pointless play?

LSH isn't going anywhere. That's just crazy talk.

The kid has a role on this team as a change of pace back and as one of the best special teamers.

C'mon MCD, I'm just doing math.

Cards will keep 4 HBs based on past history.

1) Ryan Williams is a lock
2) Beanie Wells (that may be a wildcard)
3) William Powell has played his way on the team
4)??? Is it LSH or Alphonso or who?

Who fits the 4 slot? Unless Beanie can't play then LSH is most likely in.

William Powell has played against 4th stringers. He has played well agianst them but hasn't exactly garenteed a roster spot.

I like what Powell has done also but Smith hasn't done anything to lose his spot in my opinion. Provided of course they keep 4. I won't be disappointed but will be surprised if Powell makes the 53.

Not 4th string. Mostly 2nd string though some of the Raiders top defenders were mixed in. Of course I don't care who is on the field if a guy is playing well. After all even the 4th string guys were top football players in College.

Agree with you in principle BUT:

Of the 9, At least Holiday, Walker, Sanders and Jefferson - when given the opportunity have made plays. The others haven't stepped up to give the coaches a reason why they should stay. Kolb and Adams may be considered "special cases."

I think Powell may have made Smith expendible. I. also think Gay (despite his Steeler creds) may be in a bit of trouble. I'm also wondering out loud whether the coaches might be a bit frustrated with a couple of O-line vets (Ohrnberger and Snyder) - who were brought in to provide stability - drawing too many flags.

One thing to consider is that Whisenhunt values pass blockers at the RB position and Smith is the best of the bunch.
