If you watch in slow-mo the punk ass threw his elbow
Yep he probably could've avoided the whole hit. IMO Kiko clearly was getting lower as he got closer & exploded into the hit with his shoulder to Flaccos head. It was a BS cheap shot, Burfect style no doubt!!!

The thing that pissed me off is that Peion & Cowher said it was a penalty but it wasn't intentional. Hogwash!!! Alonzo should've been chunked out of the game period.

When another team's QB gets a vicious hit the lineman stick up and brawl for the guy. When CP gets hit or knocked out our lineman just sulk and wonder where did that blitz come from?
I understand that you are upset about the after effects of a legal hit on a fragile, older QB...but the two QB hits by Alec Ogletree on Palmer vs Alonso's dirty hit on Flacco, couldn't be more different.

He did not say they where dirty. He only suggested that when your QB takes a hard hit, you would think the OL would be a little disturbed regardless of the legality of the hit, and regardless of the team because he did not say Rams exclusively either (and Carson took some major hits this year, some that looked worse than the Ram one). The Olgetree hits where not dirty and you are acting a little paranoid Loyal... chill and have a few beers, your team is doing great :)

Let me ask you all something? How is it fair to the defense that a QB can break from the pocket, start running down field like a running back, and when he sees he's about to get hit, gets to go into a slide? I'm not talking scrambling escaping from a sack, runs 5 yards, and goes into a slide but like Flacco, running down field past 10-15 yards like a RB. Can a running back run for 20 yards and just go down like that?

I do not think it is fair and hate the rule because it gives a athletic scrambling QB a huge advantage, since a defender cannot line up for a proper tackle because they do not know when he might slide. Now the Alonso hit is still illegal even without the rule in my opinion. Let's say Ellington is running with the ball and tries to avoid contact (good one, right), well you can't go for his head with an elbow

It isn't fair. The problem with the Alonso hit is, as Jet pointed out, he threw his elbow at his head. I'm glad Jet posted that because I thought I was the only one who noticed that. Without that, it is a penalty and that's it IMO.

I don't see an elbow at all. I see him throwing his shoulder. All I have is the tweet from the link so if there's another angle showing the elbow I'd like to see it but from the vantage point we have, I see Alonso throwing a shoulder.

That hit wasn' dirty. They made it so dangerous for the Qb, by making him slide like that. Defenders are always on there toes whether they should go full force or to let up and let him get the first. Its football stuff happens like this.

Saw that real time replay a few times with the yellow 1st down line to gain imposed. Flacco was about 1 yard short and looked to be attempting to go for the 1st down. The clips without the digitally inserted 1st down line make the hit look unnecessary. Alonso made the play that would not get his butt chewed during film breakdown the next day. The officials, even though 3 flags were tossed imposed nothing against the O lineman who retaliated and Harbaugh's on field charge. Both were flagged and picked up.

I actually liked Suh's retaliation play ( never thought I could say that ) coming to the assistance of Alonso while he was being assaulted post play.

I have never liked that rule. QB's should be able to slide say 5 yards beyond line of scrimmage, if beyond that, they are subject to normal tackling.

Or, a version of the fair catch rule - must slide when a defender is near.

I like that. Get down within 5 yards of a D player or take what you get like any other player.

There was no deliberate elbow, shoulder or head.
Flacco is at fault because he was running full bore (and being lined up by the tacklers) and suddenly dropped, at that point Alonzo had already launched ....
if anything (when you watch it in slow motion) Alonzo is pulling his head AWAY from contact, way to late to stop the hit but he managed to keep his head out of it, had Flacco not dropped it would simply have been a very nice (if painful for Flacco) tackle....

Slow motion is similar to taking something out of context. Flacco was late going into a slide. If a QB wants to run right up to a defender before he starts his slide when he could have slid many strides before then, he almost is deserving of a hit. If he wants to squeeze every last inch out of the run, then he should be expected to take a hit like any other player does. The slo-mo replay isn't fair to the defenders who aren't thinking or playing in slo-mo.

You can best see what people are talking about at the very end of this clip:

I'm kinda leaning this way, too. It sure sucked for Flacco, but I don't think it was a deliberate late hit. The rule sucks.
