Good trade for both sides. Bradford gets his wish to go somewhere he's wanted (even if it's for injury), which has a good team, and he gets to lead them for likely the next two seasons. The Vikings needed a two year option, and they got a guy with a two year contract. I really don't think Bridgewater will be ready by the start of next season.
That's a really bad knee injury and was what, about 53 weeks from the start of next season? Too soon imo. He's going to need practice and such, and I just don't think he can get out there in 10 or so months and start practicing... nor would you likely want him to.
Having a two year plan is more prudent, and they found a perfect fit on that with Bradford.
Bradford wanted out, he got the best situation possible for him. Of course Bradford is also fairly likely to get injured himself during these next two years. Guy just has that history. But what were the Vikings going to do? 1st and a 4th to save their season, and he should throw more than 14 TD passes, though Teddy himself likely would have as well.
If he's better by the 2nd half of next season, they got a quality backup for the 2017 stretch run.
The Vikings might be better now then they were with Bridgewater. I'm no Bradford fan, and remember the stretch of 15 games where John Skelton outplayed him, but Bridgewater just wasn't putting up good numbers at all. Bridgewater is more of a game manager, and Bradford give them a higher ceiling for offensive output. Because of that they might be even more dangerous now.
They can win a Superbowl. Anyone that makes the playoffs can. This is the best team Sam has ever been on in the NFL. I wouldn't discount them yet. It'll be interesting to see how fast he picks up the offense, but Pat Shurmur is the Vikes TE coach, so perhaps he can help relate new terminology to old terminology to help him along.
The Vikes had to make this move. In the NFL next year doesn't mean anything. Next year (or 2018 as it might take Bridgewater that long to really make it back), AP might be old, other guys might be injured. Salary cap might raise it's ugly head. Who knows. Right now they have a shot at a Superbowl, and the Bridgewater injury destroyed that.
1st and a 4th is a ton to give up, but now they are back in the game, with a really good team. It sucks, but I can't fault them. It saved their season. Gives their fans something to watch. They can still win it all.
For the life of me, it's insane how much Bradford has sucked at times, and how injury prone he's been, but the guy keeps getting paid and keeps getting traded for with high picks. Guy probably craps four leaf clovers.
I wonder what EDP on youtube is going to think.
