Sounds like a good deal to me for the Chargers. Crazy that SD was only carrying two QBs, with the incomparable Charlie Whitehurst backing up Rivers.

Even more crazy that they scored 40 points this weekend. Granted San Diego has played Oakland and Tennessee, but they have put up 67 points in two games behind Rivers (and only allowed 7).

Suprised TN couldn't get at least a 5th from Oakland for him.

That's what I thought would happen. I heard Oakland was REALLY after him.

If I was Volek, I'd fire my agent. Why on earth, as a self-perceived starter, would you go from a bad situation in Tennessee to San Diego where he'll either be a) buried behind Rivers or b) lose his job to Whitehurst once he gets acclimated to the NFL. Oakland, Detroit, Cleveland, etc. all seem to be a lot better potential for a qb to get some playing time.

It's to late in the season to make a difference on those teams. Might as well go to a winning team and enjoy some success. Then when you become a free agent you are not damaged goods that got killed by a horrible team.

I suppose what suprises me the most is Volek's fall from grace.

I watched a few games that he subbed for McNair and he lit up the field with Bennett.

What happened?

Management was afriad Volek would do to good and Young would look like a wasted pick?

2 things, one supposedly Chow is not a Volek fan, thinks his arm isn't strong enough. And as already suggested, one assumes they want Vince to be their QBOF and Volek is in the way.

Another thing that I heard was Volek is doing his best Cade McNown impersonation and alienating himself from the team/management. This was before the draft. I hadn't heard anything about that up until that point so I don't know if it's damage control from the team or if they were just keeping a lid on it. I'm still in disbelief that the Titans with Fisher(USC alum) and Chow(ex USC OC) couldn't persuade the GM to take Leinart. I think they'll be regretting that one for a while.

Well if you listen to Mike Shanahan he swears he spoke to Fisher before the draft and Fisher was raving about Cutler and that helped him decide to move up for Cutler. Jay had worked out for the Titans and Fisher was apparently really impressed. I don't know the timing if that was before or after the owner decreed we're taking Young.

But it would appear that Fisher really liked Cutler, if you listen to Shanahan.

Now if you read Matt's blogs pre draft he openly talks about working out for Fisher and Chow and how Fisher raved about the workouts and how high they were on Matt and then days before the draft he found out they were going to likely take Young.

So Fisher tells Shanahan to take Cutler, and tells Matt he really likes him?

And then of course there's the rumor that Matt fired his initial agent because he was falling in the draft which doesn't jibe at all with the notion he found out only a few days before the draft he was not going 3rd.

argh who knows what happened?

One thing about Volek is that he is really small for an NFL QB only listed at 6'2and 214 and he looks smaller than that. That's Plummer's size. Carson Palmer,Matt Leinart,Vince Young,Tom Brady,BenR,Phillip Rivers and Peyton Manning are all listed at around 6'5 and 230lbs

I don't think Volek would last 3 snaps with the Cards

I heard on Sirius that Volek wouldn't help Young at trying to learn the game and that is the last thing you would want with a player like Vince.

How many years does Volek have left on his current deal?

The Titans had the perfect mentor for Young and let him go.

Speaking of the Titans. For Jetstream Green and Hook em Cards and other Texas fans: On one of the last plays of the Titans-Chargers game Vince Young completed a pass to Bo Scaife who was tackled by Quentin Jammer.

Just like practice at the forty acres.
