Here are the players that DG should hop on, IMHO:

1. WR Tom Crowder (Dallas). This guy is as good a special team's player as there is. Parcells must have really regretted letting him go...but I would switch him to safety...he's got speed, range and outstanding open field tackling ability.

2. G Scott Young (Philadelphia). Was one of the strongest players at the combine. Very surprised the Eagles left him vulnerable. Could be a starter by mid-season.

3. DT Cletidus Hunt (Green Bay). Big run stuffer, made to order for what the Cards need. Get this guy in shape and he's a steal.

4. TE Jed Weaver (New England). Talented player. Good receiver. Under-rated blocker...was a victim of NE's glut of TE talent.

5. S Arturo Freeman (Tennessee). Just what the team needs, a centerfielding ballhawk. Had 4 interceptions last year.

6. RB Lamar Gordon (Miami). Man, this guy has talent...the kind DG seems to be able to rejuvenate with certain players.

7. T Wesley Britt (San Diego). Rookie tackle from Alabama who could develop quickly.

Others to keep an eye on: DT Mario Fatafehi (Denver); G Chris Watton (Denver); RB Chris Fuamatu-Ma'afala (Jacksonville); FB Chris Hetherington (Oakland)...btw...I coached Chris in high school...he had been starting all pre-season for Oakland and played well against us...hard to believe they let him go...; RB Mike Cloud (New York Giants); DT John Parrella (St. Louis); G Wes Sims (San Diego); G Darnell Alford (St. Louis); DT Antajj Hawthorne (Oaklnad); TE Teyo Johnson (Oakland).

I like many from this list.....LaMar Gordon would be solid. Clelidus Hunt is also appealing.Jed Weaver too.

Green flat out said we are looking for a DT. I think Hunt will be the guy if we can get him. Does anyone know if he has to clear waivers? Or, does he have enough time in the league to be a free agent right away?

We could always take DT Mario Fatafehi back, former 2001 draft choice of the Cards. Maybe we could get back our 2000 3rd round choice, Darwin Walker. :) Yeah, not likely.

In an attempt to answer my own question, this will be his seventh year. I think the cutoff for skipping waivers is 6 or 8 years, but I'm not sure which one.

This guy sounds like a good pickup:

• DT Langston Moore, Cincinnati (one season): A sixth-round pick in 2004, Moore played in 15 games and started eight as a rookie, registering 41 tackles, one sack and a forced fumble. The former South Carolina star is a 303-pound plugger, solid against the run, and only 24 years old. Most important to his chances of landing elsewhere is that Moore plays a position that historically is difficult to fill, and at which depth is a scarce commodity, around the league.

Cinci is hurting for DTs this season, so I'd be leery of a guy that can't make their roster at that position.

The Browns picked up tight end Billy Miller. I wonder if the Cards were ever interested in him?

He's pretty good...when he's healthy.
