powell was good from what i saw during this preaseason.good hands ,good quickness and agility.
gaston was praised by coaches during camp and he was claimed by new england immediately.
belichick is defensive coach and i think he saw some potential on him.

My first thought is "meh, no big deal". Hope they both do good but I'm not sure that we will read many posts a couple of years from now that bemoan the decision.

Two players who wouldn't have played much or helped much this year IMO.

All 3 of those have shown the ability to play in the NFL. Alexander has been to the pro bowl.

Let's let Powell and Gaston be active on a gameday before losing any sleep over fringe NFL talent. If the Cards had really thought a lot about Gaston's ability, I doubt they would have had been looking at the likes of Sapaoga, Kelly, and every other living, breathing DT in the NFL.

This is no different than when the Cards cut LaRon Byrd and Ronald Talley.

How many preseason WR's has this board, myself included, drooled over the last 10 years in preseason only to never be heard from again?

They had 24 hours to put in a waiver so the speed at which they did it doesn't mean all that much.

As this team continues to improve...there will be many more that come and go. We'll just have to get used to seeing promising talent get cut.

alexander WAS a good back up and excellent player on special teams.
but he doesnt play well since 2012 and looks like he lost more then 1 step.

Each person can make of it what they will , but BA was up front and honest with us when he said , we will be cutting some good football players .I could jump on the Nit-Pick bandwagon and ask why cut Walt Powell when BoneHead Housler is sitting there , but after what BASK accomplished last season , I don't think I should second guess them . They have the inside view of the team , I have the view from Mississippi . I have tremendous Trust -- Loyalty -- Respect for Bruce Arians .

Not only did the pats have 24 hours but over 20 other teams had a shot and passed on him as well.

Good point Chopper. Plus, guys can sometimes flash in preseason against chumps and still not have a clue. I trust BA/Keim.

We have a pretty good roster. No one is saying that POwell and Gaston might not be good players, but the facts are that we have guys who are either more proven, have a more vital role, or are just better at what that player does. Powell is not better than any of the receivers we kept. Powell might not even be a better receiver than our starting running back. That being said, it still sucks to lose him because he has talent. Gaston looked ok, but not better than what we have seen from Dan Williams and Ta'amu. Also, with his size, Gaston was limited in where he could have a role. Sucks to lose him, but other players brought more value.

It's about more than just talent. You can't go into the season with no backup OTs just so you can carry an inactive 6th WR for the whole season. Sowell may suck, but the team is better with him as a backup OT than no backup OT in case a starter gets hurt.

Rugby, don't know if any of them were draft picks. Powell was a 'pick' and would have made the team, were it not for the play of the Brown brothers. Powell was good but they were better. That's life in the NFL. We'll know how good he is, by mid-season, when he's gotten comfortable with the Jets' offense, as they are a team with very limited WR resources.

Spot on! Instead of being frustrated with a wasted 6th rounder, we should enjoy the fact that an undrafted rookie from last year really stepped up his game and is now a serious contender to the 3rd WR Spot.
