It's really sad that racism sentiments are still flourishing in the South and other parts of the country.

I love this country and believe that each person has the opportunity to make the most of it, but unfortunately ignorant people often throw up hurdles.

Bravo Walter for your decision back then. You are certainly a classy gentleman.

i relocated to atlanta in 1997 after the first 27 years my life in long beach, ca. i am proud of the race relations here in the deep south. now dont get me wrong, there are still places that i dont feel comfortable going, but the one thing i can say is atleast down here they dont try to hide it.....now this past summer, my wife and i went back to so-cal to visit and i must say that the racism that we experienced there was disheartining...that is my home and i couldnt even enjoy showing where i grew up to her...maybe it was the fact that i am black and she is white...it is a damn shame that this stuff still exists. great article....

Great Article... the saddest thing about racism is it's taught. I am Black. From the time I was a little kid 5-6 yrs old, my best friend was a white kid named Kevin. My parents always treated Kevin very well & never made it known to me that people in our society would'nt approve of our friendship.
I think I was 13 before I realized first hand racism. On an errand to the grocery store in Stillwater Oklahoma, I was shopping for my grandmother. In the same isle as a white woman with a little girl in her shopping cart. As I approached the little girl stated "oooh look mommy"....A N*****!!! I was hurt & embarrassed. As I told the story to my grandmother she stated some people teach their children to hate!!!! Very, Very, sad.

The fact that the media is allowed to make high profile cases Public Record such as OJ, Rodney King, & now Kobe . People are now able to be judge & jury from their homes. All three cases involved black men, & either white perpetrators, or victims. Emotionally everyone is involved. Remember the out-rage from the 1st Rodney King verdict?? I was so hurt, I actually cried. On the OJ verdict, I did not rejoice because I honestly felt he was guilty. But my White friends & co workers we're out -raged. Needless to say the Kobe verdict is gonna have the same type of racial division nationally & worldwide. If you lost friends because of the OJ verdict then they we're never friends to begin with. We can only be held accountable for our own actions...

very true...they were never friends at all...but hey thats the way it goes....i sure hope that the kobe thing doesnt stir up the same mess...as far as rodney king....my goodness that hurt, but what really hurt was the way blacks destroyed the city....i understand the anger, but my goodness to tear the city up...that was awful...but i am glad most of the time, we as americans can truly get along...even if its only for three hours on a sunday.....

racism is a very hurtful thing, but again i am glad that most folks aren't like that....they miss out on so much by being so damn shallow....
