K9 - Teams don't need to hire interns to monitor what's being said on talk radio - sources like Schefter, Laconforda, KFFL etc. do it for them.

Jurecki says something off-hand in an interview and it gets picked up by all the FB gossip sites and repeated at an ever-louder and accelerated pace like a giant echo chamber.

It wouldn't shock me if anything Wolfley & others said made it into the HQ of every NFL club and that they paid some intern to present a "rumors of the day" package to club officials. Knowing what's going down is part of the job description - even if it's to explore the true motives behind disinformation.

I have no doubt that FB and the twits are monitored, especially this time of year.

If you see KFFL linking to a verbal report by Ron Wolfley, I'd love to see it.

KFFL (I'm sure) has Google Alert on all NFL teams and just syndicates what those reports are. I doubt they're monitoring talk radio.

Again, as someone who does information-management for a living, there's no chance that some intern in Jacksonville is tasked with monitoring 31 other talk radio outlets for 8-12 hours per day. The committment is too high for almost zero reward.

As evidence: the Cards for the last half-dozen years have effectively told us whom they're planning on drafting, and then did so.

I didn't notice Potter getting any extra help. What I did notice was the passes Lindley was throwing were short and quick. And sailed away to who knows where.

I'm going to do a review of a couple of Levi's late 2012 games and a couple of late 2013 games later this week or next. I know I did a tally of who's getting help early in the season in a coaching tape breakdown, and Potter was getting SIGNIFICANT help in whatever game I watched.

Thank you, looking forward to your report. Can you determine which way the line was sliding to help out which OT?

I think Lane Johnson could start immediately at either guard position and eventually get kicked out to tackle. He moves well enough that he can play in a primarily zone-blocking scheme, and physical enough that he can play in a man/pulling scheme, even at guard. This comment will piss off Rugby.

If we go safety (doubtful) or rush linebacker (possible) at #7, we could take a chance on getting Kyle Long, OL, Oregon in the second round.

If we don't take a LT in rd1 then I'd prefer we just not draft one this year.

We didn't try and slide protections to help the OT, we tended to add additional blockers, TEs and RBs.

Thanks - So now get to work watching some film. :D

Sorry, brother. I got a 76 page PPM I've got to redline. It won't be until tomorrow afternoon at the earliest.

In the meantime, wander over to FootballOutsiders and check out Ben Muth on Ryan Clady PWN1NG a Cleveland DE.

Chance Warmack, all day every day. The gap between Warmack and our (extremely overpaid and will soon to be cut) guards is much larger than that of Lane Johnson and Levi Brown. I think Brown will be a much better LT with the subtraction of Russ Grimm alone. Lane Johnson barely cracked his way into the first round when Taylor Lewan and Jake Matthews elected to stay in school. Then his stock blew up because of the stupid combine.

Warmack was a top 10 talent from the beginning. Who cares if he's a guard.

I don't think he's physical enough to handle guard yet. He would be great at pulling though. Are we going to a primary zone blocking scheme? I haven't heard that is what we're transitioning to. I know they want to run better and be able to pound it better.

Menelick Watson in the 2nd could be intruiging as well. A little high for him and Long at 38 though. Pugh is getting more love from the pundits right now as both T/G.

Chance Warmack is 21 years old, twenty-one! Did he start school a year early when he was a kid or something?

I think they love him. BA is calling him elite I think, because he says there are elite Ol men and DL men available.

That would refer to Joekel, Fisher and Warmack presently and Lane Johnson possibly in the near future.

They'll have a nice tandem to choose from at #7.

Elite DL men would probably be refering to Lutuelei and Shariff Floyd, imo.

They could surprise there, but mtl the bigger surprise may be going after one in the 2nd - because it's a deep draft for DL man. Purdue's Kawann Short and NC's Sylvester Williams can play both inside and outside and be disruptive in the down pass rush. Alabama's Jesse Williams would stricktly be a DT, mtl but is also pretty disruptive in the down pass game. Very gifted athletically and strong as a bull!

With ILB Darryl Washington suspended four games to start out the season, it wouldn't shock me if they took another down DL man in the 2nd Rd.

From BA's comments, I know that they would like to pull a decent one out of this draft. They'll have that oportunity.

I watched Potter vs Detroit and Batiste vs SF and Levi Brown in 2011 and there was no sliding of the line or help except on rare occasions. The LT was blocking one on one with the outside rusher on almost every pass play.

The notion that Potter got extra help compared to Brown in 2011 appears to be a message board myth. Again, as I suspected from Lindley's low yards per completion, the Cards adjustment was not in extra protection but in throwing shorter passes.

Unless I'm not seeing things right, which is entirely possible, there will be no moving Levi Brown to RT or Massie to G. Robert Massie is the real deal at RT.

That's a pretty big assumption seeing as he hasn't played in the down technique very often. We don't know if he can straight ahead block out of the 3 point stance much less pull. I think he's a good enough athlete to be a quick study though.

Lane Johnson could turn out to be an elite player a few years down the road. Alot of us, myself included, are thinking how the draft will affect next year's team and Warmack has the biggest impact, OL-wise.

There's no doubt a LT has more impact than OG but Warmack is also has a high ceiling and is a much more finished product. I'm starting to warm to long term play of Johnson as the Cards pick but Warmack is likely to a multiple pro bowl player and probably fills a more immediate need.

I say all that about Warmack and Cooper may be better fit for the Cards scheme-wise .

IMO Warmack and Massie lock down 2 of the 5 OL spots for cheap over the next 3 years and then allows Levi Brown and Senio Kelemete to possibly lock down 2 others. Lane Johnson seems more of a gamble that should pan out and I'm not sure how much he improves the physicality of our middle 3 in the next two years. Personally, I prefer Warmack, but I do understand the reasoning behind using a top 10 pick on a LT over a OG.

Well, in my mind it is Chance Warmack.

Why? Well, we want to win now, and in my opinion by choosing Chance Warmack you significantly improve your guard position.

What I am getting at is, in my opinion, you are improving your team more by replacing Adam Snyder, or Daryn Colledge with Chance Warmack, than you are by replacing Levi Brown or Bobby Massie with Lane Johnson.

And no, I 100% guarantee that Eric Fischer is not there at #7 and that Luke Joeckel will be long gone.

So, the question is, Lane Johnson or Chance Warmack, who improves the team move by putting them in the current line up ?

I know my answer, what is your.

For many weeks it was Eric Fisher who we would draft. Now many have moved to the Warmack bandwagon. Personally, I do not have a clue as to which is better or if we take either one if available. At one time Mitch posted what a good pass rusher would do for us. Regardless of who we draft our success will depend on whoever is our QB and how he performs. Palmer is 33 so I think it would be in the Cards interest to draft a QB in the first 4 rounds. In fact we should draft a QB each year for the foreseeable future until we find a good one. We will never overtake Seattle and SF until we have a good QB and they have QB's who are young and will be there for many years to come. I am not saying draft one with your first pick but you are not going to get a great one in free agency. I sort of think with Palmer we might win 7-8 games which will not put us in a prime time drafting position. We are going to have to get lucky on finding a good QB in the draft but you are not going to get one unless you draft one. Get out there in the arena and out of the stands.

Does Warmack's size concern anyone?

Look how small he looks here:
http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-combine/0ap2000000140217/Warmack-and-Bernard-prepare-for-draft

Also, he measured a lot shorter than expected and has relatively small hands (9 5/8).

I don't know if it should be a concern or not. I kinda would like to see him put some of that weight back on though. Maybe he lost a bunch just to be quicker in drills but doesn't plan on playing at that weight.

It would be a concern if he was a tackle, but being that he is a guard I'm not worried at all.

I could be reading too far into this statement, but BA has said that he likes to just throw his young guys into the fire and play them immediately. So if a guy isn't ready to start at the position that he is being drafted for in year 1 than don't expect him to be drafted with that #7 pick. My point is that unless the Cards believe Lane Johnson is ready to start immediately at LT than I don't at all expect them to use #7 on him. Warmack on the other hand will very likely be ready to start at G from day 1 and to me that fits what they are looking for the most.

Thanks - So now get to work watching some film. :D

So... I've been watching tape of the Week 17 2011 tape vs. Seattle just for offensive line play, and mostly looking at Levi Brown. What I noticed:

- The offensive line pass pro scheme seems to be largely man-blocking: guys are assigned to block the guy in front of them. What this leads to is a HUGE problem when teams run defensive stunts or blitz linebackers or cornerbacks. Scheme dictates that Levi block the DE, but he's engaged with the DE (who's pushing inside toward the guard), and can't disengage quickly enough to catch the blitzing linebacker off the edge.
- Levi's perfectly adept can catching and stopping a single rush end who is primarily making power moves. Either he or the scheme had a problem picking up stunts and additional blitzers.
- Rex Hadnot was hot garbage in every aspect of play.
- Brandon Keith was perfectly capable of run-blocking. I didn't really key on him in pass pro, but I assure you that Rex Hadnot did him no favors.
- Lyle Sendlein is pretty solid working down the line when pulling.
- I really didn't see any deficiency in Daryn Colledge's play. He wasn't outstanding, but he was perfectly solid.

First of all thank you!!!!

IIRC Grim believed in the KISS principle which is fine for some things but obviously not pass protection schemes in the NFL.

I don't watch the oline play enough during the game but my general impression was what you have expressed. Sendlein and College aren't hot garbage, actually they are solid starters. Now improve the scheme and coaching and talent around them and we should have a working Oline. Massie looks good and Levi coming back is some help.

Snyder did play with a triceps (IIRC) injury last year so maybe he isn't gawd awful.

Now I don't know that any of the interior Oline are actually earning their current salaries so I definitely want us to draft an OG in the first 3 rds.

I do also want an OT taken as Levi is coming off injury and while Potter showed promise and didn't SUCK like Batiste I'm not sold on him being the answer.

I don't think College is terrible, but he certainly isn't worth the 7.275M that he costs against the cap both this year and next. So if we draft a guard in the first 2 rounds I would really hope that we go ahead and cut College to get that number off the books in the 2014 season.
