Warner helping Rodgers to prepare?

Interesting item in Mike Sando's blog from last night. It's OK by me, I'm not really a Steelers fan, especially after Tomlin's dissing us two years ago.

"Kurt Warner has been a great friend really since I was drafted," Rodgers told reporters, "and so I reached out to him about any advice he can give me this week, and the next week -- it's readily appreciated. I'm sure there will be more conversations with him."

Warner completed 72 percent of his passes for 377 yards and three touchdowns against Pittsburgh in the Super Bowl two years ago. The Steelers won even though Warner's 64-yard touchdown pass to Larry Fitzgerald put Arizona in the lead with 2:37 remaining.

I once saw Hubie Brown give a talk at a basketball clinic---he was and still is the best clinician I ever saw, at any sport.

He said that his first pro gig was an assistant coach's job with the Bucks, and they had him in charge of their big men (and if you've ever seen Brown's clinic on post play---it's unbelievable---covers every detail of the fundamentals---footwork especially).

He said, "So there I was coaching in my first NBA practice and who am I coaching? A guy then named Lew Alcindor---whom you might know today as Kareem Abdul Jabbar. And I thought to myself, Alcindor must be laughing inside at the prospects of being coached by this scawny looking 6'2" novice."

"But, what I learned that day is...the great ones always listen."

"Alcindor could not have been more eager to learn, nor more focused on the drills."

Fast forward to Aaron Rodgers...think of how smart it is to listen to Kurt Warner.

The Cardinals got to a Super Bowl because they listened to Kurt Warner---who told them exactly how to prepare.

And knowing Warner, the gameplan for the Steelers two years ago is still as fresh in his mind as any gameplan he ever conceived.

I am sure they will be chuckling over Rodgers' successful tripping up of Brian Urlacher on what could have been as devestating a pick six as James Harrisons' was versus Warner (who no doubt will get some ribbing from Rodgers on Warner's forgettable attempt at making the tackle on Harrison).

Yup...the zone blitz schemes...that will be one of the main topics.

And like Hubie Brown said, "The great ones always listen."

Ironically in both SB losses, the Warner-led offenses rallied to tie or go ahead of their opponents, only to have the defenses fail to hold in the final minutes.

Rodgers seems every bit as hard on his teammates as Warner was. During the Bears game, Aikman inferred as much. Amazing to think that so many teams passed on Rodgers and he fell all the way to what 22.

Yup... he could easily be 3 & 0 in Super Bowls... can't say that about Hall of Famers like Jim Kelly...
