I think he has past he point of no return. How can you come back now and say that you are devoted to this team? A true Cardinal would not go visit other teams or even threaten it. I love the way he plays but he doesnt care what happens to this team, only concerned about getting as much $ as possible. I say let him go and get what he can elsewhere.
GOOD LUCK KURT! DONT LET THE DOOR HIT YOU IN THE ARSE!

I hear you! I don't completely agree, but I understand where you are coming from. I think our best chance at getting back to the Super Bowl is through Kurt Warner, but this is starting to rub people the other way(including myself). I'm a Cardinals fan either way, but I'd much rather have Kurt Warner at QB this year.

What the hell are you talking about?

He has publically said that he would like to remain here, that he would be willing to take less money if Q were to stay here. Why? Because it would help us WIN!

My goodness, im a little upset that we havent signed Warner yet, but you dont have to turn on him because of Graves' incompetency.

The cardinals pull him from near extinction, he signs because he is so glad somebody wants him, gets an opportunity to challenge for starting spot. Is given the nod to call plays, and run the kind of offense he wants. Everyone in AZ now loves him and his family settles down here. We get to the Super Bowl with him, notice I didnt say he took us to the SB, remember the awesome defensive performance during the playoff run. Yes thats right everyone seems to forget about that! If it wasnt for the D we would never have made it and KW wouldnt be looked at as a savior.
Now the FO immediately offers him 8 mil x 2 years, then quickly ups it to 10 mil x 2 years. And to thank the Cardinals for all they've done for him and his family, he acts like we've insulted him and runs off to talk with other teams.
Ive faithfully followed this team for 35 years, thru the ups and downs.
KW can kiss my *ss.

It is a bit sad to see him selling what appears to be his soul for a little extra coin.

But ultimately if we used that standard for every player on every team, you'd end up with a basketball sized roster with a short bench because you just did a 4-1 trade.

I don't understand you guys. If I could move my family to another nice city like San Francisco while making an additional 4 million, why wouldn't I? Remember this is Kurt's livelihood. He earned this. It is his right.

How loyal were the Cards when Warner outplayed Leinart the last few seasons, but Leinart was repeatedly named starting QB? Not very... Kurt doesn't owe us ****. We owe Kurt. Hate to say it. Love the Cardinals, but I am not going to cry because someone wants to be paid their worth.

If I started killing it at work and could get a job elsewhere that pays better that is a similar role, I'd do it in a second... Ask yourself, would you?

The Cardinals don't owe Kurt Warner squat. Who else would have given him the chances he's had here after his struggles with the Rams and Giants?

No, I work for an awesome Fire dept. that has been great to me and my wife and kids love it here. They have friends and are happy. if they offered to give me a 500% raise because I have done such a great job, I certainly wouldnt go looking for something better.

remember the awesome defensive performance during the playoff run.
Awesome is relative and after watching one of the poorer defenses during the year, the playoff run looked pretty awesome. Giving up 22.2 ppg was certainly better than the 26.7 during the regular season but "awesome"? The Bengals defense gave up 22.8 during the regular season if that's any kind of a gauge.

They gave up 316 yards per game in the playoffs compared to 331 during the regular season.

The gave up 44% 3rd down conversions during the year and 41% in the playoffs.

The got just enough better to win games but let's not forget the Steelers' final drive and let's not say "awesome".

Well personally I wouldn't. Money isn't everything. Money doesn't make me happy. So therefore If I had made tens of millions so far, and had a deal on the table to stay home for at least another 20 million, it's a no brainer.

Of course lots of people say hey 4 million is a lot. It's selective thinking. He's thinking of that 4 million like he's broke. He isn't, and it won't have any bearing on his life. Whatever contract he signs, he'll be able to live in whatever house he wants, eat whatever he wants, drive whatever he wants, wears whatever he wants, send his kids to whatever college they get accepted to, etc, etc.

At the end of the day it's just more numbers in a bank account. When he's dead it won't matter.

But looking back over the next 40 years of his probable life, he can think we'll I have all this money I don't need, but it sure might have been nice to get another ring, to have spread the joy to all the cardinal fans that he knows have been waiting a long time, etc. That extra 4 million might be the difference from getting a victory. The intrinsic value of another ring over the course of 40 years will mean a lot more than numbers in the bank.

Sure he has the right to try to get it. But just because he maybe can, doesn't mean he should.

If we want to talk about paying people their worth, it should start with minimum wage earners. They have much more gripe than Warner.

I want to re-sign warner and willing to go higher than most on this board to get it done. But the reasoning behind why he NEEDS it, escapes me, and I don't go around talking about Jesus.

If you were one of the three best at your job and it took a 500% raise just to get you in the top 1/4 of the salary range would you care?

If you had 1, maybe 2 years left at that job would you want as much as possible or take the first offer?

Remember those playoff teams, 2nd best rushing attack, 3rd best rushing attack, yes it is relative. The cardinals defense held some of the best teams in the league on their way to the SB. You may not be... but I was pretty damn proud of em. YES, I say awesome performance.

Folks we're talking about millions of dollars. It's a different scale.

Meanwhile, as a 40 year old after a 2 year contract, he has plenty of workable years left.

I swear it's like every athlete feels like if he doesn't have an obscene amount of money he will be screwed the rest of his life.

What does that say about us then? I guess we're all screwed.

Overall we're using a middle class mindset to tackle a rich man's potential problems. I'm sure he'd be fine if he retired.

You can't plan 100 years out. When speaking of generational wealth, it isn't how much a person starts out with, it's what they do with it that determines whether or not their offspring are taken care of. It also only take 1 descendant to screw it up. That can happen if you pay warner 10 million or 1 billion a season.

This game is becoming strictly a business. And I think it takes the pride out of it for me. I am very passionate about the Cardinals. But I feel like these overpaid players are killing that feeling slowly. Anybody that has talent can put on a cardinals uniform, even if they really dont even like the team. The NFL is becoming a cold business.
I guess Im just rooting for the uniform now, not the player.

The NFL is a business first and foremost and the loyalty he must show is the same loyalty you would show if your company laid you off. Therefore there are no "true" Cardinals on this team. Free agency has ruined loyalty, as have the salaries of players. I do not fault Kurt in the least because I would try to get everything I could for my family

Thats just great. I feel so much better now!
By the way the Cardinals didnt lay him off. They actually offered him a big raise and he then quit.

I'm not correlating Kurt to being laid off, I was merely stating that it's business, you move on.... there is no loyalty. There is no expectation of special feelings like you owe a former employer anything regarless of monitary offerings or anything of the sort. People are allowed to be in control of their lives. I happen to be in the camp that feels Kurt should probably move on, as should the Cardinals

He didn't quit he just hasn't signed up again. Leading this team to the Super Bowl is far from quitting.

Great point, the onset of free agency changed the whole NFL. The only good thing about free agency (if parity is a good thing) is that now at the beginning of a season every team as a chance of having a season like we had last year. The only loyalty is that of the true fan to the team he or she follows.

What's so surpising about not being a true Cardinal? He came into the league with the Rams. I don't begrudge him for looking around. He has that right. Like it's been said a million times, if somebody wants to pay him 30 million, let them.

Really good posts.

The only "true Cardinals" are the ones reading and/or writing their thoughts on this board -the fans. We are the ones that really care about this, and it is obvious from looking at the emotional ebb and flow here. Mitch is a primary example. I can just feel the emotional swings. Why? Because he cares.

That's not a shot against the players, because they have to take care of themselves, and their families. I cannot begrudge them for that.

Take er easy, everyone. I, for one, do not want to see Kurt leave. I used to be a plan for the future type -ie let's go with Matt - he's the QBOF. Well, I know we have a good football team with Kurt at the helm, and I'm really only concerned with this upcoming season.
