Palmer for a 3rd is marginally more appealing to me than Kolb for a 2nd. Palmer also has a huge contract, but the length is shorter. We'll still need to look for a qb of the future, but the cost is less. For those who watched him a lot, Palmer's play last year was pretty frightening, even considering the two stooges.

Really? he wasn't great but 3970 yards passing, 26 TD's to 20 picks, 61.8%, 82.4 passer rating, only sacked 26 times in nearly 600 pass attempts.

Not great but he did that on a team he hated playing for with 2 Wr's arguing over the ball and not running the routes they were supposed to.

Put him on our team last year and we walk away with our division.

Palmer is coming off a below average season, has publicly stated he would retire before playing another down in Cincy, and the Bengals are about to give some nice $$ to their QBOF with the red hair.

Beanie + a 3rd round pick? No way. If Graves can't negotiate a better deal than that he's the one that should retire.

Below Average really 82.4 QB rating, 26 TD(7th) 3970 Yds(6th). Yeah he had 20 Int's, but he had no ground game and two prima dona WR who didn't run very good routes. That's a below average year!!! Sign me up

Fair enough, below average may have a bit harsh - but every time I watched the Bengals he was throwing a pick at a crucial time. I guess after last season I would take the Knight from Monty Python ("It's only a flesh wound!") to play QB, so yes Palmer would be a major upgrade. That being said I still don't won't to overpay in the trade and take on a huge cap hit at the same time.

I AGREE!!!!!

If we can score Palmer, back to the playoffs we go.

This is my (now not so) secret hope in how we address the QB situation.

This is a trade that makes some sense for both teams. Palmer is a savvy veteran who can be a bridge and, as Kurt said, fits Whis' system best. Beanie gets a chance to resurrect his career in Ohio. There is some real doubt about whether the Bengals can re-sign Cedric Benson.

The Cardinals might have to throw in a 2012 third or fourth-rounder, which I'd be a lot more willing to do than coughing up a second for an unproven Kevin Kolb. Carson led the Bengals to the NFC North division title two years ago. There is no defense in the NFC West comparable to the Ravens and Steelers.

I suspect Marvin Lewis would do the deal with no problem; Mr Brown, not so much.

Believe it or not we are the ones that are desperate. The Bengals have all the leverage.

A 3rd and a RB which is just about the easiest position on the field to replace for a 3 to 5 year fix with a franchise QB is hardly over paying. It just isn't.

So is a 1st for Kolb ok??? I mean he hasn't done squat. Kolb is "Potential" Palmer is "Proven". That's like Intangible vs Tangible which is why we started Max Hall for six games, why we started Anderson, cut Leinhart, and why it took us forever to get Skelton behind center. Screw Potential I'll take proven everyday. Palmer is durable, and only has two starting season with less that 20 TD and an 86 career QB ratings, he is our starter for 5 years and his contract is not bad compared to what we could be paying another QB. He makes every throw and if we sign him Sam Bradford isn't the best QB in our division anymore.

If we get Palmer or Kolb I think we will be one of the hot teams 2011-12. Seriously, these guys are way ahead of the other options IMO, they can both bring their talents for the now and down the road. I think it will be harder to land Palmer from crazy-town, but I would be very optimistic with the Palmer/Whiz mix.

This ultimatum has been out for months, hasn't it?

It was after the season was over. But so was Kurt's comment about Bulger. I'm pretty sure it was before the ultimatum.

OK, we just disagree. Palmer has enough money to retire, as he has indicated. Palmer also told Peter King in the summer of '09 that someone would die on the field from one of these violent collisions. I'm guessing he's not bluffing about retiring.

The Bengals can either get something for Palmer, or let him retire out of spite and get nothing in return.

We are desperate, but Hasselback, McNabb, or even Bulger would buy us another year.

Probably true, but having the Red Zone channel, and watching lots of Carson in important situations (as their games were almost always early ones) he made a ton of mistakes at the most inopportune times, decisions that just had you shaking your head, and not expecting from a veteran.

That being said, I'd take a flyer on him, but am also wary because of what I saw last year.

Palmer in the Huddle (poor guy)

P is Palmer...

P "Listen up, were running 23 blue running it off the left tackle."

Chad " Chad's wide open every play, I'm thinking of changing my name to Wide Open."

TO "Remember when I ate the popcorn, I was cool."

P " Come on guys, get your head in the game."

TO (crying) "That's my quarterback."

Chad "Hey...you guys can now follow my new twiiter account @WideOpenIsWideOpen."

P "Lets just go get this over with."

Oh he made some astoundingly bad decisions last year but I really felt he was a guy who had just reached his limit with that team and it showed at times on the field.

I forget where I got it but during the season I was saying we should look at Palmer and I posted something that said one of the coaches saying Palmer had thrown at least 5(?) picks that season that were the direct result of the Wr running the wrong route and Palmer throwing the ball to where the WR should have been but wasn't.

One of the blowups on the sideline with TO was him screaming I was open and Palmer saying you ran the wrong route, you weren't where you were supposed to be by the time I saw you, it was too late.

But I do agree he had some really bad decisions last year late in games.

:lmao::bang::deadhorse2: Poor Carson, also love your quote at the end, definately describes the Cardinals, we can't seem to get out of our own way sometimes.

I agree, I think you can explain away some of his mistakes last year. He certainly is a risk, but unfortunately we're in a position where we have to take risks. I like taking the risk of Palmer for a 3rd, who has actually proven himself as an NFL qb, over the risk of Kolb for a 1st.

Palmer is a wildcard.

I like the idea somewhat but as others have mentioned he has as of late, IMO, tended to make mistakes at crucial times.

This could all fix itself with a simple change of teams and change of attitude that comes with that or .... or it could just move with him and become our problem, ....... not that it could be worse than last year, that's hard to imagine but we aren't I hope shooting for just better than last year because that's a very low bar.

I think Palmer will be more at home and a better player in either AZ or Seattle. I personally want him or Kolb. Just not for first round picks.

I love Beanie, and think his potential is going to be realize soon, but the reality of it is Palmer would be an instant, and much, much bigger improvement to the team. And it makes sense to be "nice" to Beanie and send him to his home state if we are going to be forced to trade him to solve the QB problem. I would make the move any day of the week.

Kirwan is an idiot. No way they get that much with his injury concerns and age to boot.
Really, umm he had one season lost to injury and has started every game the following two seasons so injury isn't an issue. Age??? he's 31 years old, that is prime for a QB, he will be very good for the next 5 years and is the type of QB you build a franchise around. Every Bengal fan I know is very unhappy he no longer wants to play there. He is a top 10 QB in the NFL.

Palmer has been my first choice at qb for the Cards. I would love to see the Cards get him. Being only 31 years old, he could easily be the qb for the next 5 to 7 years.
