With the extremely high level that Warner is playing at, will he price himself out of the Cards plans? He's only got a year or two left and wants to stay in Arizona but he's going to want to get paid. The QB is usually the highest paid player on the team and Warner's not going to accept a 2 year 12 million dollar deal. If he keeps completing 70% of his passes and goes to the Pro Bowl, i think he'll want 10 mill minimum. Coming off a year like he's projecting, do the Cards let him walk and go with Leinart? Or do they bite the bullet and pony up for him? Doing that will cost them Dansby and probably Boldin, maybe Gandy. I think it's essential to reatin Gandy as much as anyone. He's,again, been our best OL.

I he didn't have the receiving corps he's got, the o-line and coordinator he does, he wouldn't be at that high of a rating or completion percentage.

No, I don't think Warner will ask for an insane amount of money for next year, but rather ask for 2 or 3 years on the deal

He's stated he wants to retire a Cardinal and wants to take this team places. Plus, he is an upstanding guy, not like some ghetto thug managed by Drew Rosenhaus

if you want to be good for the long-term, you don't prioritize your older players over your younger studs. Dansby should be priority 1, 1a and 1b. Not a 37 year old QB, not a somewhat Decent 30 year-old LT and no, not even a stud 28 year old WR who has a history of injury problems throughout his pro and college career.

I would normally agree. But the QB position is different. When ever you get a guy who is performing at a high level at the QB position you have to ride it till it ends.

I would give Warner what he deserves on a 2-3 year deal and wouldnt look back.

WR's, LB's and RB's can be replaced. QB's cannot.

Release Edge and use that money to bump up Warner & Boldin.

One thing I think we can all agree on:

Yup. Cut Edge, get Dansby signed, get Boldin signed, keep AW happy. Buh bye Eric Green and unfortunately bye Warner. I've not been his biggest fan, but hard to look past what he has done. I think after this year we would be foolish to rely on a QB his age. Unfortunate as it may be. Oh and bye bye Antron.

I agree. But it is BB,RG,and MB we're talking about here and they seem to put alot in public perception so that's why i think they may prioritzie Wrner and Boldin while letting Dansby hit the streets and paint him as not being a "team" player. Hopefully, they have learned that the best way to win the public is by winning on the field. That starts with re-signing Dansby as priority 1, trading Boldin at his highest value 2, and keeping Gandy and Warner the next steps.

If we lock up Dansby this season, is there any way we can use the tag on Warner? I know that it would be an insane cap hit but the Franchise Tag was created for QBs. Anyone know what the cap hit will be for a Franchise QB and does anyone know what our cap will be next year?

I think we should sign Warner and trade Boldin. I love Boldin and think he's the heart and soul of the team but Fitz's contract just doesn't allow us to spend 9 or 10 million on another receiver, especially with the play of Breaston. We have Ducet as a solid 3rd and lets not forget about Lance Long on the PS. If we can pick up a first rounder in the trade for Boldin somewhere in the 10-13 spot (plus at least a 3rd) we can draft James Laurinaitis or Rey Maualuga and let Dansby walk. I just can't see us paying big $$ to a guy that can't make the pro bowl. By letting Dansby walk we can sign T. Suggs and let the heads start to roll =) With our original 1st pick we can draft a RB or Safety.

Warner will stay here for any amount that isn't overly insulting.
He's been on record several times saying that he loves the area, and doesn't want to move his family again.

How awesome would it be for Warner to take the Cards deep into the playoffs (Or SB ! :koolaid:) and then retire as a Cardinal?

suck it Rams !!

Franchising Warner is an interesting scenario. But I'm afraid it would be prohibitively expensive. Isn't the cost the average of the top five QB's which has to be in the $10 million neighborhood. My best guess is $5-6 million per year for two years with 2-3 million of it in signing bonus.

I don't think he's gone b/c I've heard a couple of different places that he doesn't really want to move his family again. I think he understand how good of a situation he's in right now too. Where else is he going to go and have better receivers and a running game so bad that they've got to throw in 50 times a game?

He'll be back.

No way in hell do I pay $10M for Warner. In fact, 2/12M seems very generous.

How do incentives work in terms of the salary cap? Why not sign him to a cap friendly salary and then stack the contract with incentives?

I think Warner is probably a bit gun shy when it comes to incentive based contracts and the Cardinals. :p

Warner is about ME, RIGHT NOW! He will, WILL, fall apart. it's his mo. Give him a bit more $ than he's making now, but, not at the expense of NEEDED others.
I agree with the dansby signing, i told my wife i wnted a Dansby t-shirt (w/name and number of course). Sign Q, get Breaston in the mix and make him happy, our TE's are a problem, ANY coach would love to have. KEEP ARRINGTON!
In, more than a FEW words, Kurt is a good part of this team, but not all that. He won't be starting next year, unless Whiz just can't bite the bullet on Lienhart.
Read my other post. Tel me if i'm off. NOT wrong, in your esteemed opinions, but off. I happen to think i'm close to , dead on!

When Warner signed his last extension here, his family, his older kids in particular, begged him to not move again. He said that was the primary reason why he took the deal without waiting to see what else he could get. If the Cards give him a reasonable offer he will take it. I'm not so sure they will though.

I think I know what you're referencing but didn't it get revealed that the Cardinals agreed that he was "close enough" and were going to pay him the last bonus to get to $1.5 million and the NFL axed it? I don't think Warner has any problem with the Card's in trusting them with incentives.

Rolle is work project. Next year will be his tell all. Depending, on how far we go, this year, edge will stay. 1-he knows a ring isn't far, 2-he knows he's still an ox, but lacks a thorobred's speed. We could use him as he could us.
Next-trading Boldin is Rosenthall folley. Q will see the light, accept a VERY decent contract, and be twins with Fitz for years to come.
"LATELY" Doucet is still a work in progress. Two years before he reaches potential.

He is legitimately in the MVP discussion at this point. If we go on a run of a few games, finish with 10 or 11 wins, and Warner's numbers stay like this, and we win a game or two in the playoffs, I can't see us not extending him. It would be a PR and organizational nightmare if we didn't. Shades of the '98 selloff.

If both sides want it Kurt will be here next season guaranteed. This is the guy who came to training camp WITHOUT a contract in 2000 after winning the MVP in both the regular season and the Super Bowl. As far as I know he has had the same agent for entire NFL career. He is the least of Rod Graves' offseason problems IMO.
