Very solid LT. You can put him on an island with any DE they throw at him and not have to worry about it. Much like with a "shut down" corner you can have him blanket a top WR 1 on 1 instead of rolling coverage or bracketing with a safety etc. Having a LT like Albert would allow is to stay away from having to chip with a back or flat out help with another OL. It would free up another option in the passing game for Palmer. A night and day difference in he offense.

I'm normally against high priced free agents but this one just makes too much sense. It would also free us up in the draft to go BPA, maybe Clinton-dix or one of the three top tier TE's

The most impressive thing I saw him do all game long was bring the O-line together on the sideline and go off on them. The dude's a leader, that will do more for our o-line than any physical talent he has.

+1, and he is banged up.

I cannot see how the Cardinals would pull it off tho, and I think the Chiefs are going to re-sign him.

Yup. I was super-skeptical of Albert coming out in the draft, but he's turned me into a believer. He doesn't always look great, but Ben Muth is a huge fan of Albert, and he might be the best left tackle in the NFL today. Another guy who's turned into a great player is Tyron Smith of the Cowboys.

Albert may be the best free agent target available overall in 2014 free agency. Kansas City would have to pay Albert 120% of his current salary (about $11.8M) if they're going to place the Franchise tag on him for a second year. I don't know if they'll do that, but they don't have any other remarkable free agents in 2014, so maybe they will.

We have more CAP room than KC.

They are at $6.8m under for 44 players in 2014.

They have to shuffle at lot more than us, and they have Fisher, last year's first rounder, to fill the role.

I don't think you use the 1st overall pick of the draft as a right tackle for too long. Albert would then be a pretty expensive right tackle.

I can't see KC re-signing him. They didn't spend the #1 overall pick on a RT and aren't going to pay a RT 12mil. Their cap situation is significantly worse than ours also, especially in 2015. That cap space is 2015 gives us the opportunity to sign him to a low cap figure in year one and give him his big dough in year 2 (2015), KC doesn't have that option.

On another note, Anthony Collins was struggling all game against Melvin Ingram. Collins would still be a cheaper alternative but he's also not as good as Albert.

It was nice to see what a healthy Ingram can do. He was all over the place.

LOL I was watching the game and when I seen Ingram on the field I

was like " I thought he was out for the year?" They have some good

players on that front seven. They did it like the Panthers did it.

Are you taking notes Jerry Jones?

I'd like to take him so we could potentially go BPA with #20.

Yeah I agree. Sure up the LT position in FA and the Cardinals could pick BPA at 20 without sacrificing a position of need.

100% agree and also concerned about having that much inexperience on line in NFC WEST. Allows us to go BPA. I hope it's a TE personally. A dynamic Vaccaro like Safety or sliding pass rusher would be nice too.

I'm still dubious at the idea that KC just lets him walk for absolutely nothing. If he's that good, and their #1 pick was pretty shaky this season, is it really THAT out of the question that they either tag him again, or even sign him long-term, considering that rookie contracts aren't nearly as onerous as they once were which would mandate that the have to play him at LT.

guess time will tell. i hope they don't tag him, but just letting a young beast like him walk for nothing would surprise me.

Yep. If KC lets him walk and Fitz restructures I'll consider him a realistic option.

I like him though...

would be a great pickup by the team....but just keep in mind....he is not facing NFCW defensive fronts all the time....the talent he is seeing every week does not compare to what the hags niners and lambs will be throwing at him.
Adding him, and recovering Coop.....damn our left side would be strong....and...don't we have a rookie hiding on the roster that can play guard and center??....if we were to pick up another top guard in this draft we could have a strong young line for years,...with our experience at the bookends..

Yeah... it would be a shame if they did that. Albert is one of the top 5 OTs in the NFL and hasn't really had the injury problems/prohibitive cap number that someone like Long had with Miami.

That Central Michigan OT was allegedly disasterous for the Chiefs this year.

and i guess that's where I'm dubious that they just let a very good, healthy, young LT go for nothing. especially if their LT of the future was truly a disaster this year.

According to overthecap.com (http://overthecap.com/teamcap.php?Team=Chiefs&Year=2014) the Chiefs have $120.9M in cap space already dedicated to 44 players on their roster, and an additional $1.35M in dead money. That gets them really, really close to the cap.

It doesn't seem like they have a lot of space on their cap where they can clear out $12.5M by March 10 or whenever the league year opens. They could find it by releasing Eric Berry, Tamba Hali, and Brandon Flowers and then release Derrick Johnson to sign their rookie class, but that doesn't seem like a great trade-off for them.

Check out their cap situation over the next two years. Not only do they have very little cap room over '14/'15 but they don't have any big contracts to older players that they can use to free up cap room.

The cards have a ton of room in '15 and have some contracts like D.Colledge that than free up a good amount of space.

If it was simply a "want" decision, the Chiefs would love to bring Albert back, but they have a bunch of good young players under contract, none of which they want to part ways with and they still need to re-sign G.Schwartz on teh right side of the line.
