How is Monti going to convince free agents to come here after a second consecutive season 11+ losses?
Yeah, I know. That's why the whole argument they are trying to tank and didn't sign free agents is so dumb.

Free agents are not going to want to come to a talent deprived losing team with a new unknown coaching staff.

Do you think they’re going to want to come next year when the new regime is a known quantity, but probably known as awful after what’s going to be a completely atrocious season, while still being talent deprived?

Monti will just explain to them that we’re not throwing as many Wr screens or committing as many pre-snap penalties and they’ll be happy to sign for less money actually.

Also, when pending free agents hear how we have three third-round picks, they’ll line up to sign below-market deals.

For everybody bagging on Ossenfort for not resigning Byron Murphy here is proof he tried:
xc_hide_links_from_guests_guests_error_hide_media

As I have said many times - Allen and Murphy had to want to come back to be able to sign them - and that isn't on Monti.
In this case, I withdraw my criticism of Monti. As we can say we know he tried to sign him, he tried to do the right thing in that instance.

How the hell does a training staff MISS a L-5/S-1 back fracture?!

Also, this is a results based league. Monti doesn’t get points for trying and failing. His primary job in FA in sales. Bottom line here, if Murphy is to be believed, Monty failed to sell Murphy on his vision, despite throwing more money at him.

I agree here however admittedly considering the situation was probably a very tough sell.

The missed diagnosis is insane. My lord this organization was flat out pitiful in 2022.

The back thing is bizarre...how'd they miss it? Also, though, wouldn't he have had to be healed to pass his FA physical?

I don't think we are giving Monti enough credit for how he set-up this team for 2024 NFL draft.

We could have 6 picks in the top 70-80. That is stupid good.

1st round - 2
2nd round - 1
Third round - 3

11 picks total.

That is how you rebuild a team.
Kind of. The draft can be an absolute crap shoot. Putting all of your eggs into that basket is a great way to look like a donkey for sure.

JMO, but I think that Monti will end up being the greatest GM in Cards history and I know all about the 'low bar' theory. Since, like all of us, I can be an, "I told you so" type of guy, I want to go on record since I probably won't last as long as I expect Monti will. As the above posts infer, in the short run he will be judged by the way he handles next year's Draft. And while it does appear that it will be a VG Draft with a lot of talent available, he'll have to make the right choices.

This year by all accounts will be a tough one, but it will probably be JG that will get the most credit or blame.

Let the games begin.

I am 100% ok with people saying they think Monti will be great with zero legitimate facts to back it up. Perfectly fine. Hopium...rose glasses...whatever you want to call it. As long as people also admit there isn't really a reason outside of blind faith.

It reminds of lines from Shakespeare in Love.

It will turn out well.

How?

I don't know, it's a mystery.

Kudos to you Garth (no sarcasm). I respect your stance.

I’m still not convinced this isn’t PACardsFan.

Even the overwhelming homerism is the same

I have no idea what he'll be, but I'm happy that is seems he is actually in control and making wholesale changes. Time will tell if it works or not and I'm blindly optimistic

Right. If the front office is excused because no one wants to come here we’ll never sign any free agent and all of our free agents will leave. The “they don’t want to be” excuse is a terrible excuse because it’s literally the teams responsibility to change players minds. Be that through making them feel wanted, winning, giving opportunity, or overpay it doesn’t matter - they have to get it done. If no one wants to come here, that’s literally the team’s fault. It’s not like the greater Phoenix metro area is Detroit.

Let's hope they rock. You expect Paris to excel, and the others would be gravy.
This concept is so funny. You lose three of your best players, don't replace them, are predicted to be the worst team in the NFL, and then people crow about how three rookies start on the talent depleted roster.

I like Michael Wilson, and am excited about his potential, but his competition was Pascal and Rondale Moore. Like...that is not a tough mountain to climb.

Kei'trel Clark beating out Christian Matthew and Antonio Hamilton is also not much to crow about.

All that said, at least we have three drafted dudes who seem to belong on NFL rosters. That is something.

We all know the saying that looks can be deceiving. So, if I were playing Name My Job, these would be my guesses.
1. Steve Keim- Something to do with FB.
2. Monti Ossenfort- A HS Principal. And you don't want to be sent to Mr. Ossenfort's office.
3. Drew Petzing- One of Mr. O's teachers.
4. Nick Rallis- If you see him in his hoodie, just hope he's not anywhere near your car in a parking lot. If so, say goodbye to your hub caps.
5. Jonathan Gannon- A Navy Submarine Commander. Run silent , run deep.

Just my way of getting over a tough loss.

Not as bad as the MNF loss to the Bears, but brutal just the same. My cardiologist and wife frown on me watching games live these days, but it’s just as unhealthy when you check the score & it’s 28-7, then 45 minutes later it’s 28-28 and the Giants are driving. Being a Cardinal fan sure does take its toll on you lol.

Great post especially the cardiologist comment. To avoid this just glance at the game headline the next day and move on. Read this board latter in the week for humor…
