You say unexpected positive outcome I say good luck. Luck is easier to say and write. Like "It took several unexpected positive outcomes for us to win" vs "We were lucky to win." The latter works just fine for me.

Of course it is.

Just so long that we can agree that luck isn't some mystical magical force that for whatever reason decided it liked you better that day than the other guy.

And to bring it back full circle, we weren't lucky to win. We found ourselves on the negative end of several unexpected outcomes and still had enough positive outcomes to outscore the other team in the end thanks to our preparation and hard work.

How so on faith? I don't believe in predetermined destiny but instead free will. Not sure I see the correlation there.

I don't believe in karma. I do believe your choices can bite you in the behind, but not because of some unseen force driving towards you as payback. Your choices simply open up pathways that can lead to unsavory places. Or great places. Sometimes both. Sometimes bad choices can lead to great results, too.

I do have a lot of interest in dimensional space/time, and choices in those types of realms I find fascinating.

I just can't agree with you. There simply have been too many times when all I had to do was get away from the TV for the Cards to score. Heck just last month all I had to do was get into a debate with K9 where I was touting Beanie as one of the best RBs in the NFL and then BW gets hurt not once but twice and misses the opener.

You're absolutely correct to believe this...it's the "butterfly effect" dude.

The moment you walk away from the television set, you set off an brand you chain of events...of which there there is a strong possibility of creating the negative-reciprocal effect; good becomes bad, black becomes white, and Tangodnzr makes crystal clear sense.

Several of you have explained very well that luck doesn't exist. I don't agree, on the rare occasion I hit a nice tee shot the only explanation is luck.

I don't even believe in luck. When bad things have happened to us in the past--and so many bad things have happened to our organization, it's actually difficult to know where to begin--I came to realize over time it wasn't luck and I wasn't surprised. I'm not going to get down on the guys for scraping out a win on the road against a division opponent in the first game of the season. Just won't do it. Can't do it, won't do it. They played with determination and hussle and a no-quit attitude and that will win you some ballgames. I'm not going to complain about it. You can teach a lot of other stuff, but you can't teach that. When we've lost those games in the past, it was because of stuff like that, and we took our whoopins like men for the most part, so I'll take the win the same way: we deserved it, we outplayed them, and we just wouldn't lose. And it'll happen again. It's a mentality you either have or you don't as a team, and we have it. There's some teams, when they're playing, you just know they're going to find a way to win it, even if it's tight or messy or whatever. Our team is turning into one of those teams.

It would be unexpected for both of them, not lucky. A positive and negative unexpected result.

HIGHLY unlikely result for sure, given all the variables in play in order to bring about the situation, but has no bearing on "luck." Luck is a made up lay term to describe the maddening multi-variable world of unplanned and unexpected results we live with all around us.

Preparation and opportunity put them both in that situation. Getting the full count, getting to a one pitch scenario, etc. The variable of the bird enters the equation, something that can't be prepared for. Thus, an unexpected negative result for Randy. The batter still has to decide to swing or not, is prepared to make that decision and has the opportunity to see a bad pitch coming his way...takes the ball, wins the game. Not lucky. Unexpected positive outcome.

Or, simply see Ken's post.

I wonder if the bird considers this "bad luck" :D

For free will, it follows then that a rabbit would willingly choose to give itself to a coyote for dinner, a Ram would likewise give itself to a Cardinal as an aperitif.

Imo, if one believes in free will, how then is it possible to perceive what has occured as good or bad luck because what has happened is ones' own choice? The Rams chose to lose, the Cards chose to win

:)

Nope, the coyote was just faster. The rabbit chose to run, the wolf won.

Same with the Ram...it tried to fight the bird, and lost.

You nailed it. There is no luck. The Cards preparation and reactions were simply better than the Rams'. Better enough to overcome several wacky probabilities that usually are too tough to overcome if they ever even come to fruition. The Cards are superior. ;)

Who cares. We actually won a game where our opponent messed up at the end to lose. That is just friggin' awesome.

Imagine how great it must have been for all our ASFN friends and family that were at that game when Janikowski missed.

The ones who stayed anyway. Wonder how many got up and headed for the exits after DRC's PI was called.

Vegas, baby, yeah!
Better to be lucky than good sometimes.

Key word there is "sometimes". Right now, it appears that we're relying on it a bit too much.

I guess the good news is that the old Cardiac Cards is back!

Regardless, we're 2-1. Onto the Chargers! (*gulp!*) :number1:

I think todays win was more Karma than anything. Just proves the ref made a total BS call on the PI. Or...Maybe God blessed us Friday when Warner showed up at the training facility.

That was a crappy call against DRC.

How in the hell do you call that against the home team with less than a minute in the 4th? Shameful.

Also, thank you football gods for finally, finally, showing some mercy to this historically unlucky franchise.

Yes.

Lucky as H-E-double hockey sticks.

I will say this.

As hard as the offense tried to give this game away, the defense prevented it from happening.

Except for one "wish and a prayer" bomb on Toler, the Rams didn't really do too much.

I have to agree the defense came up big on more than one occasion but those interference calls sure hurt. A win is a win.

So fricking what? I don't care if they out gained us 400 yds to 2, as long as we won.

BTW, the greatest play of the game, Breaston's, was NOT lucky.

San Diego set an all time passing record of something like 460 yards and lost. What does that say?

Probably not too many. Most of the ASFN folks I know that go to the games go early and stay late.

Heck our Derminators tailgate motto from SDS days was "No Matter How Bad They Are WE'LL BE BACK!!!"

Dang economy. First home opener I've missed in years and that would have been one of if not the most exciting finishes ever.

Cards have now won 4 of their last 5 home openers.
