This is something I feel this team has, talent. Sorry, but Wendel Bryant, Levar Fisher, Adrian Wilson, Leonard Davis, L.J. Shelton, King, Clement, and even players like McCown have been crippled by bad coaching. It all comes down to pi@$ poor coaching... see Joe Green the great player but horrible coach of the DL. It was also very good to see a light come on in the heads of players like Bryant Johnson and Dennis Johnson towards the end of the season. Lastly, Nathan Poole was making some good plays before the end of the season before the catch that sent the Vikings packing. If the organization can grab one of the quality CBs in free agency and some sort of a veteran pass rusher then this team really is not that far away. The wins against the Vikings, Packers, Niners and a improved Bengal team shows that this team can win if coached right. The fact that this team couldn't win a road game and got blown out against some evenly matched team shows the sad state of our past coaching staff. Coach McGinnis was a class act and I wish him the absolute best but Green is a far better head coach.

You are not alone in these thoughts. I agree. I think many others do as well.

But, the past is the past, let's move forward, all the way to the top of the NFC WEST.

While I agree that there is some talent on this team, to say that they are not that far away is a gross overstatement. They played well in a handful of home games. They were embarrassed in almost every road game. I know a lot of that is on the coaches, but the players play the game. If you took the Patriots and let Mac and his staff coach them, they would not be blown out and embarrassed on the road. The bottom line is that the Cards are still a ways away from being a successful team. They have a few talented players, ie. Boldin, L. Davis, R. Thompson, but for the most part they are mediocre (Shipp, BJ, Blake/McCown, and the rest). The team lacks any consistency, and until the players show they can do it week in and week out, you can't say that they're close. The coaches should make things better, but they are not a talented team. Every team in the league has talent, but there are only a handful of good teams.

I agree with this statement. Remember that there are only 5 or 6 good teams, but 12 teams make the play-offs. Next year, we need to be one of the 6 or 7 regularly talented teams that make the play-offs and the following year move up into the elite group through drafts and free agency this year and next year.

:biglaugh: Don't make any bets on that statement! NE is a very well coached team of average talent! Quick!, how many perennial pro-bowlers on the Patriots????

Parity is the name of the game in the NFL. Only four 2002 playoff teams managed to repeat the feat in 2003. That means eight teams that didn't make it last year got in this year. Carolina and Dallas are great examples of teams that stunk it up last year but came back to compete ferociously this year.

Our wins against GB and Minnesota weren't accidents. We have some good/great players on this team. If we upgrade the defensive side of the ball some for 04', and coach up the offense, we'll be playing in January next season!

Best post I ever read regarding MaC's coaching abilities, or was this a knock on Billicheck (sp).

BTW, if you watched the Pats and Titans game, you might have seen in Billicheck and Fisher, two of the best coaches in the NFL---just great schemes in every aspect of the game.
