I mentioned this before but there are more realistic possibilities at CB in FA than pass rushers. You can get pass rushers & front 7 guys (DL, ILB & OLB) in the draft. We can go after a #2 CB in FA.

Janoris Jenkins
Sean Smith
Pacman Jones
Prince Amukamara
Leon Hall

Why not get both this offseason?

Read what I wrote. I see a need past Powers and Bethel and it needs to be a vet because one sure the hell cannot trust a majority of the passes going at rookie (hence, the draft is not a solution). Unlike some posters, I do not propose to know all the answers with authority and I am asking the forum which vets might be available because it is a concern I see on this team and I respect the knowledge of those here on the board... don't fault me for not presenting an answer or proving anything for a 'he is smart' proverbial ribbon, if I knew I probably would not be asking because I do not think there is a simple answer :)

There aren't any, that's why I asked who you had in mind.

I am not convinced even with a better pass rush Bethel will be fine. It definitely would help by shortening the duration he has to stay on his man but that is more or less hiding him. I agree that we probably need an upgrade there versus Bethel.

Never gonna happen......but if it did, WOW, just WOW.

Peterson is a great athlete, a great cornerback. But, Jenkins is a ball hawk like Mathieu, IMHO.

Anytime the ball is in the air, it would be a risk to the other team.

That all being said, the pass rush has to be addressed 1st if it can be.

That being said, I do not see where the opportunity to get a pass rusher is going to come from.

Yes, but Janoris tends to get burned more times than not. He did great this year(I wonder why? Maybe because this was a contract year), but he has been inconsistent.

I'd rather sign the other Rams CB, Trumaine.

the Cards lost to Car, and almost lost to GB because they lost up front on both sides of the ball

they need to improve there first

Bethel will be fine with experience and a better pass rush.
He's got the tools. That said we should have a shot at one in the 2nd Rd. who can develop. Lineman or backer 1st, CB by the 3rd Rd. There is usually a glut of 2nd tier talent who have a lot of potential around that time of the draft. But my feeling is that they just signed Bethel so that's their immediate plan. They should put DBuch back to SS and draft an ILB early.
1-DL/OLB
2-ILB
3-CB
4BPA~Offense

They can still also keep developing Martin and Riddick hopefully into rotation players at the least.

Who? Specifically

I dont like rhetorical discussions to simple answers. We need a pass rusher? Cool, I can name 10 in the draft we have a shot at.

You say we need a bonafide #1 CB to play #2 CB here. Who'd you have in mind?

Josh Norman is a FA this summer isn't he? And he had arguably the best season out of all CBs this year.

Consistent pressure is more important. Young James Harrison and Lamarr Woodley made guys like Bryant McFadden look serviceable. In today's game corner is probably the 2nd toughest position to be successful at and without help inexperienced players like Justin Bethel need all the help he can get.

watching Carolina's D makes me pine for 2013. Man, that D was SO FREAKING LOADED with a younger Campbell, a space-eater in the middle with Williams, Dockett, PP and HB in the secondary, Old Abe off the edge and those two absolute BEASTS in the middle with Dansby/Washington. That D was loaded... lots of talent has been lost from that group either because of age or FA.

Yup they were awesome

I watch a lot of Rams games because my buddy is a Rams fan. I see a lot of JJ & he is a pretty good cb. Best one on the Rams roster so I don't see them letting him get away. He would pair up great with PP imho.

You think Trumaine is better than JJ?

As a #2 CB he might be a better fit. CB's are expensive though aren't they, especially ones that can be considered #1 material. I know pass rushers are expensive as well, but I'd choose a very good pass rusher and serviceable CB2, as opposed to a 2nd nearly #1CB and mediocre or serviceable pass rusher.

Do you think Jeremy Lane is that big of an upgrade over Bethel or a guy like Powers? I think Lane is decent, but looks better because of the Seahawks pass rush, and the fact they don't have to gamble and blitz everybody to get pressure on the QB.
