Hightower is a great change of pace bruiser back with some speed and hands but not a everydown back with our line. Arrington, if back, with this team still does not have the tackle breaking ability to be our starter. Edge I think said that he will not be back and it is a mutual thing with the team's position (that is just what I have heard). So...WE NEED A STARTING HB.

I heard Larry Johnson is not happy in KC...hmmmm

you don't want LJ... head case who'll whine and moan... get a good one from the draft... Lesean McCoy would be SICK as a AZ Card. (FWIW, I'm a Louisville Cardinal fan who is glad that **** went pro).

He would be a huge cap hit, from what I've heard from KC fans he's almost untradeable due to that.

thing is - will they try to actually run the ball? Last night, Edge had a fair amount of success, but, they got away from the run... then, went away from him (I was dumbfounded).

If they're going to play that way, you need a 3rd down back as your every down back (i.e., a Brian Westbrook).

the combo of Arrington and Hightower may be sufficient, if it allows the team to re-sign Warner and Boldin...

A Center, a RB, a CB, pass rushing DEs, LB help.

Yep, that should do it.

If they trade Boldin hopefully it is to the mid first round and they nab Knoshawn Moreno.

Make it happen. I won't have to gag at seeing #25 on the field anymore.

I say look for Leon Washington on the Jets.

With a new coach in town, there might be some oppourtunity to pick up some players from that franchise.

I think Leon Washington is everything you want in a speed back.

No Larry Johnson, No Edge, no "every down back"

We need 2 RB's. That's how Cowher got it done in Pittsburg (Bettis/Parker) and Gibbs got it done in Washington (Riggins/Washington)

I don't know what to think of Hightower. It deosn't make sense that he does well as a 3rd down back but not as the regular RB. I could see if he was a little guy, like Washington, and there was no way to be an everydown RB. But he has the size and accleration to be the every down back. You have to figure that he'll be better next year. The thing i noticed about him is that he has alot of wasted movement. It seems like he is making about 20 moves to get two yards and there is alot of lateral movment instead of getting upfield. You would think that is something that is correctable with coaching and experience.

On LeSean Mccoy, when i was in St. Louis for the Rams/Cards game, i stayed at the same hotel as the Cards and met Rod Graves in the hotel bar. Him and some other guy, i'm assuming it was Keim but not sure, were watching the ND/Pitt game when i was talking to them and they were both very, VERY interested in the game when McCoy was running the ball. It was easy to notice that they were interested in him. Not that that means anything but it's funny now that it seems like every draft pundit has us taking him.

Brandon Jacobs will be a free agent I believe. Take a run at him but don't break the bank.

McCoy just doesnt show any vision though. I would be scared with him because Vision just isnt all that coachable.

Moreno would be a huge get for us though. Finally saw a lot of tape on him and he will be a good one. Shogun is right he is Clinton Portis at the U all over again. But here is what makes Moreno so good last year, he had a better year then his sophmore year and did it with 2 freshman and 3 sophmore OL blocking for him.

If we trade Boldin hope is for a pick high enough to snag this guy.

if history has taught us anything -- its beware of RBs as they approach 30 --

particularly "physical" style backs like Jacobs and Larry Johnson

Hightower is only going to get better -- they need somebody who can threaten the defense when they get into the second level.

JJ does some of that -- but he is a little straightline-ish and his instincts are just so-so.

How about 3 RBs ala NY Giants.

If JJ is re-signed we'd have two, and through either the draft or FA we get our third.

Re: FA - aren't "Quick' Willie Parker and Derek Ward both available?

I don't think Parker is but Ward may be.

Anyways, Parker will be 28 next season and Ward 29. I don't think we need to bring in any more older running backs.

the one thing Ward has working for him is that he doesnt have a lot of wear on the tread

He has been a spot starter, so he hasnt accumulated a bunch of carries

I also think he will be reasonably priced --

he is a west coast guy as well -- from LA

might be a good fit

I"m a firm believer in finding your RB's in the draft.

Focus on finding a guy who's like an uber judge of them and you become a RB factory.

Some teams just have them comming out their ears and other teams can't seem to buy one, become the former, avoid the latter.

Some people think we can get a pro bowler and a top ten pick for Boldin.. I don't see it, but if we can we can come away with a monster draft.

We need a FB that will carry his weight, and Hightower will be fine.

As a pass blocker, Terrell Smith has carried his weight in gold. Can't ask for the guy to do more than he's already done for this team.

As for names suggested....

Larry Johnson:

- Strike One: he's a pain in the ass to deal with and is a prototype "Me First" player. He's sulky, moody and fights with coaches on a perpetual basis. When you can't get along with Dick Vermeil, Joe Paterno and Herm Edwards, what's that say about you? Plus, you throw his past legal troubles in to the mix and you've got the recipe for a guy who will wreck a lockerroom morale in a hurry and bring this team the type of press it doesn't need.

- Strike Two: He's got a TON of tread on his tires and has had a rapid one way fall since his 416 carry season.

- Strike 3: He's going to be 30 at the end of next season-- an age where HB with a lot of miles begin to breakdown anyhow. Throw in the fact that Johnson has fallen off the face of the earth each of the last two seasons and is locked down to a ball busting contract you have more ammo.

In conclusion, with Larry Johnson, you have a HB with a poopy attitude and a ton of tread on his tires, who is in the middle of a fat contract. Compare him to a SUV with 180,000 miles on it. The car may look nice but it's hell on gas and is already breaking down in front of your very eyes.. In laymens terms, just say no to this Larry.

Derrick Ward

I wouldn't at all be opposed to see the Cardinals bring Ward in. Yes, he's going to be 29, but unlike Johnson, he's still got relatively fresh legs and doesn't have a lot of wear and tear. I consider him like an 90s car with under 100,000 miles on it that you want to bring in to compliment your new vehicle, as a secondary car. He'd be a nice fit in this offense and being more of a helper back than a true go-to-guy, I doubt he'd break the bank either.

Brandon Jacobs

Consider him the hybrid car that may be out of your price range. Gamble if you must, but explore other options. He'd be a hell of a pickup, but he's not going to be cheap, and I think New York moves mountains to re-sign him.

Willie Parker

He's your next door neighbor's car.. or wife.. Whatever the case, neither are available.

LeSean McCoy

I've seen this kid play since high school, got to scout him extensively and I assure you, if Arizona has the chance to take him, they may want to seriously consider it.

He's got all the trimmings to be a featured, go-to back who would fit like a glove in this offense.

Consider him to be the economy car-- little to no mileage, great on gas and the potential to be yours for a very long time.
