1-Andre Ellington had over 60% of snaps even with leaving the game. Doesn't seem like Arians has any plan to reduce his usage.

2-My guess is that as Michael Floyd's snap percentage goes up, Nelson's will go down. The other idea is that the Cards want his speed, and Floyd's snaps will also cut into Gresham's.

3-Niklas is the new Ghost.

4-Big rotation being used on the defensive line. Seems like Gunter is getting Dan Williams old rep numbers.

5-Surprising that Stinson got more snaps than Mauro.

6-Only 3 LBs totalled over 50% of the snaps.

7-Weatherspoon is a huge disappoint right now. Maybe they are easing him back or maybe his one year deal is a good thing for the Cardinals.

8-6 DBs over 75% of snaps vs a more dedicated running game w/ New Orleans.

9-If this is around the usage moving forward, don't expect to see a ton of fast pressure on QBs. 6 DBs on the field is much harder to get home on blitzes with rather than 5 DBs.

Thx Chop.

I wonder if Floyd had a setback during the game because it sure did seem I didn't see him after the first couple of series. Anyone hear anything?

Still shocked he played at all.

Not a lot of playing time for other LBs with Bucannon playing every snap & Oakafor & Minter playing almost every snap. I'd really like to see Markus Golden & Kareem Martin get more time so that maybe we can get more pressure on the QB (Riddick too, but he has to be active 1st). Weatherspoon is still being eased in... I'm sure he'll see more time against the better rushing attacks that we'll face. Bucannon has good instincts, but he can't take on O-linemen that make it to the 2nd level... he has to use his quickness to get around them & sometimes it takes him out of the play.

Bucky - I think they we're just limiting his snaps for precaution. I didn't hear anything about him aggravating the hand injury. Arians talked about it a little & said he didn't have a set # to limit his snaps, but he just wanted him to get a little time out there to start working his way back into game speed. He had a really nice 18 yd catch in the 1st.

I agree with a lot of what you said however Stinson I think deserves more snaps than Maruo at this point in time.

And Weatherspoon, sure he's been a disappointment. But in his 12 snaps. He chased down a screen from behind and laid the wood in the beginning of the game. I saw it tonight on the all 22. It was a pure hustle play. I didn't finish the game and only made it to the second quarter so I don't know about the rest. But the potential is there for sure.

Throwing Watford's name out there with Sowell's and Humphries' is just plain terrible. Watford had a tremendous first game and has probably taken the RT position completely away from Massie, who has already started for one year on this team. I believe you need to get updated on our O-line. Our starters each played all the offensive snaps. None of them gave up a sack, and Watford opened some huge holes for our backs to run through.

Chopper, nice job of laying that snap count information out to us. I really look forward to seeing that each week. It is one of the most meaningful statistical elements for checking on our team's performance that I know of. Thanks for your help.

1. As I recall, Watford looked pretty bad on the opening drive. Really seemed to settle in after that though. Hope he has a good year as I don't think we'll resign Massey next season.

2. I'm not going to get on Humphries lack of playing time yet. Those in front of him have been in this system for too long. I don't think he knows the protection schemes well enough to risk Palmer getting killed due to Humphries' MEs. If he sees any playing time this year, it will because someone up front is either injured or awful. Hoping for neither.

3. I said in another thread I was most surprised at Bethel's lack of playing time. We only played 2 CB's the entire game? Has that ever happened before?

4. Anyone know when Niklas played? I never saw him out there... assumed he wasn't healthy.

5. I think Spoon and Floyd aren't 100% yet and both are being brought back slowly. I expect to see their snaps continue to increase over the next few games.

Love these snap count threads. Very insightful.

Sendlein is an interesting story. Basically cut, then finally resigned when others could not cut it. Next thing, he is starting again.

Markus Golden had a presence for as few snaps as he actually took.

I saw him in the Goal Line set on the 2nd TD.

Watford is a Boss though. Sowell just knows the playbook better. Watford played well and on every TD, he was the first guy in the endzone celebrating with the TD scorer. Loved his performance.

I guess it is apparent that Bethel is and always will be just a special teamer (albeit a very good one). I actually was buying some of the offseason hype about him becoming a regular defensive contributor and a potential star as a DB.

Yeah, disappointing so far, but nothing prevents guys from getting better other than themselves or a total lack of athleticism, which is rare. My guess is they are easng him back, but even so, he was signed to play and he isn't so far on our worst unit. Disappointing.

Meh, if you look around for articles about offensive line play, you will see a huge shift in what to expect from drafted players. The adjustment has become similar to the adjustment that WRs used to take. There is such a difference in terms of physicality and speed from the college to the NFL for linemen, plus a huge adjustment is schemes, technique, and study requirements that expecting a guy to start from day 1 is becoming absurd. Very few linemen are coming out of college and making an impact anymore, and it is becoming true for first rounders as well. If you look back at the past three years fo NFL drafts, you will see a ton of guys who are approaching bust status.

Watford is the example of drafting a guy with athletic talent in the mid rounds, developing him, and finding a place for him to fit in. My may not ever be more than an average RT, but getting that sort of player in round 4 is a good thing. He is a strong guy so he should do well vs strength players but I am curious to see how he does vs speed.

The thing I like best about the Watford situation is that he was a fringe roster cut, but when an opportunity opened up, Arians was smart enough to see that Watford was his best option despite other player's draft statuses or history in the league. I like that in a coach.

x2

Game has become specialized to a ridiculous level. Most players can't survive on athleticism alone. Too much investment $$ in QB's to allow an inexperienced OL to protect them.

Go Cards!!!
