The Cardinals have already clinched the NFC West (obviously!).
To clinch a first-round bye next week:
ARI win or tie

To stay alive for the 1-seed after next week:
ARI win + CRL loss

It's really a simple set of scenarios that remain. Here's another way to look at it. For the Cardinals to clinch a first-round bye, we will need any ONE of the following:

ARI over GB (or tie)
OR ARI over SEA (or tie)
OR MIN over GB (or tie)

For the Cardinals to earn the 1-seed and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs, we need to win out and have the Panthers lose out. We need ALL of the following (no ties):

ARI over GB
AND ATL over CRL
AND ARI over SEA
AND TB over CRL

Should be...

1 - CAR
2 - AZ
3 - GB
4 - NFCE
5 - SEA
6 - MIN

R1 -
SEA @ NFCE = @ CAR
MIN @ GB = @ AZ

This only holds true if Minnesota doesn't get the upset in the WC round against GB. If they get that upset than we would be left with the winner of Seattle/NFCE in the 2nd round.

Correct. Lowest remaining seed plays the #1 seed. Minnesota beating Green Bay is the only scenario that would cause the winner of SEA/NFC East to come to Arizona.

I don't think Carolina is going to lose a regular season game this year. Heck, the last time they played ATL they whupped them 38-0.

I believe one thing is incorrect...in order to get the first round bye if we lose to the Packers, we would need to beat seattle AND have GB lose to minnesota.

Negative, the Packers can't get better than 12-4 and another win for the Cards puts them at 13-3. So all the Cards would need to do with a loss to the Pack is to then beat Seattle in week 17.

Another piece to the playoff scenario puzzle. As I see it, IF the Cardinals do not get the bye (and thus become the 3-seed), their first round opponent HAS to be Minnesota as the 6-seed, no matter what else happens (can't be Seattle). Here is how:

To lose the bye, ARI has to lose out (12-4) and GB has to win out and win the North (12-4), giving MIN one more loss (9-6 plus unknown results vs NYG). Also with ARI losing out, SEA is guaranteed at least one more win (10-5 plus unknown results vs STL). Since SEA has the head-to-head tie-breaker over MIN, and there is no chance for a 3-way, there is no way MIN can pass the Seahawks for the 5-seed. The seeding HAS to be:

1-CRL
2-GB
3-ARI
4-NFCE
5-SEA
6-MIN

At least this would save any hand-wringing about having to play Seattle in back-to-back weeks. Note, ATL would be eliminated in this scenario as they couldn't catch MIN without SEA in a 3-way tie at 9-7.
