If Jonah is done, that puts Josh Simmons in play for round 1. That's if he wasn't already in play.

I had the Cardinals taking Simmons in my way too early offseason plan with the #16 overall pick, assuming that Simmons drops that far. The thought of having a pair of young stud bookends in place for several years to come is very tempting.

You have to protect your most valuable asset, the franchise QB. Whether that ends up being Murray or some other young QB of the future.

I read that yesterday and the headline, or the actual article, makes no sense.

What signs? The article says if he's cut he has a $13m dead cap and at best (but likely not) might save $3m.

That's not a sign, if that's a sign then everyone is getting cut. You don't cut highly paid FA signings a year in without a significant cap saving. Especially one that played well when available, and when your swing backup might not return.

Making him a Post June 1st cut would open up $10M for this years cap. But then the Cardinals would have a massive hole at RT. So it still doesn't make much sense.

As I mentioned before, I have the Cardinals selecting Simmons with the 16th overall pick to be the heir apparent when Williams becomes a FA after next season. It makes more sense to bring a young player along slowly in his rookie season instead of throwing him straight into the fire. With the Cardinals needing to make a playoff push next year, solely relying on a rookie starting at RT would be very risky. Which is why I would let Williams finish out his contract. Plus then you could get a potential comp pick when Williams becomes a FA in 2026.

I struggle with the idea of taking Simmons over Grant, Green and Nolen, maybe Pearce. I don't like that he is coming off a knee injury. His best traits (movement) seem better suited for the left side. I just don't see him as a better prospect or better fit for the Cardinals than the potential defensive options.

two years in a row and late in the season, you lose starting caliber tackles to serious knee injuries that wipe them out for the following season

I hope Monti hasn't learned nothing about his defensive failures in FA and the draft and decides to match need to availability and does the smart thing: drafting defense.

Injuries just can’t be accounted for. Crap shoot. Only time I may consider blaming a GM for injuries is if they sign someone that already has a LENGTHY history of proving they can’t stay in the field. Jonah clearly doesn’t fall into that category.

If he's so injured that he may not play much, or at all, next season...the massive hole is already there.

Didn't we have a rookie RT take a poo ton of the starting snaps just this past season?
The fact the offense still functioned and kyler stayed off ir is an indicator that a first round pick is not required to address the situation
