Deone on the Goat list and not Powers?

Did we watch the same game yesterday?

I agree with Bettcher on the Goat list, have not been impressed with him so far. However, the other two guys are kind of reaching for straws. Deone was all over the place and had several nice open field tackles along the edge on dump offs

I'm sure Deone graded out poorly based on FO's flawed metrics, which was what led to the Goat status. Deone, I thought, had a really good game yessterday.

However, Powers was abused yesterday. Even Honey Badger got beaten on some plays. Additionally, Bettcher was not a Goat. His defense allowed 17 points, 10 of which were in garbage time.

K9 needs an editor for his Hero/Goat segment.

Dont seem to find myself agreeing with goats lately.

Catman did great, the only kick that wasnt real deep was due to a celebration penalty. A stat they showed early in the game is he is in the top 5 in the league on kickoffs.

The DC is going through learning pains and hasnt been nails but his D ate the lions alive yesterday.

Finally, Bucannon had 11 tackles yesterday. Not sure what else we could ask for.

I will admit though, I have trouble finding goats on this game outside of Powers. Powers has been abused the past 2 weeks. The offense was on point as was the D. Not a lot of bad things really happened save our first few drives not going anywhere.

I almost gave Arians a goat because I want him to give the ball to Chris Johnson on one of these red-zone carries. Sucks for CJ to run the ball exceptionally well from the 20 to the 10 and then get pulled before he can put it in paydirt.

To be fair, he did pull himself after the 40 yard scamper. He still isn't quite in football shape, or this is just the cost of a 30 year RB after breaking a long run :)

Deone had some excellent wrap up tackles yesterday and was all over the field. In fact there was a series where they threw two short passes over the middle and Buchanon blew up both plays with great 1 on 1 tackles.

Were any kickoffs brought out yesterday besides the one that started on the 20 yard line because of the celebration penalty?

I thought they were consistently going out the back of the end zone for the most part. (EDIT: the fumble play was brought out, duh)

Nevermind. Went back on game replay. There were a few returns. Our kick coverage sucks in general but at least we are aided by lots of holding penalties so far.

Abdullah had a 41-yard return to the 33 that was fumbled in the 2nd.

Also in the 4th, Detroit had a 34 yard return after the Ellington TD.

Been saying this since game 1, that our complete lack of a pass rush will one day - soon - cause us bigtime issues.
Okafor will now miss games (we'll soon hear how many) and he wasn't performing anywhere near his level of last season.

Further compounding this issue is that BOTH Powers and Honey Badger are showing holes in their coverage capability. I can see guys like Russell Wilson, Aaron Rogers, Andy Dalton and even Joe Flacco ripping our secondary to shreds as they will have the time to do so.

Chris Johnson, RB

Before this week, Chris Johnson was 16th in VOA and 10th in Success Rate. That second number is even more important, because it means that 53% of the time CJ1K is keeping Palmer and the offense on schedule for a first down. It’s been a long time since the Cardinals have seen that kind of consistency from the running game.
This is why last week's decision to pass 3 times at 2nd and 2 makes me want to pull what little hair I have left out. Give it to CJ and let him pound out 2 yards and get a first down!

Agree. I was hoping he would get the ball when we were on the 2 so he could get a TD. Icing on the cake for working so hard.

the long kick return and fumble was after a celebration penalty and we kicked from the 20.

He pulled himself out of the game, unless you are talking about the pass to FitzG.

The run where DJ got the ball on the 2 or 3 yard line right after CJ got us to that point. He pulled himself out of the game? Wasn't aware of that

Yes, he motioned to the sideline to be replaced.

the long kick return and fumble was after a celebration penalty and we kicked from the 20.

I actually pulled that one out:

Chandler Catanzaro kicks off 65 yards, touchback

Chandler Catanzaro kicks off 65 yards, touchback

[DJ's TD]

Chandler Catanzaro kicks off 73 yards, returned by Ameer Abdullah for 41 yards (tackle by Stepfan Taylor). Ameer Abdullah fumbles, ball out of bounds at DET-33. ARI challenged the loose ball recovery ruling, and the play was upheld.

Chandler Catanzaro kicks off 65 yards, touchback

[Brown's TD and penalty]

Chandler Catanzaro kicks off 69 yards, returned by T.J. Jones for 62 yards (tackle by Jerraud Powers). Penalty on Brandon Copeland: Offensive Holding, 10 yards

Chandler Catanzaro kicks off 65 yards, touchback

[Ellington's TD]

Chandler Catanzaro kicks off 65 yards, returned by T.J. Jones for 34 yards (tackle by Stepfan Taylor)

I deleted yesterdays game from my DVR, so I can't go back to check; but, I remember being surprised that the lions were bringing so many kick-offs out from deep in the endzone.

I'm guessing teams think our Kick-off coverage is poor, so they are taking their chances on longer returns.

Can't say that I disagree with them either. That is the one area under BA that has been much worse that KW.

I agree if I remember correctly the opening kickoff the guy returning it stepped out of the back of the end zone but he was on his way out of the end zone.

Once a team gets behind in a game like yesterday afternoon's game they basically have no choice but to try to bring out anything that is semi returnable.

It's tough to cover kicks-offs, especially when you have to do it 6-7 times in a game. Guys get tired. If another team wants to identify this as a weekness and try to exploit it, then so be it.

I'll take kicking off 6-7 times a game and giving up 2-3 decent returns over kicking off 3-4 times a game and giving up none anyday.
