This is something that hits me in a very personal place. I have practiced yoga for 4+ years and was by far the best thing I have ever done for my body.
Throw out the spiritual, political, and stereotypical views of yoga, and just look at it for the physical benefits and it is rejuvenate exercise. Meaning it repairs your body.
You become stronger in a way that is hard to explain, but your strength increases. It allows you to breath better, and be more flexible.
I would recommend it to just about everyone, and would go as far as to say it is a requirement for anyone with a chronic physical ailment.
After rugby my left shoulder was shot, couldn't lift it above my head, but post yoga I have full motion and strength.
Yes, it was weird being a 295lbs ex-rugby player in a yoga studio looking like a dancing bear, but now it feels weird not to be practicing when I can.......not to mention I am now 230lbs and yoga has been a HUGE help in that weight loss as well.
PS - Advice: 1. Go to a knowledgeable and experienced yoga studio. 2. NEVER try to push your limits in yoga, you do what you can and improvement is a process. It is not a competition.
