For the Josh Naylor-as-a-1B-replacement-crowd: I’m indifferent. Yes, the power is there. So is the slugging. Doesn’t even strike out much
What I don’t like: Expiring deal after ‘25. You’re going to have to pay him ~12-13M in 2025. 0 OAA, 0 Runs Prevented defensively last year.

Well the offense is on par with Walkers. No one is on par defensively so if he can be average to a little above average then this could be ok.

His offensive production is about the same as Walker's with fewer strikeouts, Walker gets the edge on defense obviously.

Still, a bargain for an All-Star 1st baseman.

He also could be DH'ing for us.

L - Carroll
S - Marte
R - Gurriel
L - Naylor
R - Suarez
1b or dh L
R - Gabby
L - Perdomo

Joc would be awesome to get back

Edit: Someone either McCarthy or Thomas will be in there too.

Feels to me like this is a stop-gap, IF there is someone down in the farm that can be ready to go in ‘26? I’m not aware of anyone though…but I gotta believe Hazen didn’t grab Naylor to pay him some obscene annual salary on a 5-6 year deal.

Still believe one of those two, either Thomas or McCarthy, will be jettisoned before opening day.

Mike Hazen on Naylor -fits in the middle of lineup, has thump, good makeup and likes the fit in Dbacks clubhouse. “getting this move done and this position settled down helps us sharpen our focus in making the team better… still have a lot of work to do”

This move by Hazen is so top tier. This upcoming draft kind of stinks. You already get a bonus pick from the Walker signing so the competitive balance pick is just okay. Your #9 SP was a marginal asset.

At WORST it's a Qualifying Offer and another end of the first round pick. At best, you just got your 1B in his prime for the next 5 years
