Wow thats alot more then what I thought. Thats even with a 9.5 cao hit this year Joe?

Yeah. Think about it. We used the extra 7.5 we got from the new CBA plus another 2 mill. to sign Edge.

Which pretty much means the Cards original FA plan is still intact except for Kosier.

Plus I still havent taken off Jeremy Bridges off of my cap sheet yet after we just found out he was not tendered an offer after all. Plus a few other things.

But not the roster bonus.

I think roster bonuses are just lkike mini-signing bonuses in the middle of the conrtact. You get a 6 mil bonus with 3 years left, it adds 2 mil per year from that bonus. It jumps the cap number, keeping the garaunteed money down up front and forcing the team to make a choice, but it is prorated.

Without updating my spreadsheet and just looking at all of the numbers that have come across the wire since I last updated it, I would estimate that we still have 8-10 Mill. more to spend. And that is without any cuts or restructures.

That is still plenty left to still be major players for another major FA and still sign 3-4 other mid tier guys if done right.

Yeah, not to mention Shipp (may have just lost his job) and restructuring Davis.

After all the rookies, warner, EFA, RFA, practice squad and the new CBA, the figure was :

Cap Space Available (using 102 Mill.) - $21,481,833

So, the Cards have $6M left to spend on free agents. Plus several of those mentioned players will be cut.

If they are putting money into this cap year (the Edge roster bonus), instead of trying to save cap space, it is unlikely they will restructure L.Davis to save cap space. Instead, they will probably wait until later in the season and see his play. Then extend him or not based on his play.

i am not going worry about the cap. what good is it to have cap space if you don't use it. getting a player like james is well worth it. spend that money if it improves the team. let get some more players.

Remember when Murrell came here. Our OLine was awful yet he still managed over 1000 yds, James is light years beyond Murrell in terms of talent. If Murrell can get 1,000 yds behind that line with Jake Plummer at QB and Sanders & Moore at WR(who while good aren't Boldin & Fitz) I see no reason James doesn't get a minimum 1,300 yds.

The OLine does need work but a smart RB can still produce for this offense.

I agree. As someone else stated on another thread EG already makes the OL better. Not to mention our D too.

So true... we can ball control a drive when we need to and protect a lead.

it has been a while, but even more sad than that is that was the last time the cardinals went to the playoffs. 1998. it has been a long time. let go cardinals. get to the playofffs. make us fans that been around for 30 or more years proud that we stay loyal through the years.

Exactly. The D may not be on the field nearly as much this year. Plus we still have the quick-strike capabality in our O if we should fall behind.

Not so fast.

Running backs tend to have short shelf lives and are prone to injuries. You can never have too many good RB's (and having Marcel to back up Edge with Arrington available in a spot role is not a bad idea).

Not a bad idea, but we need a RB who can help us on ST. We can ill afford not to have ST improvement, and arrington has no ST value, Edge better not play, so we make Marcel cover kicks? Also, Edge was often taken out on GL situations in Indy. I propose we still need a bruiser, and Marcel is not a bruiser.

I completely disagree--Shipp is gone. I wouldn't be surprised if we drafted a mid round rookie RB or signed a mid-tier RB (like Bennett) but Shipp will not be on the Cardinals this season.

Brilliant, brilliant, BRILLIANT structuring of a contract! I kept harping on about making the cap number smaller in year one, but with the CBA extension, it became a much better idea to have the big hit come this year.

We're currently 67 million BELOW next year's cap number, btw!!!
