I remember Walter talked about giving him a shot at LT, but what about RT? Does Wells have the strangth to go against the bigger/stronger LDE's?

How about this line?

LT- Davis
LG-Lutui (sp?)
C-Step/Leckey
RG-Milton Brown/Elton Brown
RT-Wells

thoughts? Is this idea crazy enough to work, or should i go to the top of a tall biluding?

I'd like to see them try it out. That's all I can really say. I haven't been up to TC yet so I have no idea how the rest of the OLine is working out.

I'd like to see them keep Wells and Davis together. They've played together for a few years now and I'd hate to break up that side of the line. Plus Lutui is still just a rookie and isn't ready to step in and be a starter.

Have the coaches ever said anything about Wells being a tackle, or is that just a hope and dream of ours?

He played LT in the season finale one or two years ago. Held Simeon Rice to 0 sacks...

There is no one to fill in at LG even if the coaches did consider him at RT. It looks like Lutui is not ready.

I LIKE the prospects of Wells at RT a lot...

It would be interesting to try Deuce there too, seeing as he played a very good RT his junior season at USC.

Ross' injury (and poor play last year) is exactly why I and other have been bemoaning the no T additions on the roster this season...it's mystifying...and downright negligent.

I'd like to see them implode everything, heck try Big at center for all I care just improve this mess.

This could be great if it forces Deuce into playing I like it, just put wells over there and insert Deuce and go with it, you've got all of camp to let them get used to each other then have at it, we are starting from the bottom, gotta start climbing somewhere.

Redsz: Let the games begin...the real players show up when the lights are on. I will bet you that we will all be high on Deuce in the next few weeks.

I'd rather have a stronger run blocker than Wells at RT.

Whatever we do, I'm a big proponent of setting up a 3+ deep depth chart at each O-line position and not switching guys around to different positions when someone gets injured.

It is essential that each guy feel comfortable both with his own role and knowing what to expect from the guys on either side of him. Best way to do this to adopt a "move up one" at each slot philosophy.

It's more important to have a cohesive unit on the field than "the best five guys who happen to be available that week."

I hope so, Mitch. But I'm just going on what has been put out there by observers so far. I hope Deuce proves me wrong.

I totally agree with you, Jeff. We have to see these guys play well as a unit because we need a good line - not just a good player at one postion.

My guess is they move nobody during camp to try to build some cohesion on the rest of the line and hope Ross is gone for only a month and won't miss a game. Bad gamble. Sign somebody or shuffle, but a converted DT and a guard playing RT are gonna cost us at some point.

I don't get that. Even the bigger DEs are 285 and less. DTs average 300+. I think Wells, being a weak run blocker, would far better as a RT and LG. How big are the LDEs in the NFC West? I know leonard Little lives up to his name, he's only about 250.

this is a good point. I think the hawks have a big LDE (forgot his name). not sure about the lambs. I think we would be better with Wells at RT and Lutui at LG than with Wells at LG and Wakefield at RT.

Doesn't make that big of a difference. Wakefield is a good pass-blocker. It's his run-blocking that the problem (like Wells), so exchanging him with Wells doesn't change anything IMO.
