I finished the first one (took me a LOOOONG time to get into it) and a bit into the second one.

I really only like the Glotka character.

That was my main problem. I didn't particularly like any of the characters. I agree Glotka was the most interesting, with Logen a close 2nd. But none were ones I really cared for. And the enemies weren't fleshed out at all.

Took me awhile to get into it too. I read the first few chapters of the first book and then probably didn't pick it up again for 3-4 weeks just because it hadn't grabbed my interest. The only reason I kept going was because I'd heard good things about it.

Man, that's almost identical to my approach, but it took about 8 weeks until I picked it up and finished it again.

Did you read the Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss? Far, far superior.

The Jack Reacher series. I'm on book number two. I have a feeling I'll be plowing through all 19 of 'em in succession.

Starting book three.

These are Popcorn Novels. Just sit back, suspend belief and enjoy the effing ride.

If anyone likes the works of George RR Martin I would suggest you try The Acacia Trilogy by David Anthony Durham (Acacia, The Other Lands, and The Sacred Band). The author creates a fabulous epic with a deep world history, profound societal issues, and rich character development.

I just picked up King Rat by China Mieville through Amazon recommendations and am about a quarter of the way done. It seems to be very much like a Neil Gaiman story, with a magical world in a modern setting.

I didn't become a Cards fan till they hit Arizona. I just assumed this (TwoCardsOneCup) was a comment about the days when the Bidwills were so cheap the players had to share gear?

From what I've heard, there's no way I'm going to watch it.

Okay, I looked it up. I'm with you. All I can say is, I'm glad I'd already finished my lunch before reading about it. I like the idea of experimentation and I'm all for doing whatever it takes to make you happy and fulfilled but there are lines. That is so far over my line I just don't know what to say.

Thank you. It is just a description of how I feel like when the Cardinals have the ball.

Never thought of it that way so I guess my name works on a couple levels.

Editorial Reviews
From Booklist
Setting out to write about the virtues of modern man (the author calls him Homo masculinus modernus), McAllister, a paleoanthropologist, was chagrined to discover that “from battling to boozing, babes to bravado, there’s nothing we can do that ancient men, and sometimes women, haven’t already done better, faster, stronger, and usually smarter.” But why is this? Well, to put it bluntly—and the author is certainly blunt—the modern male is an inferior species, “the worst man in history.” Physically he is weaker (the strongest modern arm wrestler would be easily beaten by a Neanderthal girl). Intellectually, he is less nimble (the cleverest freestyle rapper would be humbled by the memory feats of the ancient poets). Even narcissistically, he pales by comparison to his ancestors (the modern metrosexual seems positively bland compared to, say, the dandies of the mid-eighteenth century, or the males of a certain British Columbian indigenous tribe. Using evidence from a variety of disciplines—archaeology, linguistics, physiology—McAllister has produced a book that is informative, surprising, and, yes, quite humbling, at least for males. --David Pitt

It was an amusing read. He makes quite an argument of how wimpy we are compared to our ancestors. It got a little silly towards the end and it seemed like he was reaching for material to fill out the book though.

Benjamin Franklin: An American Life by Walter Isaacson

About a fifth of the way through it and still having trouble getting into the book. I think I will, at some point, read Franklins autobiography and some of his other writings but this book just isn't doing it for me.

I recently finished a few books. All faith-based, Plan B by Pete Wilson. Amazing book. Greater Works by Smith Wigglesworth. This guy was an amazing man of God. Battlefield of the Mind by Joyce Meyer. All of these books were great spiritual growth books.

Guys, have you all read our own Jeff the Shark, or JTS's book?

https://www.amazon.com/gp/pdp/profile/A3E6E71PG4SLV6?ie=UTF8&*Version*=1&*entries*=0

I reviewed it on Amazon, he sent me the book and i was like, well that's really cool, great to know an author even in passing but I'm a picky reader and it wasn't the kind of book I'd normally pick out for myself but, HOLY COW!

He's really good!

I was amazed and astounded that we have someone like that posting on this site, you guys should check it out!

I'm a picky reader, don't normally like much of anything from new authors, I was frankly floored.

Well worth the time to support one of our own, I promise you, you will not be dissapointed.

Read it, it's awesome.

I'm currently slogging through the Jack Reacher books...still total popcorn novels but fun and fast reads. I am on either 8 or 9, I forgot. Also re-reading Great Gatsby, and a little bit into Night Circus.

Also delving into the New Testament a bit, recently. Mostly the Gospels and Acts.

ADD is kicking in big time. :)

The Perfume Alibi, it's not really my top of book but I still enjoyed it immensely. If you like mystery thrillers you'll love this story and if you don't, you'll still be left anticipating his next book. Don't buy it because it was written by one of our own, buy it because you know how to read.

You guys are making me blush - thanks so much for the kind words and support. The encouragement I have received on this board is both overwhelming and greatly appreciated.

I hope to have the next installment out soon (of course, I've said that before :) ) The next one is called The Ice Cream Shoppe and will continue the saga of Del and Albert (Neal - now) as the unusual contract killers deal with surfers, porn stars and terrorists in sunny southern California. It should be fun (if you like that kind of thing :D ) Thanks again!

I meant to PM you I finished it about a month ago. I started it, went on vacation and then picked it back up when we got back. Because of that I had some continuity issues where I couldn't quite remember what was what and had to go back.

But I did like it, I loved how you kept tying it back into the Cars song and how the characters got themselves in and out of situations. I'd find myself thinking "that's silly nobody would do that" and then a few pages(Kindle so not really pages) later I'd say well when you put it that way it actually makes sense they'd do that.

Definite thumbs up and I'll definitely read the sequel.

I'm reading another Dirk Pitt novel now. I read a Sci Fi book, your book and now Clive Cussler like to mix things up.
