What can we expect with Leftwich as OC?

Considering that Arians brought him in, will he run a similar offense? I just refuse to watch anything that resembles a dink & dunk offense. Has anyone heard what changes he’ll make?

The offense that's already here isn't necessarily dink and dunk. Even if they just kept the scheme that McCoy had and called the plays differently it could be productive. I mean, there were glimpses of what it could be at times but they'd always just revert to conservative and predictable.

I. Curious to see who leftwich turns too? Bet he calls BA and Goodwin for advice.

There is not enough time to create a new playbook or for the players to memorize/be familiar with a new scheme/terminology. It will be like changing the defense from a 3-4 to a 4-3 over the weekend.

All Leftwich has to do is not be a moron. If there are 8 defenders in the box, don’t run up the middle!

Don’t know what happened to Goodwin, he had an interview in 2017 only to have Bettcher become BA’s boy at the end of the season.

Leftwich went from intern to OC in 3 years. Expect very little and you won’t be disappointed.
Yeah, that's a pretty short resume' to now being a coordinator. It's hard not to be skeptical about his chances for success.

2016 Intern
2017 QB's coach
2018 QB's coach/Offensive Coordinator

I know you already said that but when you look at it listed out, it's all the more jarring IMO. If he's moving up the ranks on merit, more power to him. It's just as easy to assume nepotism.

Mediocrity.
Now that would be a vast improvement considering the mess McCoy has created.

Of course he will use Mike McCoy's playbook, if only to keep the verbiage in place. The issue wasn't the playbook, but the selection of plays aka play calling. The offense will look different with Leftwich calling different plays and certainly adding some new wrinkles. You can bet that BA is still in his hear, and Leftwich will appreciate his mentor's opinion. Perfect situation for Leftwich to make a name for himself, since he has no way to go but up with how bad this offense has looked.

Not sure what he is going to be able to do, other than being a little more risky with the play calling and trying some different things in the run game instead of slamming DJ up the middle 3 times and punting.

I would not expect much, not much at all.

Hope to see some more creativity. However, have low expectations based on the porous offensive line.

Cards social put this up as if it were a good thing. Can anyone remember when Leftwich would have tutored a young QB? Even during his time in Pittsburgh?

He can't change the entire offensive package however he can start to add new wrinkles and switch personnel to different spots. For example there may be a set of plays for a certain player to be in the slot, he can switch that person to be DJ. There are things he can do to elevate this offense into a somewhat respectable level as long as he has the freedom and the ability to do so.

I would think most of the offense would remember some of the plays from the BA era if he wanted to bring some of them back...
