The Suns are looking horrible right now. I think they will get better over time this year. That pick might have its greatest value right now. Teams really pay a premium for potential. I am not totally committing to this, its a judgment call.

This is true but I'm not sure if teams are going to bail on good players right now.

However, I wouldn't be afraid to make a trade for the right player providing he is under a multi-year contract. Also if the Suns make a trade now, their draft pick is likely not to be as good.

It all depends upon the player who is available in trade. Like you say, it's a judgment call.

Another thing. If the Suns traded for a prominent player now or at the trade deadline, they may be more attractive to a better free agent.

That's the thing. We really don't know when the pick will have the most value but I can't think of a player that might be available right now that is in our price range and is worth that pick.

i'd prefer to replace our coaching and mgmt first
because that effects our player's development
but that's probably not an option right now

Such beautiful formatting. If e e cummings wrote about basketball, it would look like this.

I can't either unless it's someone like John Wall. His salary is a problem though.

We're in such dire straits that we clearly can't afford to be picky but even given that, I wouldn't touch Wall for any reason. And it's not just his paycheck; it's his ego, his bad knees, his lack of leadership and his horrible efficiency that would turn me off even at a fraction of his salary.

This was one of my concerns about Bledsoe as well. We need to keep looking.

From what I understand, I wouldn't have any interest in Rozier. I'm not convinced he's more than a role player but even if he is, his apparent salary expectations are far loftier than they should be.

His salary expectations can be whatever he chooses, but he would have to find a team willing to meet them. Even then, we would have the right to match because he'd be a restricted free agent.

We need to start adding talent to this roster (in addition to Booker & Ayton) and I think Rozier would be a good start.

There is no shortage of teams willing to gamble like that but we've already donated to several retirement funds so I'm feeling less charitable than usual.

I guess if the basketball minds are convinced he's the real deal, it wouldn't hurt to inquire but I have serious doubts about his ceiling. Removed from Brad Stevens control, I think Terry eventually becomes a poor man's Eric Bledsoe. He doesn't have the knee and agent problems but he's just not worth the 20 Million plus he's reportedly seeking IMO.

I agree about the ceiling. I just don't see many other viable options. If another team is willing to offer $20m maybe we should consider it. I don't know many teams that are as desperate as us for a PG.

The rebuild has not " just begun" it's getting to the point where something needs to happen.

This draft isn't close to the last 2. You don't need more rookies on this team.

Who would you rather have Josh Jackson or Kyrie? Or Josh Jackson for Porzingas? Because both those deals were on the table for that pick and change.

Now at the time I said no way Josh Jackson is going to be a star, guess what? HE SUCKS.

If we traded for Kyrie we wouldn't have Ayton though.

The Porzingis rumor was a bluff by Phil Jackson to put Porzingis in his place. The bluff backfired and Jackson was canned, but the deal was never going to happen.

Can't say that.

I really don't think that JJ deal was any more than rumor but I do think Phil was seriously considering trading Porzingis. There were already warning signs about his long term health and then the issues dealing with him and his brother. But Phil probably couldn't make the trade unless it was a real sweetheart deal and that would require far more than Jackson. Maybe Jackson and at least 3 unprotected firsts?

McD had a disturbing history of buying high and selling low. The last thing we need to do is panic and revisit the Knight situation. We need to target stars that are disgruntled that would compliment Book/Ayton or prospects buried on the bench. As another poster mentioned, Delon Wright fits right into the latter and would be a good pick up. (as to the former, Jimmy Butler actually would fit next to them if we could trade our stable of SFs, but we have such a toxic image that he won't want to come here).

As to the OP, there isn't a SINGLE sensible trade that would involve our 1st rounder. Either the teams would never trade their star (Lillard) or the value of the player that would be available wouldn't come close to the value of our pick (Dinwiddie). There just isn't a market out there.

Truth is: we're stuck.

Here's what I know. We absolutely HAVE to trade 1 of these 4 SFs: JJ, Bridges, Warren, or Ariza. We'll never get the value of JJ back so I see no sense in trading him low. Bridges might still have trade value but I honestly like him best of the bunch. He's the perfect 3D wing to compliment Book. Ariza is a rental. That leaves us with Warren again. He's a good player with a good contract.

Besides looking into Wright, I'd also call the Nets again and revisit a Dinwiddie trade. I'm sure they could be convinced to part with their backup PG if we make it lucrative enough. Plus, they are hurting at SF right now (Dudley is starting next to Harris), so Warren could be useful to them. It would reduce our constipation at SF and give us a productive PG. We just need a competent FO member to make it happen.

I don't know about you all, but even talking about this makes me depressed. Thanks to Sarver, we are always trading from a position of desperation. And so we are stuck re-drudging the same old potential trades that will barely make us much better. It really sucks to be an AZ sports fan right now.

You have to at least explore trading the pick. As someone else said, we need to start getting better now. We can't keep pushing the rebuild back and back. Another rookie is now what's needed.

The pick would become worse than a top 3 picknif we improve now. I honestly think we're very close to being able to make a big jump.

Also, you add in somebody now who improves the team and we're definitely going to look more attractive next summer in FA.

Haven't we actually done the opposite? A few years ago when the front office finally decided to actually do a full rebuild instead of the continual patch jobs, they set the "compete" goal for the 2020 season I believe. They abandoned the timeline after Booker's comments about wanting to make the playoffs although knowing how Sarver works that might have just been a convenient excuse.

If we trade our first round pick with no protection and it isn't for... Lillard... I may go burn down the arena.

I think Kemba Walker is a great player but no way I'd trade top value for a dude that is going to explore the free agent market in 8 months. If it is January and we're playing a lot better despite bad PG play, a record of like... 17-25, then I'd look at trading for Walker, but if we're still looking like a bottom 5 team it would be idiotic.

I do think that, health willing, this team is going to start playing better. They need to keep playing the offense as designed and get better at knowing where the opportunities are created. We also had one of the nastiest early season schedules in the league.

I'm talking about on here. Some seem happy to keep drafting for the future. Were closer now than people think imo.

Haven't we been in the lottery for the better part of a decade? The losing is taking a toll on fans and players. To draft another guy next year that takes another year or two to maybe pan out is insane in my opinion.

This team has made far too many mistakes in the draft and currently has more than enough inexperienced guys. We need a known commodity in his mid to late 20's that can contribute in a big way right now. Either a PF or PG

Kemba Walker would be great. Waiting to sign him next year is also a crap shoot since we can't seem to attract FA.

The team is going to have to roll the dice and go for it at some point and now is the time with Ayton and Booker.

You also hope that the guy we trade for helps win a few games moving our pick back a bit.

Trading our pick unprotected should get the league to step in and remove Sarver. I know it won't but we can hope. They stepped in and forced Hinkie out in Philadelphia. Maybe they can do something similar with Sarver in terms of him setting a budget and then not having any say in the team. He'll get his money and that's it. He deserves no accolades for us winning and no longer gets blamed for our losing. That's wishful thinking but trading an unprotected 1st of our own would be idiotic if we didn't get a true All-Star in return, not a fringe All-Star like Kemba who wouldn't be considered if he played in the West. Lillard or bust basically since Westbrook, Curry, Harden, Chris Paul, and Kyrie aren't being dealt.

I like the idea of contacting the Nets in a trade and they would be a team I would look into offering the right to swap picks with us, which might be enticing to the right team. With the Nets, it would still be a lottery pick but they would get the best one possible and that might be enough to get them to make a move. It's not a pick outright, perhaps the Bucks pick could be used with something like that. Delon Wright is another player I think we should look at. Toronto won't be able to pay him this offseason. They probably won't do a deal until later but I think someone like Troy Daniels could provide value to a playoff team looking to add some bench scoring and shooting. Daniels and the Bucks pick should be something that someone would bite on.

Every one of Chandler, Ariza, Anderson, Daniels, King, Okobo, Melton, Bender, and everyone outside of Booker, Ayton, and Bridges should be shopped. I don't care about attracting free agents this summer if we can land a player that makes sense here for us. There are a ton of PG's with expiring deals so that makes that a little harder but if we have bird rights that would make a difference with a number of them. I would also try to get Indiana to part with Cory Joseph or Darren Collison. With Oladipo and Tyreke Evans there they don't need a backup PG as bad they need some quality wing depth. We have a lot of wings that could help there. I would prefer to wait before trading Warren because I think his value will increase when it's clear he's not just knocking down 3's now because he's hot but that's something added to his game.

I'd still say they could swap barring it being the #1 overall pick. If we somehow landed that, I would rather see it traded than kept to add another player. Think back to the talk last year of what teams might part with for the #1 overall pick to take Ayton, or even Doncic. Even the year before the Celtics got a good haul for trading down to #3, snagging some future lottery picks in the process. I think Zion will probably be the #1 overall pick but he's got a pretty high bust potential, IMO.

So you're in favor of it?

That's tough. Give up the potential #1 pick to get rid of Sarver? I worry about who would end with the team after the fact but I think I would do that and hope we don't get moved to Seattle by the new owner.
