Remember a little over 2 years ago? We had a new coaching staff: head coach Steve Wilks, offensive coordinator Mike McCoy, defensive coordinator Al Holcomb and special teams coordinator Jeff Rodgers. We had a new future franchise QB: Josh Rosen. We were starting anew in building the future of the Cards. But wait, stop the presses. Just a few months later:

1. We fired our new head coach, along with his coordinators. Which many were strongly opposed to. Some simply thinking we needed to give that coach more time and more of a chance. Some thinking his firing might even have some racial overtones.

2. We brought in a new young inexperienced coach who didn't even have a winning record in college. The backlash was huge, with most questioning the logic in this.

3. We argued over who we should take in the draft, as usual. But this time having even more implications. About half of the fans thought it insane to take a 2nd QB in 2 years with our first round pick, not to mention what would appear to be the total unknown future of Josh Rosen, if we did that.

4. Then not only did we take the 'mini'-QB in the draft, we then went ahead and gave our #1 QB pick from the previous year away to the Dolphins, which many thought totally wrong to do, and if not that, was at least short sighted in doing it when we did and not getting enough for him.

Throughout all the changes and reversal of direction, many thought our GM must go, with many thinking our owner had lost control, if not touch with reality regarding our GM.

Well, now 2 years later, with our new coaches, new QB and other new players our GM acquired via trades, draft, and FA, totally new direction, not to mention what one might call totally new football philosophy, things look quite different than any reality, or even vision of the future, we all had at the beginning of the 2018 season.

So seriously, what can we learn from all of this? Have a go at this ?, in relation to yourself, all us fans, or simply in general. Let's see where it takes us.

Patients.

we hired the wrong guys then got rid of those guys as soon as it became clear. That’s what good organizations do. The bad ones just keep being bad.

there’s no such thing as a magic wand that can fix all your problems at once.

doesn’t matter this team go 16-0 and win it and some guys here will never be happy. It’s just how it is

just reading Mike McCoys name makes me want to puke. although his stone-age run scheme broke David Johnson and secured us the #1 pick.

in hindsight, maybe we should thank Mr. McCoy for Kyler and Dhop!

Its like a bad relationship, no point in prolonging the inevitable.
People with initiative and drive will most of the time outperform the stubborn and experienced.

Wilks might have interviewed great and has charisma, but was completely inept as a HC along with his coordinators.

Rosen was trap. We needed a QB and we drafted him as a need.

I can't believe I actually read all of that lol. Too much typing for such a simple rhetorical question.

I waited quite awhile before visiting this thread because I know Sissy's work pretty well. Then read the first paragraph and new it was time to move on.

Lessons learned:

1. change or die. Not only did they get rid of a coach and staff that were in over their heads, they got rid of an antiquated “style” of football that Wilks & co. represented.

Keim saw where the league was heading with the success of young, innovative offensive playcallers like McVay & Shanahan and followed his conviction by hiring Kliff...It’s all too tempting to play it safe and hire retreads like Rivera or McCarthy, but as they say, the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

2. Go all in when you have a talented quarterback on his rookie contract. The huge deals for players like Budda, Hopkins, and Phillips caused many to claim they were overpaid...However I believe securing this kind of talent for the immediate future while your QB is affordable is the easiest blueprint for keeping your championship “window” open.

3. We must refuse to sign free agents with an injury history. From Andre Smith, to Sam Bradford, to Robert Alford, to Marcus Gilbert...The risk/reward is simply not worth it.

Josh being mediocre at best made the decision easy.

Add to that you wouldn’t even consider strapping Kyler with a defensive minded coach like Wilks.

And wilks made it easy because he sucked.

So what did we learn? NEVER pass up a dynamic double threat qb when you get the chance to draft one... unless you already have one!
