What do you think Drew Stanton can realistically do if we get the best out of him?

I seriously doubt he'll be a multiple-time Pro Bowler, or even make one.

However, I could see him backing us into the playoffs with adequate play and middling statistics if he limits mistakes. I don't mean that for this year, of course, but maybe through the limit of our contract. But that might be his ceiling.

Look at his 7 year career. thats about what you can expect GARBAGE! If he had any cream to rise to the top it would have happened by now.

He really only got a few games to play on a questionable Detroit roster. His cream may have risen to the top in Bruce Arians' offense with the Colts last year. There are guys in this league that begin to succeed after they understand how defenses work, and the kind of preparation it takes to succeed in the NFL.

Start 3 games in place of an injured Hoyer, throw for 2 touchdowns and 9 interceptions.

Play about as well as Kolb.

Look at Kolb's 6-7 year career and what we gave for him?

Clipboard holder by week 5, unless Levi cooperates as usual & gets him KOed before.

Seriously, WTH does this staff see in him or Hoyer...I just don't get it. :bang:

I'm being optimistic, I guess. I just feel he's got the potential to be an adequate player if he's in the right system.

His body of work is really small, and clearly Bruce Arians saw enough from him last year to make him a priority in free agency.

Can I ask, what else was available that made any sense at QB?

The cupboard was bare.

(...And I'm still hoping we draft Geno, making Stanton and Hoyer backups, but still.)

Based on?
Don't buy the hype, coaches always bring guys with them they are familiar with who can't play. Brian St Pierre cough cough :D

As Shane said, if the dude was NFL starting material he would've been given a shot by someone before now.

To be competitive...to possibly win...several better options. Campbell, Grossman to name a few. I would've took a flyer on Daniel instead & even traded for Colt McCoy.

To be fair it's hard to get a shot to rise when you're backing up Stafford and Luck.

He had no shot to rise, unless you mean the train wreck season that was the 2008 Lions which was his rookie year. The year they had Culpepper, Kitna and Orlovsky in front of him.

This doesn't mean Stanton doesn't suck, it just means he never had a legitimate shot with the likes of Stafford and Luck in front of him.

Still the rest of free agency and draft to add someone else to compete against him. Our options were never good.

If Teddy Bridgewater has another season like last season, he going to be the number 1 pick in the draft. I thought Stanton was drafted by Buffalo in the 2nd round. I am tired of being forced fed crap about how promising these back up QB are. It is time for the Cardinals to make things happen to get the fans excited again.
