Looks Like Bonner Finished As Raptor

The NBA has pushed back the start of its free agent signing period, but the extra time may not help Matt Bonner reach a deal with the Raptors.

Kenny Grant, Bonner's agent, said yesterday three other teams have called to inquire about the Red Rocket, who is a restricted free agent.

Bonner, a fan favourite, and the Raptors reportedly are not close on a potential salary figure.

"Matt has certainly made an effort to meet them, but the team has done nothing from Day 1," Grant said.

---------------------------------
Although he is a RFA , if this situation keeps going on , maybe the Suns can use the rest of their exceptions or the LLE to try and sign him. There is a possiblity that the Raptors might let him go because they drafted Villanueva

Matt Bonner is 6-10 and 240 lbs

He averaged 7.2 PPG and 3.5 RPG in 19 MPG

Ranked #6 in the NBA in FG% (.533) and #10 in 3pt % at (.424)

He seems like a big guy that would perfectly fit D'Antoni's system by spreading the floor (conidering his range goes all way to the 3 pointer)

He would be nice to have off the bench to sub both Kurt and Amare. I know its unlikely that the suns will get him, considering he is a RFA, but since the board is slow these days, I just wanted to start something new and see what you guys thought of it

any opinion?

I've liked Bonner for a long time. He isn't a very good defender, but he would fit in very well with the Suns on offense. He has a very good mid range shot and could do well playing alongside Amare and Nash.

If the Suns can find a cheap replacement for Hunter(Tractor for the minimum?), then I'd offer the MDE to Bonner.

My guess is that Skeets would be cheaper if the Suns are looking for a really tall outside shooter who can't play defense.

Skita was signed by the Wolves yesterday, I think.

Bonner is a good player, but the Suns aren't getting him. He fits other teams better, and I doubt he'll sign for the LLE, especially if there's no guarantee he'll make the rotation.

Tsikitishvilli did sign with the Wolves (probably for the minimum)

I agree with you that Suns are probably not getting him and for the LLE

But I think that he will be a good fit in this system. He is a big man that can spread the floor. He can shoot the middle range jump shot using the pick & roll with Nash or be the trailer in the fast break (ala Q) to shoot the three. Most importantly, he will give Amare some room down low

Considering we have no depth in the front court (signing Hunter should help) I can imagine him being the first big man off the bench

But like you said I doubt we get him (I think I read somewhere that he at least wants half the exception)
