They used to be fighting drunks that played music as load and fast as they could and now they go to therapy and talk about their feelings so they can collaborate and keep the name going to sell albums.

It started with the black album and Bob Rock.

Nice Chaz. I remember waiting in line for the midnight pre sale of the black album. Rushed home with my friends threw it on, lit one up, and kept skipping songs waiting for the big punch in the face. It never came. Theyve been dead to me ever since...

Bob Rock killed Metallica like Rick Rubin killed RHCP and The Cult.

Metallica should take some notes from Black Sabbath (Heaven and Hell), Iron Maiden and Judas Priest. Just because you're getting older, and getting sober, that doesn't mean you can't be heavy anymore. I've seen all 3 in the past five years, and they all kick Metallica's ass right now. I'm talking about their new music too, not just the classics. I'm stoked as heck that JP is releasing "Nostradamus" this year. There have been rumors on Blabbermouth that JP and HH are going to tour the states together. \m/

I remember the countdown posters at the record stores. I got the tape the day it came out after school. I rushed home, ran up to my room, closed the door, threw the tape into my tape player and was quickly disappointed. I think it was atound track 5 or 6 that I just yanked the tape out of the deck and threw it against the wall never to listen to it again for like 5 or 6 years....

I heard that JP and IM were gonna tour together. THAT would be sicker than JP with HH, IMO....

money, happiness, same thing that happens to every angry band after 20 years of success.

I heard the newest album will be released on rockband before it even comes out, that would be cool except after st anger, noone wants your crap.

Metallica just rolls with change. Kill em all, along with Master of puppets, Ride the lightning, etc., They played mostly in standard E tuning. As they progressed, they started to tune down and also D tune.

This gives them a different sound, while trying to stay "hip". I dont think its working either.

OT: Its weird how in the 70's alot of songwriters were using capos and now everyone wants to tune down.

I thought that the last few Slayer albums have been awesome.

Cast Down, Bitter Peace, Stain of Mind are some of my favorite Slayer tunes. But yeah Metallica pretty much sucks these days.

I always felt like the heart and soul of Metallica died in that bus crash back in '86. The band was never quite the same after the World lost Mr. Clifford Lee Burton.

I am sitting here listening to Kill 'Em All and I just keep thinking, what happened to these guys. This is a kick @ss album but just about everything they are putting out now is garbage.

They got old, a lot of Killem all is laced with man hormones and probably 10 years of material, I even think Megadeth wrote some of that album. I used to like to play loud all the time, fast and loud and now that I am older I just don't like it as much, it annoys me. I am my father, ****.

Dave Mustaine was probably 90% responsible for Kill Em All and Ride The Lightning and about 70% responsible for Master Of Puppets. If I'm not mistaken, Mustaine even has somewhat of a hand in a few songs on AJFA. Metallica's best run - scratch that - their LEGENDARY run is largely due to them riding Mustaine's music writing that they stole from him when he was booted....

At the same time, the new Megadeth album is pretty decent.

And they just picked up badass guitarist Chris Broderick, so I expect great things from them in the future.

United Abominations is a friggin GREAT album!!! The first 6 songs are off the charts and the closer is a killer. Songs 7, 9 and 10 are very strong and 8 is a good remake, but is 'meh' to me....

i will echo chaz's assessment - the black album was the last metallica disc i bought - i hated that album. the other thing i attributed their decline to was joe satriani. kirk had started hanging out with joe and taking lessons from him. i really think his guitar playing/style changed going forward and their black album was the first one it was evident on. i love satriani, but he should not be playing in metallica - i think it did a disservice to kirk and he lost some of his punch.

I like none of this music, but Megadeth gained my all-time respect for bringing in Vinnie Freakin' Colaiuta to the studio.

Yeah, major cool points for you dude.

The new Slayer Album (Christ Illusion) is absolutely awesome. If you don't have it, I can't recommend it enough. Slayer has held it's identity for the entirety of their existence and never let up.

As for Metallica, the horrid pile of crap called "Nothing Else Matters" officially negates anything good that album might have held. That album is bubble gum pop and pure crap. I won't touch anything after And Justice for All. With that in mind..

Good Day: Metallica's tour bus goes screaming off an embankment.

Perfect Day: It lands on Marylin Manson

I dunno, I thought Black was a good album. Not as good as justice, but good. Better than most of the crap out today.
