He's a prospect with a high ceiling and a low basement.
There's no reason a team shouldn't take a gamble on him, especially where the Niners got him.
Those thinking he'll fail have a very good reason to, those thinking he'll succeed have some concrete reasons to hope.
Personally, I'm a doubter, but May's contention that he wasn't used in the best way to showcase his skill set could be true.

Slower not meaning his 40 times but he looks slow. Meaning moving other than forward. Backpedal, ability to change directions and movements look really bad. Like "whoops the guy I'm suppose to cover already caught the ball and is behind me" kind of speed. Well his 40 times will give him catchup speed though. I think he is a linebacker though. He can tackle going forwards.

We'll see Archuleta was the classic case of a workout wonder that couldn't play, Mays was a much better college player admittedly on a much more talented defense.

And it wouldn't surprise me if he moves to LB in the NFL at some point he's got the size and ability to play it.

He fell for a reason.....but we needed a safety and he was the best one available. Im not excited with him but Im satisfied, kinda like Singletary and Co. When Nate Allen was chosen by philly, Balke was visibly upset.

That being said, Ronnie Lott loves this guy and wanted us to draft him but didnt think he would get out of the first. Glad he did.

LOl we're uneducated? go check the income and literacy level of the Bay Area. Maybe you should speak about yourself. I was talking about football and you had to resort to low blows in order to feel good about yourself. Sounds pretty pathetic to me.

:doi:. That's like saying you're smart because some guy in your high school class got the highest GED score in the country.

I'm sure the 50-75000 die hard Niner fans don't affect the overall status of the bay area.

I'm ignoring your blatant disregard for proper grammar to focus on what I think is the base of your argument.

First off.....are you serious?? The Rams, 49ers and Seahawks more competitive than us? I must have amnesia. I thought the Cardinals won the division two seasons in a row.

....Wait a second. You said the RAMS are more competitive than us? Way to be objective....

And to say Leinart is terrible is a huge indictment on Alex Smith, who is much worse. Even with the 49ers tailoring their entire offense to suit his style, he couldn't succeed. This was also at the expense of your best offensive threat: Frank Gore. The sooner you accept that Leinart will emerge as one of the better QBs in the NFC, the easier it will be for you to come to grips with another bride's maid season.

Moreover, if you think we aren't any more competitive than the Rams, go troll their board. You are still intimidated by us; otherwise, you wouldn't be deflecting your blatantly obvious insecurities on us. Recall that our coach can actually motivate his players without dropping his shorts.

Matt Leinart has been in the league for 4 years now. When was the last time he had more TDs than INTs?

At this point, Alex Smith is the better QB, only a homer would argue otherwise. Actually, Leinart's the worst QB in the NFC West now that Rams have drafted Sam Bradford. The 49ers are your team's worst nightmare. Our defense will destroy whatever your offense has to offer for the next few years. While our offense isn't all that great, but your defense is even worst. What did you guys give up the last 2 games? something like 100 points? rofl....:D

Im sorry, I must have missed your playoff games last season....what teams did you play?

I ask again, if you are so confident you are going to roll us up, why are you still here? I mean, I enjoy laughing at your idiotic comments, but man your insecurities are clear as day.

Leinart is better than you want to admit. I'm not gonna go into my diatribe with you, but he has really never had a chance in this offense, while Smith has had tons yet is no better than average. He's not even good when Singletary sacrifices his best players to tailor the entire offense to his needs. In addition to which, Leinart had to go against Kurt Warner, future HoF, to get the starting job. Smith couldn't beat out Sean Hill!

But after Leinart carves your defense up, I look forward to you coming here and eating crow. ;)

Never had a chance? Lienhart was supposed to be the starter last year correct? It was only due to his horrible play in the preseason that your coaches made the smart choice and went with Warner.

Lienhart has had a waayyy better offense to work with. Our O-line was ranked 32nd last year. Now I get this is like trying to argue whose the faster kid at a special olympics race, but Ill never say that "(smith will) carve your defense up"

We have a man named Gore whose willing to do that:)

The difference is that Smith never had an MVP QB to go up against for the job.

The only time Leinart had a chance was his first year behind a terrible offense and probably a worse line than you had last season. We had the WRs but the rest of the team was awful.

I think Leinart is going to perform better than anyone wants to give him credit for. Which is fine, because the Cards play better when the deck is stacked against them.

this is why trolls should think before they type. Leinart was beaten out by warner in the last ore season game of 2008 in a close battle. Then Warner took team to SB and put up phenominal numbers in his time as starter in Az. You uniformed niners fans cannot call him the worst QB in the division because he lost out to a HOF QB.

To the Cards faithful in this thread: not sure how you can make claims about Matty "carving up" the 9ers, or any NFL team until we have seen proof.

And to the 9er trolls: Since Matty has not had a legitimate opportunity to come into camp as the starter and then play a full season as starter, your claims of him being the "worst in the division" are equally stupid...

How 'bout we let the season play out and let Matty's play on the field determine his ability to perform, or not...

I never said he was the worst I just said that he didnt beat out warner, smith wouldnt have either. I also am not calling a camaro a ferrari. Lienhart has never looked GOOD. Smith has at different spans of his career.

You're...

:BIM:

If you plan on sticking around here, you'll need to acquaint yourself with our resident spelling/grammer cop...

;)

hahaha I refuse to work that hard. Besides us niner fans have to work around our California education(48th) so cut us some slack.

Really? Leinart has never looked good? Please troll.. He played very solid rookie season and put team in position to win more games and the defense let the team down. He is 7-10 as a starter and would easily be reversed if it weren't for poor d. It's not enough to call him great and not enough to call him bad.

He has also seen four or five different O-coordinators in his career as well. The jury is out , but please don't come with nonsense.

This is clearly a case of Definition incompetence!

Hey Gohard, up for a little bet?

If the Cards take the division AGAIN, you never return to this board..EVER.

If the Niners win the division, you never return to this board..EVER.

Deal?

Oh, and if by some miracle the Rams or Seahawks win it...
you never return to this board..EVER.

It's really win/win for everyone!
