What kind of presentations are you trying to make?
I work in the Corporate Theatre environment where presentations are as important, sometimes more, then audio, video and lighting.
Powerpoint is the professional standard as far as presentations go. I have friends who make a very good living just doing Powerpoint.
This isn't a testimonial to Powerpoint. I'm just curious as to the kind of presentation you want to do?
The presentation I need to do right now will be used to raise money for a nonprofit organizations, so it needs to be professional, but I don't want it to look like one of those dull PPT presentations I see at work all the time.
I've never liked Powerpoint, but maybe the newer versions are better than what the old ones were. I remember when I was in college (2000) I used a program called Astound and at the time it could do a lot more than Powerpoint could (and for about a quarter of the price).
Is Powerpoint significantly better than it was back then? I need to make quality presentations, but I want them to be visually appealing and memorable, too.
