I have heard other members of the board hint at this question from time to time, but I have not heard what, (if anything), has been responsible for the almost complete disappearance of Callais Campbell thus far this entire season. I made it a point to follow him with greater regularity during the N.O. game, and was dismayed to see that he was almost totally ineffective in getting any push whatsoever against the Saint's O'line. I saw both DD and Ta'amu working their butts off to try and force penetration, but Campbell nearly always remained at the line of scrimmage, (sometimes not even in contact with one of the O-linemen), save for the initial push at the snap. Often he simply backed away from the block to hang around and watch what was happening. I was stunned.
Has anyone heard if he is playing hurt, (not just in pain, but really hurt)?
Is there something else that is keeping him from being effective as a part of our D-line, like the scheme keeping him as a watch-dog or something like that? I don't believe that to be the case, as not only Brees, but their RB's had their way with us on Sunday. If he was the spy, he was totally ineffective. If anyone here knows anything about this, could you please give the rest of us some insight into this? He is far too important a piece of our defense to be nearly totally missing from it for three games now.
