This week’s Masters is shaping up to have three tournament days of sun and possibly one day of rain at Augusta National Golf Club, according to AccuWeather forecasts as of Tuesday night.
Wednesday includes a practice round and the annual Par 3 Tournament at Augusta National. The first round of the tournament proper is Thursday. The course received quite a bit of rain Monday, and patrons were barred from attending the course that afternoon, but Tuesday was glorious and the course began to dry out. If tournament organizers need to, they have the power to further dry the greens with the club’s SubAir System.
As of Tuesday evening, AccuWeather predicted a zero percent chance of rain for Wednesday in Augusta. Wednesday’s high temperature was predicted to be 68 degrees, and breezes should be out of the east at 7 mph with gusts up to 20 mph. It will likely be a day packed with sunshine. In other words, an ideal spring day for this part of Georgia.
As of Tuesday evening, AccuWeather was calling for a 7 percent chance of rain Thursday for the first round of the Masters, with a high of 75 degrees and winds out of the south-southwest at 7 mph. Augusta National also does a weather report of its own, and as of Tuesday afternoon the club was calling for a 60 percent chance of storms Thursday night.
Friday is a different matter, with AccuWeather predicting an 84 percent chance of rain for the second round of the tournament – that includes considerable cloudiness and occasional showers. The wind should be out of the west-northwest at 9 mph, with gusts reaching 25 mph. In Augusta National’s weather predictions, the club saw a 50 percent chance of showers through daybreak with winds of 10-15 mph and gusts reaching 20 mph.
The weekend’s final rounds should see better weather. As of Tuesday evening, AccuWeather was calling for a 9 percent chance of rain Saturday with a high of 65 for the third round, then a zero percent chance of rain with plenty of sunshine and a high of 71 for Sunday’s final round. In Augusta National’s latest prediction, there was a 20 percent chance of afternoon showers on Saturday, followed by a mostly sunny Sunday.
