Since Counsell came back it seems this team has been losing a lot more than before.

Since coming back, Craig had been using a batting stance even more exaggerated than before.

Stretching his arms so high into the air, it looked painful! Almost obsessive!

But he's looked much more comfortable recently, and his performance shows it.

I guess we'll never find out what it was all about.

I do know that Craig Counsell is not a stats guy, but he is a winner.

He works the pitcher (to the benefit of the rest of the team), he has a knack of getting on when it matters most, and there is no one more dependable with two strikes that CC.

Counsell has not batted well since his return. I would like to know what his average has been since he returned. He has left a lot of runners on base. He had 3 hits in onne game last week but has not done much other than that. Give Tracy or Hammock a shot.

Craig is 12 for his last 53 through Friday's game. That's .226.

But his batting has picked up recently!

And, we need his batting skills in the leadoff spot. The only other leadoff type hitter the D'backs have is 'Q' McCracken, and he's not about to crash the starting lineup.

The only way I can see moving Craig off 3B now is if we pick up Richie Sexton for 1B, moving Hillenbrand back to 3B, and Counsell to 2B. (Kata and Baerga in reserve, with Spivey involved in the trade.)

Counsell is hitting about .278 for the last week, .350 OBP and .444 SLG, roughly consistent with his career numbers. He is lower with RISP than in past years, however, he is by no means alone. His fielding remains much more than solid. He doesn't do stupid things very often, which is a rarity in this current infield. Have to look a little further to lay blame.

I'm not putting all the blame on him, I just think maybe when a lefty is pitching he sits and Shea goes to third and Baerga to first. Counsell has struggled a lot with runners in scoring position, but so has the entire team. I know there are a lot who did not like the Mondesi trade but I think he is going to make other players get better pitches. Just look at today. Gonzo was getting pitches he could hit because Raul was behind him.

I vehemently disagree with you here.

1) Shea followed Gonzo, so how did Raul cause a batter to see better pitches two batters ahead of him?

2) Gonzo K'd swinging in his 1st PA and had a 4 pitch BB in his 3rd PA. When in those PA's did he see better pitches?

3) If this phenomenon didn't occur with Shea hitting behind Gonzo at a 900+ OPS rate, why would anyone think it would occur with Raul hitting behind Shea or Gonzo?

My bad on Raul behind Gonzo. I had written earlier that Raul should bat behind Gonzo and then Shea follow him. My mind was spacing.
