There is so much unknown here. Is this staff enamored with the thought of Murray to Brown connection?
How much will Brown demand?
What college Wr’s does Monti believe could replace Brown other than MHJ because he might be gone when it’s our turn to pick.
Can Wilson step in as a true #2? IMO I think he can. This is the key of whether we really need Brown or not.

Bottom line we have been stuck with a tiny wr room for way too long. We need a bigger #1 wr that can win the 50/50 balls.

Also, moving Brown would force Wilson into the line up. I don’t think it’s going to happen. However, in the long run I think we could improve the wr room by moving on from Brown especially if we can get a 3rd round pick.

Do you mean Wilson?

CBS Sports has an article up with 15 proposed trade deadline deals. Cards are on it twice. I'd probably pull the trigger on both.

Chiefs acquire WR Marquise Brown

  • Chiefs get: WR Marquise Brown
  • Cardinals get: 2024 third-round pick
Patrick Mahomes has yet to shift the Chiefs offense into high gear even as Kansas City remains atop the AFC West at 5-1. Part of the issue has been a scattershot receiving corps. Brown isn't an alpha out wide, but he's a more proven deep threat than many of K.C.'s younger options. And Arizona should be motivated to sell with "Hollywood" headed for 2024 free agency.

Packers acquire TE Zach Ertz

  • Packers get: TE Zach Ertz
  • Cardinals get: 2024 sixth-round pick
Three years after reportedly inquiring about Ertz when the former Pro Bowler played for the Eagles, Green Bay has a need for an experienced safety valve in an erratic passing game featuring young QB Jordan Love. Ertz, meanwhile, would probably welcome another move while playing in rotation with younger counterpart Tre McBride on a rebuilding Arizona squad.

I have come to a conclusion on Brown. If the Cardinals decide to hold onto Kyler, you can justify giving Marquise Brown a 3 year, 60 mil contract. We run a ton of 3 WR sets. Brown can play out of the slot. Wilson can play outside and will be on a rookie contract for the duration of that deal. We likely will draft a WR in the first two rounds of the draft.

I think you can justify that. I wouldn't go more than 3 years but I could stomach the rest.

Christian Kirk got a six-year contract that voids to four. I wonder if $24 million per year is the number that actually gets it done.

Insanity.

Marquis Brown is not a #1 alpha WR. Dude barely has one 1,000 yard season.
Here are the top paid WR #1's by AAV. Brown doesn't deserve to be on this list.

It is what it is. He's probably going to have 1100 yards this year and be the top FA WR on the market.

Imo...the objective should be to keep Brown...as a slot.
Make Wilson the 2, draft a 1... then have Moore, Pascal, and a 4th round 6'3 rookie as the backups..

I’m hoping Kyler can show me Brown is a #1 receiver for this team, then we pay market value.
We could easily give Brown a contract he would be proud of... just front load the first 2 or 3 years while our #1 is on his rookie deal. First couple years could have like a 24m cap hit which smooths the ego and gives Brown cred amongst his peers, but then the salary drops the last couple years...all within around 17-18m yearly average.

It is as much about our situation as anything. And, we will have a ton of money to spend, and spending that much in FA is even worse. It is three years. Three expensive years, but three years. Also, because we are building through the draft, there will be more than enough cheap talent being brought it.

Do that and he'll be a holdout in year 3.

I'm not paying Brown $20+m per to be the 3rd receiver. That's not good cap use even in 1 and 2 are on rookie contracts. You take advantage of that to shore up other positions. Not to overpay on your number 3.

This reflects what I’m hearing. The Cards are increasingly likely to stay with Murray. The Texans’ pick will be closer to mid-round than the top. With several teams unable to win the Cards can no longer count on getting a top QB if they want one. So I’m hearing the interest in moving Brown has passed. He’s Murray’s man and that’s now very important.
