McCoy has a couple of strengths that may not get written up too often. First he’s strong at analyzing the opponent’s defense. He spots flaws and tries to exploit them. Execution is more critical to his schemes than others. Second he likes to fit his scheme to the personnel rather than the other way around.

That said there are some things he tends to do. While BA tried to throw deep to open up the game, McCoy prefers his QB to read the field from bottom to top. Sometimes he gets called the King of Dink, but in reality he likes to send receivers in layered routes, having the QB start short but free to throw deep if that’s the open receiver. Often the result reflects more of the receivers ability to get open. If the short receivers are typically open they are the targets. Also if the line is weak there may not be time to throw deep, so he’ll run multiple short routes. McCoy is a realist. He takes what the defense offers. When you hear people talk about McCoy’s complicated offense, most of that is due to the fact that McCoy likes to use many diiferent formations. He’ll run the ball even with 4 wideouts on the field. He likes to use 2 tight ends frequently, sometimes with one in the slot. Unlike BA he’s not afraid to use max protect.

When running he likes to trap block. He used the read option with Tebow. He also likes using RBs as receivers. That should make DJ very happy.

If his Denver experience hasn’t shaken him and if the Cards personnel can remember what to do in each formation, he might do well. It will be hard to stay enthused with anyone’s offense after BA. Forget the biscuit thing. The Cards can win, but it may be a little boring.

Harry's assessment gives me reason to hope for the best. A lot of lip service is given to 'exploit the defensive weakness' but it sounds like McCoy actually builds his offensive game plan around that concept.

Just what the doctor ordered, Harry.

Care to comment on a few other issues:

Receivers - I sometimes get the feeling that our wideouts are each one-trick ponies who, if you take away their primary skill, can be shut down. If true, how differently would McCoy use Fitz, Smokey, Jaron, JJ, B Williams or the big kid (Aghodosi)? Will our WR corps have a different look?

Tight Ends - Will SK try to acquire a big 'ol security blanket to help fully execute McCoy's offense? Think McCoy will "bring back the fullback?"

O-Line - Can we execute with the guys we've got (assuming all are healthy)? If not, where do we need to make changes?

I am actually more for a conservative offense. Taking big risks increases chances of turnovers and taking sacks if a play takes too long to develop or a receiver takes too long getting separation on a post or fly route. The main problem with BA's offense was the defense seemed to know when we were taking the deep shot because BA made things predictable.

If you have a mobile QB who can extend a play and an OL who can give him 3 to 4 seconds to get the ball out then take a deep shot but short to intermediate routes are what should be the focus with a QB with accuracy and a quick release.

I am by no means the student of the game that most here are, but it sounds like McCoy has a system similar to what the Patriots run - as far as the passing game anyway.

His offense will be good for Baker Mayfield. Hopefully Keim will trade up and make it happen. To me it is a waste of money to bring in a guy like Cousins for 25-30 million when Mayfield can do just as good of a job or better for 2 million.

Mayfield hasn't thrown a pass in this league yet and you're saying he can easily come in and throw for 4,000 yards and 25+ touchdowns? Well sign me up. Why isn't he the #1 overall pick?

I can see him not struggle against division rivals & play bad in the back stretch of seasons like Cousins does.

Our biggest worry this off season besides change itself is the many ,many needs on offense jelling. QB, 2 WR, TE, RB unless Johnson is 100% and not afraid. Then there is the 0-line. Aside from that we will be great!

Regardless, it's ridiculous to say a guy is going to have Cousins' level of production when he hasn't thrown a pass in the NFL, has some character issues, and is only 6'0 in the right shoes. Hell, he hasn't even played in the Senior Bowl yet.

We can argue over Cousins' win-loss record in another thread.

What level of production? Really, where? Come on, trash stats when your team is getting beat? Where is the vaunted signs of a quarterback leading his team in a division game to victory? Can you honestly tell me in the times we played Cousins that he was much better than freaking Stanton? Hell Solar, I have seen Mayfield play, the guy is a freaking lightning rod like DeShaun Watson was ( twice the man the boy Manziel is). The Redskins simply do not suck enough that Cousins can use their losing record as his excuse. Sam Bradford if he could stay healthy (which he cannot, but one would expect he could, resembling a fellow Native American in Jim Plunkett) is a better QB if you are looking to win a game. Cousins is Kevin Kolb without the concussion issue, except I would rather have Kolb than Cousins in a two minute drill

How about coming back to beat Seattle with 37 seconds on the clock this year? How about directing the biggest comeback in Redskins history?

Please feel free to tell me where all of the talent on the Redskins roster is. I’ve watched a ton of Redskins games (my dad is a diehard fan), and he’s the only one keeping them in it, unless you think Josh Doctson/Terrelle Pryor/Jamison Crowder/33 year old Vernon Davis are all-stars.

The Kolb comparison is ridiculous. He hasn’t ever thrown for double digit touchdowns in his career. I don’t think he’s thrown for more than two TDs in a game.

As far as Cousins vs. Stanton, not only did he beat us this year, his completion percentage was over 60% on average, and Drew hovers around 50%. I love Drew, but Cousins is leaps and bounds above him. I honestly feel like people aren’t watching these games, just pulling it from nowhere...

+1 on everything.

McCoy is going to play ball control, mistake free, run the ball till they stop you offense.

It think it matches what this team wants to do. The best note above is he will make his offense match his players. Look no further then the difference between running an offense with Manning, and with Oswieler in the same year. Won with both QB's at the helm, in different ways.

You are not going to hear me complaining if the Cardinals play smash-mouth football, and play great defense.

I know some people find that boring, but I sure do not.

The bottom line to me is that they win.

Harry and everyone---

I am still trying to wrap my head around McCoy as OC...which veteran FA QBs or trade targets do you think would fit McCoy's system and personality the best? Which draft pick QBs?

My guess:

UFAs: Kirk Cousins or Sam Bradford

Trade: Alex Smith or Nick Folk

Draft: Mason Rudolph or Luke Falk or Mike White

I've been on the McCoy train since BA said see ya. Wilks better not screw it up cause McCoy will be right there to take his place. The greatest thing about his O is mistake free football. BA did great but man we sure had unnecessary TOs and sacks. Are we gonna be a tad boring? Maybe but id rather be in the game the whole time instead of spotting the eagles 21 points in 7min because of biscuit ball
